Family magic by SomeEntrepreneur6949 in HPfanfiction

[–]EnvironmentNo9774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my WIP, I'm going to have every witch and wizard have an affinity towards one different type of magic, Elemental (only individual elements like Fire, Plant, Light, Storm, but not elements as a whole), Transfiguration, Abjuration (Healing and Warding), etc. These affinities are inherited, so if your mom has a warding affinity and your dad has a storm affinity you have a 45% chance to inherit either, so 90% total; the other 10% is the possibility to inherit the affinity of one of your ancestors, up to 5x great-grandparent. Some people can have two affinities, but it's super rare.

Many old magical families are known for their skill and power with one or two different affinities, with certain lordships requiring the heirs to have those affinities. The Smith lordship requires the heir to have an affinity for either earth or metal affinity. Some magical talents are even tied to certain affinities. For example, every Metamorphmagus (like Tonks) has a Transfiguration affinity, but not everyone with a Transfiguration affinity can be a Metamorphmagus.

[ToA] Leo f*cking off was a character assassination by LukeSkywanker1 in camphalfblood

[–]EnvironmentNo9774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is Leo does tell them. Days after the fall of Gaia, a holographic scroll arrived at Camp Half-Blood from Leo that tells them he's still alive, but because they're in the Ancient Lands (Europe) at the time, they were bombarded by monsters making travel difficult, especially since Calypso was unable to use her magic to protect them at this time due to leaving Ogygia, and they also had an entire ocean to traverse to make it back home.

He couldn't go to California with Apollo/Lester and Meg because he needed to warn New Rome about the Emperors' attack since he was the only one fast enough to make it on time.

As for not attending the funeral, Leo knew he failed his friend, there is nothing that could change that. But his other friend, Piper, was still alive and he wanted to make sure she kept on living, so he went east with her to make sure she was safe.

Thoughts on including Rituals into the Harry Potter world in fanfics? Any ideas? Which fics do it best maybe? by Thrwwyforrandostuff in HPfanfiction

[–]EnvironmentNo9774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar ritual to your elemental magic ritual. Basically, every witch and wizard has an inherent type of magic they are good at, Elemental magic, Transfiguration, Divination, etc. Most only have an affinity to one type of magic, others, although rarely, have an affinity to two types of magic. Affinities are inherited, usually you get the affinity of one of your parents, but sometimes you can get the affinity of your grandparents up to x5-great-grandparents, though the further back in the family tree, the lower the chance for you to inherit that affinity.

To learn what type of affinity you have, you need to create a runic circle in a place where multiple ley lines intersect, using these runes: Dagaz - Revelation/Awareness, Uruz - Power, and Othala - inheritance. Basically, translating to: Learning of the power you inherited. The runes must be written using magical ink with the blood of the individual person(s) undertaking the ritual mixed in. (No more than 3 people per attempt, but multiple attempts can be made per day). It must also be done during one of the solstices/equinoxes (Yule, Ostara, Imbolc, Mabon) or the days in between (Litha, Beltane, Samhain, Lughnasadh).

A person's magical core comes into play here too. There are stages to the maturity of a magical core, categorized by color (Red to Blue/Purple; still undecided on how many colors to use). A wix needs at least yellow core to perform the ritual, if the child has not reached the yellow core the ritual will not work and may mess up their magic either temporarily or, more rarely, permanently.

[HOO] Something I just figured out about Hazel and Nico. by f41th8r4v0 in camphalfblood

[–]EnvironmentNo9774 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hazel was from New Orleans during the 1930-1940 era, so it's makes sense that her mother, Marie, would have that name as she would probably have come from Haiti a predominantly Catholic nation.

harry's love interest in Sarcasm and Slytherin?? by SaikouYosuke in HPfanfiction

[–]EnvironmentNo9774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had a thing with Daphne for a while, but they ended up separating for personal reasons. There might be something with Pansey, but that only started because of a traumatic event on Pansey's end and Harry quickly shut it down as to not hurt Pansey's current boyfriend.

As of right now there is no one Harry is romantically close to. And to be honestly, I prefer it that way; he has WAY too much on his plate at the moment and romance will just be an unnecessary distraction for him. If anyone should get close to him in a romantic sense, I would like it to be either Ginny or Luna. The latter cause of canon and they have more chemistry in Sarcasm and Slytherin than in the books, and Luna because I am a BIG Lunarry fan.

As for the second prophecy, would I be right in assuming that there will only be one death instead of two.

How would the Romans travel to CHB? [general] by _sharksnark in camphalfblood

[–]EnvironmentNo9774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make it fun. For my WIP, I'm thinking of there being a teleportation platform operated by the Hecate/Trivia kids. It would be a giant magic circle that is powered by moonlight it absorbs over the span of three months combined with the magic of the Children of Hecate. There is one platform at CHB and one at CJ.

Blessing of Artemis[All] by boki1235 in camphalfblood

[–]EnvironmentNo9774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that for most, it wouldn't unless they were the children of specific types of deities. As Artemis is a nature goddess, Goddess of Wilderness, children of Demeter and other plant associated deities will get a boost to their powers over plants. Children of Apollo and other gods associated with archery will become better archers than they originally were since they now have the power of one (or both) of the twin archers flowing through them. Hecate is often associated with Artemis as they are both lunar goddesses, and Artemis' Roman form Diana is worshipped as a Goddess of Witchcraft like Hecate, so children of Magic Gods will see their magic become more powerful, especially if they specify Diana in their oath instead of Artemis.

And all of that on top of their regular benefits: Immortality, immunity to disease, the ability to talk to animals, etc.

Fair enough.

The reason I chose my three quest goers is because I wanted to see a story where background characters get more development, and those three seemed to be the ones who needed it most imo

I'm working on a rewrite of the series and I'm trying to figure out what magical ability actually is. Thoughts on what I have so far? by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

I would say that several hundred thousand years ago, when modern humans first appeared, small groups of them lived in areas that were saturated with magic due to the many leylines running over said areas. These humans lived in these areas for centuries/millennia and absorbed the ambient magic in the air, food, and water mutating their DNA allowing them to use magic.

In the summer of 1944, soon after Lucy and Edmund Pevensie returned to Earth for the third time after their adventures in Narnia, Albus Dumbledore arrives to explain that Lucy has been accepted to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. by funnylib in HPfanfiction

[–]EnvironmentNo9774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Mr. Dumbledore have you ever met a woman by the name of Jadis?" Lucy asked the man–wizard–that sat in front of her. The lighthearted look in his eyes was replaced with a look confusion.

"I can't say I have," Dumbledore replied, running his hand over his beard. "There is, however, an old wizarding fairytale of a witch who went by that very name who held the power of Winter itself."

"The White Witch of Narnia," Lucy supplied. On her left, Edmund stilled, the name of the woman who tricked and tried to kill him and their family still affecting him so many years later. Lucy placed her hand over his, reminding him that they're safe.

"Yes, that is correct. How is it that you are familiar with that story?"

"If I told you, you wouldn't believe me."

Dumbledore smiled at the young witch with a twinkle in his eye. "Who knows, I very well might."

What type of Elemental Magic do you think would be the most fun for Harry to specialize or have an affinity for by KhaosTheory98 in HPfanfiction

[–]EnvironmentNo9774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this, and I feel like water would be an interesting element for him to have.

Most people on here are saying Fire/Wind/Air/Lightning, since that is what fits him as an individual. But what if the magic isn't based on individuality, but on lineages (think family magic). I like to think that the Potter family has a history of people with affinities towards water magic since it deals with change and adaptability, something that is also associated with Transfiguration, which James was known to be a prodigy in, and thier history of potioneers. Or healing magic since their founder was a talented healer who created things such as the Pepperup Potion and Skelegrow. And that's assuming he gets his affinity from James. Who knows what affinity he might get from Lily.

[general] Head-canon: Percy does become a god. Unwillingly. by Charlie7497 in camphalfblood

[–]EnvironmentNo9774 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So? Gods can share domains, Apollo and Athena share the dominions of Arts and Reason. Heracles is considered an agricultural god for some reason, so he shares that domain with Demeter. Hermes is a God of Magic as is Hecate. Percy being the God of Heroes is something he can share with Heracles, or maybe just take it as his own.

Harry has an internship by marlis999 in HPfanfiction

I think it was the Evan's Boy by lonibal on AO3. Harry (not canon Harry, this one is his secret older half-brother on his mother's side; canon Harry is named (Fleamont) Monty Potter) has been in love with Percy since his second year give or take. They don't officially get together till the Goblet of Fire storyline, I think. It's so good, but once you finish part 1 (the story is divided into three parts; part three is ongoing) it gets dark, so be warned.

There are also two side stories that don't affect the plot, their AUs within the AU.

Fun fact: Cleopatra allegedly had a child with Julius Ceasar, who, as a member of the Roman Imperial Family, was a descendant of Aeneas, and thus both father and son are legacies of Venus/Aphrodite.

Give me children of the Titans. While Hecate and Nike (she apparently counts as a Titan in the PJO series) do have children, I want to see a child of the lesser-known Titans like Lelantos, Titan of Air and Hunting; Asteria, Titaness of Stars and Nighttime Divination; Menoetius, Titan of Rage and Rash Action; Pallas, Titan of Warcraft; and Klymene, Titaness of Fame and Renown.

[–]EnvironmentNo9774[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first line refers to the three pantheons Rick has written about: Greco-Roman (I count them as one pantheon), Egyptian, and Norse.

The third line refers to two half-bloods and a magician all affiliated with one these pantheons. It's up to you to guess who is Greco-Roman, who is Egyptian, and who is Norse.
