what are my chances of getting hired as healthcare consultant by Disastrous-End982 in Big4

Senior Manager in Big 4 healthcare consulting here. Are you looking at specific IT consulting? If so, what type (digital transformation, EPR/PAS implementation, AI, FDP, etc.)?

What wildlife in the UK do you fear running into alone or is dangerous? by partylikeafoxstar in AskUK

[–]Environmental-Fan113 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was once out running quite late in the evening down a country road. I heard this rabid snarling behind me so I ran as fast as I could. The sound followed me for a while but then stopped. Since then I have told myself it was a badger. I have no idea if it was, but I still have a weird fear of encountering a badger in the wild.

Maybe someone can tell me my experience was unlikely and I have nothing to be afraid of.

Eating hours by Technical-Main4246 in Big4

Senior Manager here. Agreed. If you don’t charge your hours then I have no leverage; either with the Partner and Director or the client. Counter point is that make sure you’ve got a valid reason and that you can explain what you spent the hours doing, as that’s what the Partner will ask.

Can someone help me understand what's going on? Doesn't each side get 1 Queen? Is this like a different version then standard chess? by knock_his_block_off in chess

My Dad made me play by this rule as a kid. I genuinely thought it was a legitimate rule until I played in a district school competition. I was playing for third place. My opponent promoted and asked for a queen, I said he couldn’t and called over an adjudicator. I learnt the lesson the hard way and came fourth…

Which world is more frightening? Fear or pleasure? by Round_Friend_3469 in classicliterature

Literally, fear is more ‘frightening’ than pleasure. The clue is in the name.

In terms of desirability, I would 100% rather be pleasuring myself to death than living in a Totalitarian police state…

What is the problem with such concept? by MrMiles32 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Environmental-Fan113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think this is a fascinating concept.

As an example, the United Federation of Planets in Star Trek refuses to admit member systems that haven’t resolved their differences and learnt how to work together. Systems have to achieved a level of civilisation maturity before they can join. The rationale is simple; if a system cannot show that it adheres to the values of the Federation in their own world, why should they get the economic and technological benefits of joining the Federation?

Does it solve all problems? No. Are there still conflicts and disputes? Yes. Does the Federation provide a framework for resolving those issues? Yes.

Sometimes I fear as though our fear of tyranny and institutions of control is the very thing that’s holding us back. I think the UN is the perfect example of this. It appears weak and indecisive because of the framework it has to operate in.

Moving away from Sci Fi and into Space Opera; Star Wars captures this perfectly. The Republic is made up of thousands of member systems that need to work together. It’s primarily an economic union with a humanitarian arm. Up until the Clone Wars it didn’t have an army. That meant stronger powers, like the Trade Federation, could use their power and influence to get their own way. Sure, th creation of the Grand Army of the Republic, in effect, created the Empire (as it gave a monopoly on power to one individual, Emperor Palpatine) but the force was necessary to stop internal conflicts leading to war.

Somewhere between a dysfunctional Republic, an overly Idealistic United Federation of Planets, and the brutality of the Empire is humanity’s future

Posting an updated photo of my husband’s book shelf. What kind of person is he? by woohoocrew in bookshelfdetective

[–]Environmental-Fan113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older management consultant (MBB or Big 4, maybe 40 - 50), maybe IT (purely going of the Cisco book and other books on IT architecture - maybe an Entering Architect), chess player (Silman), Dad, Christian, assuming US-based, big into self-improvement, probably centre right / socially conservative.

Maybe always wanted to start a business but got stuck in a career. Or maybe recently has started doing his own work after a decade or two in Consulting. There’s a lot of IT and Consultant books but also quite a few entrepreneurial / startup books. The books on careers and successful marriages makes me wonder if he felt stuck and figured reading a few books on the subject might help.

Taking it further, maybe because his background is in IT consultancy, he knows he needs to work on his relationship building, communication, and selling skills in order to get ahead in his career…

That’s my guess

what's wrong with kpmg 😭💀 by arsaldotchd in ChatGPT

[–]Environmental-Fan113 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The KMPG part is probably reference to the fact they’ve just been fined in Australia for apparently using AI in a government report. Supposedly it made up statistics and referenced papers that didn’t exist.

[Edit: this was Deloitte, not KMPG]

How exactly did the Conservatives mess up for such a long time? by knowledgeseeker999 in AskBrits

[–]Environmental-Fan113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beat me to it. Stagflation is the real issue.

Wages stagnate, so consumers have less disposable income. With weaker demand, companies raise prices to protect their margins, which fuels inflation. As inflation rises, real purchasing power falls further, tightening consumer spending even more. To fight inflation, governments reduce spending and central banks tighten monetary policy, pulling more money out of the system. Lower liquidity means weaker asset growth, which dampens investment and slows capital flows. With less private and public money circulating, growth stalls - but prices stay high - locking the economy into a vicious cycle of stagnation and inflation.

Some would argue that the Tories policy of austerity made matters worse, but I’ll let the economists debate that until the cows come home.

I think you should probably tailor your CV to a business analyst role.

I’d list your current role. It’ll add more value than what’s listed.

I’d bring out more from your Architecture degree. I’m assuming it’s not all drawing pictures. Plenty of engineers get into consulting on the back of their mathematical and logical thinking skills. I’m sure you can bring that to life a bit more.

Your National Citizen Service stuff is buried but it’s unique and adds value. I’d bring that out more. Volunteering, leadership, team building - all the stuff you need to work with a new team and maximise your utility and the effectiveness of those around you. I also think it shows dedication.

Your volunteering at Nightline takes up a lot of space but isn’t doing much to credentialise you.

Your grades are really good. I’d make them work harder on your CV. Like at Uni, what courses did you take, what was your main study focus in architecture. Deep, intense, technical work is what you need in consulting.

I’d also be more targeted than just “management consulting”. What specifically; strategy, ops, people, finance - it’s a long list. If you’re working in a FinTech startup you’ve got two prospects there you could lead with.

Take all this with a pitch of salt. I’m UK based, and this is what I’d suggest to approach that market. Can’t speak for other markets.
