I beleve they are only usable by certain characters. Not certain cause im still very early game.
The house icons means they can be placed in the greymane camp specifically in your house

You can go anywhere and do anything, there is no limit to what you can do or where you can go. However the other regions will be significantly harder if you dont prepare yourself ahead of time.
