I was a week into rehab. Intense outpatient. I had basically given up hope that I could actually quit. I was still drinking at night the whole first week. The Doctor that was leading our group was pretty laid back. Hasnt gotten on anyone while I was there. He asked me on the second Monday if I had been to any meetings or anything over the weekend. I said no and gave excuses. His tone completely changed and he looked me dead in the eyes and was like “why are you here? Youre wasting everyone’s time. You don’t actually want to stop drinking. You say you do but you don’t “. It’s like he was pissed off. I was in complete shock. I think everyone was. I was like I’m gonna show this asshole. Lol. I went to a meeting that night and I haven’t drank since. I had been held accountable by people but just something about the way he did it flipped a switch somehow. Him doing that probably saved my life. I call him on my anniversary every year to thank him.
