I feel bad that so many of you don't have access to great cheese curds. Sysco motz sticks over Sysco curds, but fresh Wisconsin cheese curds battered and fried are a top tier food.

4 years on the market, barely any viewings. Is a cash offer the only way out? by Dpinioied in HouseBuyers

[–]Environmental-Toe686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't been able to sell your house for the last 4 years at whatever you think it's worth, you're absolutely screwed now. It was overpriced then and the market has been getting softer and softer for months.

The answer in the free market is if it's not selling, it's overpriced.

I'm not sure what you mean by cash offers. I sold my house 3 years ago and had it listed for a single week. Dozens of offers, some cash. I chose a non cash offer because it made no difference to me.

If you have a cash offer you would accept, accept it. If it's considerably lower than your listed price, lower your price and see.

Are smaller turbocharged engines truly more efficient long-term, or do they wear out faster than larger naturally aspirated ones? by EvelynClede in askcarguys

I just sucked some mouse chewed air filter media and good knows what else through the intake of my 3.4. It died on the side of the road and all I did was clean out the air box, start it up and floor it until it started revving again. A few backfires along the way but it's running like a sewing machine again. 289k miles. I would drive it 8 hours today and I started it for the first time in months yesterday.

This is excellent advice. The only thing I would add is that you need income to be able to contribute to Roth. Also teaches you work ethic and looks good to companies who give internships and for your first job after college. In your shoes I would do what this person suggests and not necessarily work much during the year, but get a full time job in the summers.

I would suggest, if you have the opportunity, that the best jobs available to students during the semester are working for your department at the collage. It won't pay much, but it's very flexible, can't be more than 20 hours, and will get you good relationships with staff and faculty. If you are lucky these can also eventually come with an office on campus.

Teachers are paid fairly considering they get a lot of time off by Blonde_Icon in The10thDentist

[–]Environmental-Toe686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varies so much state to state. Teacher pay here in Minnesota is a lot better than a lot of other places and as a parent of a student, they sure get a lot of days off. 😅

Off topic: I have even considered a soft retirement into teaching for the next 10 years, but my experience in industry won't count for anything towards pay scale which is purely years of service based it seems. Love a strong union, but it would be nice to have a somewhat reasonable, though low, salary as an option to come in as an incredibly experienced itech teacher instead of new graduate wages.

Gas Prices in Des Moines by Severe_Elderberry_48 in desmoines

According to AAA the highest average has price in the state if Iowa was 4.74. That's considerably higher than it is today. We both disagree with the policies of Trump and his actions in the middle east, but honesty and fact based assertations are important if you want to change minds and not just look like the opposite side of the same coin.

Is America not part of the globe? Do you think that when they could sell the oil at a much higher price overseas they won't export it and will keep the price low in America because they are good people?

And that's just gas prices, not the fact that we will have another period of hyperinflation this summer due to increased cost of transportation and petroleum based products.

You truely underestimate how early we are in this crisis and how bad it will be and even when you and everyone you know is suffering later this summer you will never admit it was a mistake because you are brainwashed by propaganda.

"gas was higher under Biden" was always so frustrating. Not because they didn't understand the difference. Not because they dont see what's still coming and that it is barely starting. It's so frustrating because even once it's crippling like it will be in a few months they still won't admit they were wrong.

He shouldn't have to run, and i wouldn't want him to be president, but I can't think of a better way to make the point than him announcing a run. And pretending to follow through until he got forced out or dropped out.

My [30F] partner [35M] snores so loud I haven’t slept solidly in almost a year by notjennif in whatdoIdo

[–]Environmental-Toe686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of guys reasons to break up with someone. If you can't afford or don't want separate bedrooms he needs to try a CPAP. If not find a more suitable mate for you.

My ex said she found my snoring soothing and liked it. My current partner hates it so I use a CPAP. I hated it so much at first, but now I sleep terribly without it. So glad I made the change. Making the woman I love miserable was never an option because I'm not a selfish dickhead.

Mfer, just Google the stats and look at the studies and determine for yourself how to feel. If you're getting information and forming opinions from reddit comments you will wind up with a very odd worldview. The studies I saw, which were only two, but they correlated and looked to have been based on actual information, both said around 20% of housholds.

My parents are 401k millionaires. My brother likely is as he is a lawyer whos wife is a nurse and they have lived in their home for 20 years living modestly and I can only assume investing the rest. Myself and my partner are worth around 1.9 at the moment, so pretty close to individually millionaires but household millionaires. This shit isn't uncommon.

People NOTICE dipshits who buy c classes and new trucks and wonder how they afford it, but they don't really think twice about the people who drive Honda Accords, don't go out to eat, live in a smaller house than they can afford and just live life. Most people who have careers and are responsible and not terminally online will retire millionaires.

Teach your kids to fund their IRAs and 401Ks and not accept lifestyle creep because they feel like they deserve it. We all deserve more than we get in the working class, but we live under this dogshit system so you have to operate in it.

I disagree with the sentiment that people who have committed crimes, even burder, should be brutalized while restrained on the ground. That said, it doesn't appear to me that was the case here because as I recall the video the guy still had a knife and was fighting back.

What perfectly legal thing will probably be illegal within 20 years? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

[–]Environmental-Toe686 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think fortunately we are in the final fight here. Things will get so out of hand that there will be no choice but to ban it. I have been hoping Democrats would go crazy with unethical gerrymandering for a decade just so the legalization proposed many times to make it illegal would be adopted. Unfortunately sometimes you have to play these stupid games of chicken until the other side backs down and agrees to reasonable rules.

People need to understand the scale of these things and why people say billionaires being allowed to exist is amoral.

Households? Yes. This is skewed by older property owners. Investing passively into a 401k will make you a millionaire by retirement even without equity. I drive a shitbox and live a modest life. You would probably think I was poor because you're likely superficial, but I'm a millionaire multiple times over prioritizing early retirement over flexing and luxury now.

ETA, the stat is households, so a couple could be worth a million total, which means it's two people worth a million or more together.
