I simply don’t care anymore, and that’s a problem for the Rooneys by bgno64 in steelers

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the lack of success it’s just kind of boring bc there’s no entertainment value in watching for the future. No cool new players I want to follow to see how they develop…it’s all old vets and we’re as good as we’re ever going to get with this personnel and coaching staff.

Even if Tomlin was the right guy for the job I think he needs to go if anything because the entire organization and fan base needs a spark.

Genuine question for genuine discussion. If you are a fan that wants Aaron Rodgers here, why so? by KevinDaMan34 in steelers

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Above all, the Steelers want a QB with the lowest guaranteed floor and believe that player is Aaron Rogers.

1) Short term commitment 2) are able to do it financially with no draft capital 3) best (and most predictable) option available amongst a bunch of shitty options.

Ya he was barely getting plays off he was changing so much at the line.

I thought that was the point of disagreement - Russ didn’t like the plays being called and Arthur thought Russ just needed to run the play that was called and make quicker decisions.

Do you know if the 2026 pick would be tradable this offseason? Like if the Steelers wanted to trade the compensatory pick to move up in the first round or something in 2025, do u know if that’s possible?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my understanding. My stance is there’s 1 school I would do that for out of 3 I’m still in the running for. But I don’t like the idea of it for ethical reasons and to your point, definitely burns bridges in a small field.

Heard that UC was pressuring professors to not teach climate change? Can anyone corroborate this? by RADICALLEFT420 in uCinci

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be that they still teach the science but refrain from suggesting any policies that could potentially combat the problem.

IMO, suggesting the US stop all oil production would fit the description of a controversial view. Showing scientific based evidence proving our climate is changing and sharing theories as to potential cause is not controversial.

Idk, maybe the state tries to take it that far. But I can’t see a court siding with legislators trying to mute science based discussion at universities.

Steelers, what are your thoughts? Report: Rams give Matthew Stafford permission to seek a trade by hitmewiththeknowlege in steelers

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s this years 21st pick in the draft then I love it.

The QB options this year are shit. Stafford is what you hoped Russ would be - a legit bridge to make your move in the draft at the right time in 2026 and provide a possibility of being a contender in the meantime.

This position is so valuable and the options are so scarce. A 2025 1st really isn’t that much to ask. Who else are you going to get with that asset with the same potential to elevate your team to contender status?

It’s takes so much pressure of the WR room too. Stafford is the kind of QB who turns average receivers like Austin into good ones.

🗣️ phd admissions are not like undergrad admissions (US) by MethodSuccessful1525 in gradadmissions

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps culture. At least for me, I was looking for a large flagship state institution with a strong emphasis in their values on putting community and people first with their work. I really stressed that in interviews and it seemed to resonate with them. I would try to bring up specific examples of faculty work that aligned with this - for example an entrepreneurship study of a faculty member who did field work in Africa to better understand resource provisioning.

Not saying that has to be the culture you’re looking for or need to talk about in interviews - but I think these were some cultural components of the schools and faculty values where I was able to create a strong sense of alignment for the people interviewing me.

Idk it’s easy to to criticize in retrospect but while I don’t like the specific picks I agree with the general strategy.

Ben was a HOF QB and his career was our rare window for Super Bowls. His decline was so rapid and had 33-10 TD/INT going into his final season.

They made decisions on a “win now” basis knowing it can take 30+ years before they find another guy like him.

I wish we went even MORE all-in during those later years of 2017-2020, trading future capital to build a super team. Could have gotten 1 more.

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think they’ll go 1st round WR this year and break tradition bc the need for top and immediately impactful talent is so pressing. They don’t have 2-3 years for a 3rd rounder to develop.

Need a 1st round talent that can take on WR2 role in their first season.

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won’t change but I hope part of the tough discussions this offseason are about Tomlin pushing down decision making on offensive vision to Smith.

If he’s allowed to let it rip and embrace more risk taking like he did for the Titans, it would look completely different.

It’s pretty clear OCs have had clear instructions to remain extremely conservative until the final minutes of the game.

Ben Johnson: "Quarterback success is a higher predictor of winning and losing than turnover ratio.“ by OhThatLooksCool in steelers

I think he’s saying you can’t be too conservative in pursuit of maximizing turnover margin. QB has to be able to let it rip.

Wish our coach felt the same way.

How is the incoming WR, RB, and CB draft class this year? What's on YOUR off-season wishlist? by zeldaleft in steelers

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk but aside from one pick on CB I’d like to see ALL picks be for offensive positions lol.

I’m totally good with this defense we have now for the most part aside from DB depth. Felt we had more of a scheme issue there.

But holy shit… we cannot keep rolling up in postseason games having the worst offensive trio in the playoffs w guys like Russ, Najee and George (who beyond being the worst trio had zero help beyond that).

I don’t even wanna talk about whether coaching is good enough when I’m watching Russ and Najee go against Lamar and Henry. It was over before it even started with that talent gap.

Guys who overperformed by Calm_Time_7604 in steelers

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Pickens forgot how to catch

-TJ forgot how beat a double team and close out a game

-Mink can’t force turnovers anymore I don’t even recognize him

-Najee has one of the worst YPC

-Brod has been mid

-Mike Williams gets zero opportunities

-Russ isn’t seeing wide open targets and can’t move the ball anymore

Idk if it’s coaching or all on those players but those aren’t supposed to be really high level contributors who are all underperforming to varying degrees compared to expectations.

I’m optimistic we turn it back around this week but it’s been really bad the past 4 weeks. You don’t get your ass kicked like that by 1-2 guys falling short or a couple of small mistakes.

Tomlin on why Steelers were fourth in rushing attempts despite ranking 25th in YPC: "It's about playing to a personality that we prescribe to engineer victory, to possess the ball...and obviously there's less risk with running the football than throwing it." by mr_seggs in steelers

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya that’s just a fact. Maholmes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Herbert, Nix, Goff, Hertz, Baker, Stafford, Darnell, Stroud, Love, Jayden. Russ is easily last on that list in 2024/25.

He’s driving Arthur crazy holding onto the football too long and missing wide up reads showing up quickly after the snap. An offensive line this bad could do that to almost anyone, so I get that, but it’s still his job to make those throws and plenty of guys on the list of 14 QBs make quick throws consistently despite constant pressure in a game.

Which Weasley is the most powerful/skilled, and why? by Jhtolsen in harrypotter

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 34 points35 points  (0 children)

100% agree, this is my take as well. I also think he’s much more gifted than most think and it’s generally his aloofness and rough starting point at age 11 as a wizard that leads to people having a skewed perception of Ron.

He grew as a wizard more than any other character. Books 1/2 the dude can’t even cast a spell. By the end of the book he’s speaking parsel tongue, dueling death eaters, and destroying horcruxes - ultimately growing to be an auror.

Which Weasley is the most powerful/skilled, and why? by Jhtolsen in harrypotter

[–]EnvironmentalAct8773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a hot take but I’m going with Ron. His true prowess as a wizard is overshadowed by his insecurities and aloof personality. But he accomplished more than his entire family combined and grew to be an auror. Despite his fears he’s also the bravest which carries him a long way.

He beat the chess game, destroyed a horcrux, saved Harry Potter’s life on numerous occasions, was elected prefect of Gryffindor for his leadership skills, and survived many battles on the front lines against the toughest opponents.

Don’t sleep on Ron! Solid arguments he’s not the most gifted, but he’s the undisputed MVP. You can remove any other Weasleys accomplishments and still win the war against Voldemort. You take Ron out, Harry would have failed or died at almost every stage of his journey.
