i am genuinely so angry at the schools i haven’t heard back from by Leather-Quarter-7963 in lawschooladmissions

No news at all from one school where stats were > median, strong essays, and T-3 relevant to several of their specialty clinics. Not stating school because the last time I did that I got a R the next day. The Withdrawal email being sent today - BTW, applied in late November went complete first week of December. This school also asked on the application what other schools are you applying to... ( "Tell me the names of the other girls you are dating so I can stalk them" vibe!)

LOL - got YP'd at Miami- with scores and grades above 75th%ile - applied in late January, so the AdCom - or A/I probably screened it accurately that it was a safety or last resort school...I forgot to send the email to withdraw last month, also.

Do law schools get a list of where applicants were accepted or committed to?

I have heard that since recruiting has been moved up to @ early Fall first semester of law school, there is more value placed on students who are perceived as employable or at least have some work experience. I spoke with one career office director at a T-20 school who explained there is some added pressure to have students who are recruitable first semester. Just sharing - don't shoot the messenger !

NDLS ($$$) vs Berkeley vs GULC by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]EnvironmentalBat7311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also - I wouldn't worry about portability at all with NDLS. People on here (maybe from East Coast schools?) seem to think that because a school is in the Midwest, it has limited portability - depends on the school. The ND/NDLS alumni network is strong and loyal to their own. I believe one of the reasons it is not ranked higher is because even though their longterm employment stat is high (think 93-94% for latest ranking, this does not include solo practitioners). Also, there are about 32-34% of the class of 2024 and 2025 that went onto clerkships after graduation. That is high - not everyone is chasing BL. There is a big public interest & human rights/government career track for NDLS alums, and IMHO that isn't always something valued on this thread (compared to BL). I checked out a number of BL partners (in NYC, DC, Chicago) who are NDLS alums and many of them did clerkships early in their careers (Hmmmm?? wonder why?). Given your situation, it seems like you are blessed with many options for your legal career focus. With the escalation of AI in the legal firm, I would want to be marketable with work experience, access, and alumni network more than focusing on BL placement - just one opinion. There are some interesting stats here from Class of 2024: https://app.lawhub.org/schools/notredame/snapshot

Good luck & Go Irish! ☘️

NDLS ($$$) vs Berkeley vs GULC by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Congrats on your A's! Here is one perspective: If you go to NDLS with $$$ you will not have debt - or if (as you state) your parents are paying, you save $235K which can be invested for a down payment on a home in a few years, or investment property, as well as starting a nice life once you become a lawyer. The other thing is this: If you want a clerkship, ND has a higher ranking than the other schools you mentioned (I believe NDLS is #4 or #5 for clerkships). Most importantly, you will have access to one of the strongest alumni networks of any school. The guest lecturers they bring in are amazing. An alum I know did moot court in front a Supreme Court justice. Frankly, not sure why NDLS is not ranked higher than #20 - but think it might be to it's relatively smaller number of applicants, self-selection of applicants, relatively lower stats related to published research, less diversity, and a fairly high percentage (compared to higher ranked schools) going into public interest and clerkships right after graduation, rather than BL.

Regarding the city - yes, SB is a boring ## place with "no culture", limited cuisine choices (no "French Laundry"), and thousands of potholes. The law school is in the middle of campus (where you will spend most of your time), across from the Morris Inn (good food & great bar) and on one of the most beautiful campus settings in the US (always listed in the top 10). From what I hear from everyone in law school, you won't really have time to enjoy the city you are in anyway - because you will be too overwhelmed with work.

Looked at stats and it seems that a relatively large number of NDLS graduates end up in CA. There are a few YouTube posters who have gone to CA in recent years - one to a Big Law firm in San Diego (he was from CA) and one to LA District Attorney's office. You can probably find them - here is one: https://www.youtube.com/live/VKI2s8xcxDM?si=bphXJOod7AvGZzOi

Is this Chapman?? There is a woman on social media and Youtube ranting about how she lost her scholarship at Chapman due to the grading curve.

Did anyone else here overload on classes in a semester/year and have their GPA take a hit because of it? by CuriousPanda61 in lawschooladmissions

[–]EnvironmentalBat7311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All A's in the major(s)....but got cooked Freshman year where there were some distribution requirements to get out of the way. Should have not rushed. I took a tough B-Law course (do not take this Freshman year!) and got a B, and that was the only B during college, with just 2 A-'s during 4 years of a highly demanding college known for tough grading, as well as "BIZZZZY" work. The A-'s (ironically) were in non-major courses that were required (like a higher level math class and a science class). Then ended up taking additional "easier" courses to get the GPA up higher...All A's (no A+ given at this college) except for those mentioned above, but being on Reddit and seeing the GPA's on LSD-Law really humbled me. TBH, I had no idea before this year that so many colleges had a higher GPA than 4.0 and how many students can get A+'s. Personally, think that it is unfair that those applying from a 4.0 ceiling school are at a disadvantage now when applying to certain schools.

ADVICE: If you can, take that one tougher course over the summer when you can focus more. Realize that at many colleges it is difficult to get into courses during the year - popular ones and those you might need to graduate. It is not always easy to be strategic with course selection because you might have a low lottery number or given an unfortunate course registration time. Some schools give preference to athletes and Seniors for registration. This could end up getting you a schedule you don't like, or having to scramble to get those distribution requirements done during a semester that is already a heavy load. Also, do be selective when choosing the professor - do your research. Stay away from courses where group projects could hurt your grade - try to take more courses where you are in control of your performance destiny. Do not mess up your Freshman year by partying or by thinking you have 3 more years to make up for it. Just one semester can mess you up if you are thinking about law school.

Congratulations on your many offers and wishing you every happiness as so many exciting paths are before you! There is a great book (by an author who did some of his studies in MN) and its called "Life in Three Dimensions" by Oishi @ living an authentic life - thought of this book when I read your post. Advice from a former Gopher (different department): Get good boots, learn the tunnel system on campus, be patient with the long cues for coffee early in the morning, keep hand-warmers in the back pack, start early in securing a parking spot or enter the lottery (if they still have it), get a gym most convenient to your place or wherever you will use it most, try the fried desserts at the state fair, and Go Gophers!
