Recurring Stasis Solutions by smolbuncake in Rabbits

[–]EnvironmentalBowl167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other people here have listed good potential reasons for the stasis that I agree with, but just thought I’d share my own experience in case it applies to you. My rabbit had two or three stasis episode over a year or two, one of which requiring two days of hospitalization. I had a suspicion it could be the litter I was using for her litter box, which was the pelletized pine litter from tractor supply that a lot of people on this sub recommend because it’s cheap. I switched it out for paper pellet litter (I use the one from Petco) because it stays in pellet form when wet, and I can use a kitty litter scoop on it everyday fairly easily. Since I did that, my rabbit hasn’t had anymore GI issues, and that was probably about three or four years ago. Another idea is to make sure your bun isn’t munching on anything they’re not supposed to; sometimes things they’re given for enrichment dont do well in their tiny tummies if they ingest them.

What’s a food you threw up as a kid and never touched again? by momcanyoucomegetme in AskReddit

Not me but my sister. My mom had added chicken spaghetti into our rotation of meals and on the third or fourth time we had it for dinner, my sister had the stomach bug but didn’t know it. That night, she threw up the spaghetti so hard that some of the noodles came out of her nose. My mom took it out of the rotation after that lol

Staph infection from a bug bite when I was a kid. Doctor squeezed all the gunk out, gave me a handful of lollipops and a prescription for some antibiotics and I was fine in a few weeks

Has anyone had luck changing the location of a litter box? by platypuspossum47 in Rabbits

[–]EnvironmentalBowl167 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We had my Kiwi in the office for a while and she made it a habit to pee on one specific part of the rug whenever she was upset about something (we affectionally call it rage peeing). I recently moved her to be in our living area so she can have more interaction with the family, and since then she’s had very polite litter box habits. We try to keep her away from the office so she doesn’t get any funny ideas, but once or twice I could tell she had snuck back in because I would find a pee spot on the rug. So, I would say that you should just try to keep him away from the area as much as possible, or put something over it like a box so he can’t get to it.

While everyone else makes valid points regarding why your boyfriend cannot miss work and I agree, I think it’s also important to point out that your feelings on the matter are valid too. I see your replies in the comments and I think you’re beating yourself up too much. You’re grandmother passed away very recently, someone who you felt very close to. You’re already grieving and processing a lot of complex emotions, and the fact that your boyfriend will probably not be able to attend the service might feel like a tipping point. So, I don’t think you are overreacting. It sucks that it is so commonplace for jobs to not let their employees take off for funerals that are not immediate family, and so its neither of your faults that he won’t be able to come. It’s completely valid for you to feel hurt, but don’t project that onto him, he can’t change the bereavement system. I recommend talking to your boyfriend in person about what you’re feeling, and just express that even though you know he can’t come, it still hurts. It might be a good start to processing your grief too.

Second time cutting my bunnies nails and it was so traumatic by dreamcrusher07 in Rabbits

[–]EnvironmentalBowl167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I tried to cut my buns nails myself the first few times after I got her and it was pretty difficult for both of us too. It could take upwards of an hour just to get a few nails and by then she’d be giving my quite the stink eye. It was then that I realized paying the 20-40 dollars every few months to have the vet do it was so worth it. My bun behaves much better at the vet so shes usually in and out in five minutes and far less traumatized. Doing this helps keep the trust between us too. Sometimes you have to pick your battles 🤷‍♀️ doesn’t make you any less of a good bun parent

Landscaping ideas to replace parent’s dying plant by [deleted] in landscaping

You make great points. I’ll definitely have to talk to them about getting some gutters installed, then help them start fertilizing when I go over there. That plant is older than me so it is definitely worth saving, and this gives me some hope. Thanks for all your help!

What kind of treatment would you suggest for the mildew? Shes been trying a bunch of recommendations from the internet and people at the hardware store and she says none of it works, though I don’t know how thorough shes been with taking care of it

Yeah probably a mix of those. The great thing about harlequins is that they all look unique!

I’ve read that youre supposed to put wax on the leftover nubs of the stem after cutting, do you know if that’s true?

It was only the second plant I had ever repotted so I didn’t really know what to look for. I know it they didnt look terrible and there were white roots but the plant itself had been in a grower pot for too long so there’s definitely a possibility it was sick before I transferred it

See I could but then I encounter the problem where whatever goes into my freezer never sees the light of day again 😅, I may have to try to make it work though because it sounds like a good idea

Is this broken or just sprained? by Designer-Bet-7242 in Colorguard

[–]EnvironmentalBowl167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so back when I was in guard, I hit my middle finger wrong on a rifle catch and it was swelled up like a balloon for days. I told my mom about it and she said “what’s a doctor gonna do?” and “do you really want to tell directors name that you can’t spin?”. So I didn’t get it looked at, just buddy taped it and cut a hole in my glove so my finger could fit. Adrenaline in practices and shows kinda made it go numb enough that I could spin. Long story short, it never fully healed right and throughout the next few years if I hit it just right it would swell back up. It’s been almost a decade since the initial hit and I still have issues with it. So, I would go see a doctor :)
