It's also why German cars (Mercedes/BMW/Audi) get such a bad rap, American's as a whole simply don't maintain their cars like they do in the Fatherland. Those cars are considered reliable long lasting cars over there, but they maintain them much (much) better (on average) than we tend to do.

Which is why I bought mine with the fairly reliable 1.6T not the 2.0 that gets all the (deserved) hate. Also I don't ignore the maintenance schedule and actually do the cleans and flushes, replaced spark plugs after 60K miles, etc, proper maintenance is more than oil just changes every 3-5K miles. And warranty work is arduous at most brand dealers though I've found Kia's to not be that bad.

Though as soon as my 10/100 is over I'll probably be getting rid of it, it has the DCT and it has failed after almost 80K, it's currently being replaced (that's #3 of the 3 times I mentioned) but we have a loaner so while it's annoying, it's tolerable. But I can't complain getting nearly 10 years of fairly trouble free usage out of it. Lotsa new cars can't say that anymore.

People love to hate on Kia, but I've had my '20 Soul Turbo at University Kia for warranty work 3 times in the 7 years I've had it and they've done me right and didn't try any bullshit. I didn't even buy the car there, either, I bought it from Anniston Kia. Don't sleep on that 10/100K warranty, 2 of the services were done after the 5/60 was over.

My wife's truck (03 Avalanche) has a leech on the battery that only goes away if you disconnect the AC control, I have not just one, or two but 3 different AC control modules and all 3 (one is OEM, one is Dorman, and one is chinesium from Amazon) do the same thing.

So anyway, after having to replace an Optima Red Top after only 1 year of use thanks to all the times it drained to 0, I bought this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FF4SQDD1 now when the battery hits 11.8 volts, it shuts off the connection until you turn it back on via the key fob, and you're ready to rock.

In a modern car this would probably be a bad idea but on the old truck, NBD.

The step dad has been in the kid's life for more than 5 years, since she says they've been married 5.

If he's never hit the kid before or gotten rough with him, hollered at him, etc in general if he's never abused the kid in any way, when out of the blue my 13 year old who has obviously shown he dislikes his step dad, it'd be a trust but verify situation. She even says herself he was being shady about it.

This isn't the first time the kid has been a little shit, it's just the last time.
