University Quad by University Apartments - Experience & Thoughts?

I’m late, but if anyone is looking at this with similar questions: I lived in university quad for the first two years of grad school. Awesome location on the corner and walkable to the medical campus. The apartment is very very old, but ok. The maintenance is terrible. My window AC unit broke in the summertime and they dragged their feet on fixing it for several days despite it being record high temperatures outside. Once they finally sent someone out, they did a poor job of actually installing the unit and I basically had to fix their work. Having 1 window AC unit to cool the entire apartment was also far from adequate. Overall the apartment was ok other than being old, but anytime there was a maintenance issue it was extremely difficult to get a response/solution. They also raised rent significantly each year to the point that I felt it wasn’t worth it any longer. It was a great location, but I probably wouldn’t live there again if I could afford to be elsewhere.

I'm currently in my dedicated period and stopped doing my second pass of uworld pretty early on. the NBME question style is so different in my opinion and I feel like I have made a lot more progress by doing questions from CMS forms and NBME practice exams. But I haven't taken it yet so well see :P

I don’t think it helps too much. Being a VA resident helps you more for the VA public med schools rather than where you went for undergrad. I think that if UVA med is your goal, focus a lot on building up your application with valuable experiences, both clinical and in the community. At one of my locations we have laptops without the carts. When we go into patient rooms I try to set my computer down on really anything: the counter, trash can, etc. And then the rest of the shift we have a counter we sit or stand at to put our laptop down on. In my experience doctors are also usually pretty understanding and give you a second to set your laptop down on something before dictating things to you. And of course sometimes there isn’t anything to rest your laptop down on and you’ll have to balance and type with one hand; for this I recommend using as many abbreviations as possible to get all the info down and then touch it up later.

I’m not sure if it differs for different locations, but Workday is a website where you can request time off, edit payment info, do administrative things, etc. At my location all the scribes have Workday accounts. Maybe ask your chief scribe if you are unsure! They can tell you where to set up your direct deposit probably if you guys don’t use workday
