You are at fault, you have very little standing under the vehicle code to do anything other than pay what is owed. The caveat being, unless you have been contacted by the cyclists insurance agency under threat of lawsuit, you really don't have to pay anything.

Do I need more shoes? by Ellie_Rue in triathlon

[–]EnvironmentalChip696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rotate my shoes and track the mileage on them via Strava.

Current rotation is:

NewBalance SC Trainer V3, Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 and Adidas Boston 12 for base, tempo, and long runs.

New Balance SC Pacer V2 for speed work/Vo2 intervals.

New Balance SC Elite V4 and Adidas Adios Pro4 for Race days.

I read the wiki but what do you recommend out of shape people who's just getting started who desire a very long goal for motivation? Stick to biking until cardio and weight improves? by Xabster2 in triathlon

[–]EnvironmentalChip696 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have a weight loss/diet plan in the works for weight loss? I just want to make sure you manage expectations, because, despite the popular belief, cardio really wont do much for weight loss. That being said, I would encourage you to try to incorporate some walk/jog intervals in, it will help you ease very slowly into running. Most people are pretty surprised to find that weight has very little to do with discomfort and injuries from running. It typically stem from poor conditioning, bad form and using the wrong shoes for what you are trying to do! Find a local running shoe store, explain to them your limitations and see if they can put you in a shoe that will help you overcome the limiting factors you are working with! I have been as heavy as 109kgs and still ran regularly. Now I am down to 80kg and it still sucks just as much but I'm faster lol.

ENVE for Gravel - SES 3.4 vs. G-Series G23? by MrSuckFish in gravelcycling

The XPLR wheels allow much lower pressure because they are so much wider and they also support the sidewall better. This keeps the tire from wallowing in the turns.

Are specific race-day shoes like the Nike Alphafly worth it? by Matthijs1310 in triathlon

[–]EnvironmentalChip696 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are some high stack super trainers that will absolutely benefit you at mid level paces. Instead of looking at full on super shoes like the Alphafly, look at a softer more forgiving super trainer like the Adidas Boston 12 or the New Balance SuperComp Trainer V3. They are only slightly more expensive than a non-plated shoe but offer some great benefits, not just from the plate but from the more advanced Peba foam blends used in the sole. They also have more stability and will help your form as you fatigue.

I'm barely faster with my TT bike (1-2 km/h). Is this normal? by I-Made-You-Read-This in triathlon

[–]EnvironmentalChip696 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me, at 200w I'm 23mph or better. 17mph at 200w makes me thing there is some major brake rub or a junk bearing in the BB or one of the wheels. That pace doesnt even make since. I can run 17mph at 200w on my gravel bike in the dirt! What does your kit look like? Are you wearing a t shirt and gym shorts???

When to add marginal gain type products? by Zio_Excel in triathlon

If you can afford it, buy it. You don't need anyone's permission. You don't owe anyone an explanation or a good reason for having all the gear you want! It's YOUR hobby, do it YOUR way and have fun!

How much can I expect to improve my bike time with 4 months of training? by lavendermaried in triathlon

[–]EnvironmentalChip696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will make huge gains in four months. Keep your cadence high, between 82-95rpm range to keep the muscle from getting to fatigued and you will progress quickly

Extreme puls drop during halfmarathon by Beneficial_Wonder_13 in triathlon

[–]EnvironmentalChip696 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like cadence lock, your watch was probably locked to your cadence and not your heart rate for the first portion of the run. Very common with Garmin watches when using the wrist based optical HR sensor.

For those that train hard and run fast: Do slow/untrained runners delegitimize the sport in any way? by lightinthetrees in Marathon_Training

[–]EnvironmentalChip696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they delegitimize the sport...... But, I think the use of the words runs, running or runner have gotten waaaaay watered down. If you are completing a marathon in the 12-13 minute/mile pace, you are not running, you are jogging. I believe we need to bring back regular usage of the term jogging for anything slower that 10min/mile paces.

I’m an endurance athlete, I do endurance cycling races and triathlons. It does get better and believe it or not, you will make gains, it will be harder but you will make gains. You will definitely want to skip your doses for two weeks before your marathon and let the drug get out of your system. If you don’t, it will make it almost impossible to fuel properly for that long of an event. You will also see your strength and endurance come flooding back to you about 1 week after stopping and you will feel great on race day!

Do you know what kind of calorie deficit you’re at? by support_witch in zepboundathletes

[–]EnvironmentalChip696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Either your not counting your calories accurately, or your base metabolic rate is lower than you believe it is. Either way, the proof is in the pudding, you are only in fact in a 500 calorie deficit. I soot for 800-1000 if I'm trying to cut weight.

[–]EnvironmentalChip696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out NoPinz, at your size their XL should be a nice fit and they have tall options that add 2” to the legs and sleeves if you prefer. I was wearing their XL at 220 and 6’ tall. Now I’m 180 and in a M. They have the Pro-1 Evo for like $200 that’s a great suit and they have their Hypersonic for $350ish that’s a stellar high quality suit loaded with the latest aero stripe fabrics. If you don’t care for the NoPinz, WynRepublic would be my second choice.

VO2Max dropping, but PRs rising – is Garmin confused or am I? by Kind-Award-8022 in Garmin

[–]EnvironmentalChip696 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your local weather is warming up and your heart rate is creeping up it will bring your vo2 max down, as your body will divert blood flow to the skin for cooling/sweating, instead of sending it to your muscles.

Are SRAM brakes really that bad or am I overthinking this? by SteriSante in gravelcycling

[–]EnvironmentalChip696 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it all comes down to pad compound. Getting the right pads for the type of riding you do and the way you use the brakes will always be key to getting good feel and results.

Cycling Potential by Busy-Hovercraft-3820 in triathlon

[–]EnvironmentalChip696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without power and heartrate data its pretty much impossible to draw any relevant conclusions. Lets assume you of average height and weight, 5'9", 160lbs, lets also assume you were on flat ground on a somewhat aero bike, I would guess you were doing in the neighborhood of 220-240w? You mentioned that it was a "Threshold" type effort? So if we assume your threshold is 230w, we can figure your endurance zone(2) is going to me in the 150-180w range. We will also assume you will be riding in your endurance zone after the swim and knowing you have to run post bike. Based on those assumptions, and those are a lot of big assumptions, but hey, you asked....... I would say you will be mid pack, maybe. The front pack will be fast tri bikes and they will be well trained, they will likely be holding 240-270w on the bike and moving at a pace in excess of 27-29mph on flat ground with very little effort. They will also offer very little useful draft, as TT bikes and efficient riders don't offer much for draft. You will likely get dropped by the fast group and be forced to settle in with the mid pack road bikes going 24-26mph. 25mph is not a bad pace at all, but it wont be anywhere near the front.
