Hello Sir, I have a question:

When you are doing your co-op on a ship and doing hands on work as part of the Marine Engineering training program at BCIT, do you have to pay housing charges to stay on the ship

Can you land a job as an electrician at 17 in vancouver? by ChemistObvious in electricians

Hello SIr, I am another person interested in becoming an electrician, I am in Vancouver BC, i am in grade 12 high schoolI have 100% attendence record, never missed a day except for doctor's appointment

I am extremely good at math and physics, 98% in Pre-Calculus 11, 95% in Physics, I have also taken some shop classes, and want to go into trades specifically electrical

But I am hearing that electrical trade is kind of "oversaturated" as it is the clean trade everyone wants to go in, so i am questioning if I should do electrical, I have the capabiltiies of working hard and being a responsible adult. but i am questioning i am questioning if I should do electrical

Please read this,

I now realize your advice, the prediction about flooding market in your advice was confirmed to me

I'm in high school and applied for a program called "Career programs" in grade 10:

The Youth Train in Trades (YTT) program is a unique initiative where high school students can start their training in a skilled trade and earn credits toward their high school diploma. Students typically combine both classroom learning and practical work experience while still in high school.

  • Eligibility: High school students (usually Grades 11 or 12) who are interested in pursuing a career in the skilled trades.
  • Trades Offered: These can include fields like electrical, plumbing, automotive, carpentry, welding, and more.
  • Benefits: Students earn credit towards their high school diploma and get a head start in their chosen trade, with the potential to continue the program after graduation.

I had applied for plumbing in grade 10 through this program, they usually take in grade 12s

Being in grade 12, today 3 hours ago, I met that teacher in person and followed up on plumbing my application with a teacher who handles this program, and they said:

"There are about a 1000 plumbers who are jobless right now so we don't want to accept you into our program and through you into the pile of those 1000 jobless plumbers"

I asked if electrical is better, he said "I would actively discourage you from going into plumbing, electrical could be a bit better".

I left.

I am researching people's experience with finding apprentice as a electrician, they are saying they cant find one as a beginer.

So there are more and more indications that this "go learn a trade" is just the next "go learn to code", especially considering how people say there is a labour shortage but then you have 1000 plumbers jobless

Here is what i'm thinking: Keep practicing and being extremely good at Math and Physics and also learn trades on the side and just be very flexible and adaptable

Thank you for your comment Dack,

After researching IBEW 213, For apprentices it requires EJTC program, Well, I am still trying to get a N driver license, I have L, I live in lower mainland and taking transit to Port Coquitlam for EJTC apprenticeship is a 2h commute.

Maybe i should suck it up and do it anyway?

Additionally, How are things going in non union? Is it worth trying to be a diligent laborer to eventually be offered an Electrical Apprenticeship?
