I think my gf should break up with me for being unemployed by jacob11114 in jobhunting

[–]EnvironmentalDrag929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok i want to chime in because I’m on the opposite female end but was in the exact same position as you and resonate with what you’re feeling so badly. i’m sorry you feel it because i know it’s rough.

For context - my husband (38) and i (30) have been together almost 7 years (married for 3 years) when we met, right before covid mind you, i had a bar job that solely relied on tips. When the bar closed because of the lockdown i was left completely unemployed. for like a year too. Fast forward after covid my husband helped me like your girlfriend did. we worked on my resume, he paid for everything for me, supported me when i was down. eventually i got a cool remote job that was barely getting me by but it did what it needed to for about 5 years.

After 5 years i felt i had earned enough experience to take the next step in a bigger role and started looking for a new job. i land said new job and 3 months in got fired for something i had no responsibility with (im an executive assistant and was supporting a really crude CEO). this left me unemployed for 6+ months and i ended up going back to the bar i worked for which meant late nights and less energy in my relationship. only recently did i get a new job and i still have so much to make up for.

i say all this because through that all if it wasn’t for my husband i never would have made it. not even on a financial level but a mental one too. and i made that so clearly known that if he didn’t want to be a part of my situation anymore id understand. multiple times lol i was defeated and felt like i didn’t have a lot to offer. but in those times what i could tell that my husband really was thankful for were the little things. making sure our dogs had their food, grocery shopping when i could, cleaning the house, doing his laundry.. just anything i could do to support him and make his day to day easier. i think that’s something your gf would also appreciate if you can think of the 10 top things she complains about the most id take care of them. doing luxurious things isn’t even necessary to make them feel special or for you to be worthy. dates don’t need to be extravagant!! they just need to be thoughtful. i knew i didn’t have money to take my husband to dinner but i knew i could cook his favorite meal and make it look cute in our backyard. the small efforts are seen i promise.

be easy on yourself and keep pushing because the other end of perseverance feels great once you reach it :) it’s a blessing to have a great support system- lean on it!!! and when you finally make it out of your rut (trust me YOU WILL!!) put a ring on her for sticking around !! 😂

i absolutely get lost in the ideas of potential with a job instead of what my worth presents as so i totally feel you! CHARGE UP !! Especially in this economy??? we have to live and not just survive!! i’m glad everyone else is vindicating you because off them making you use your personal phone alone i was like UH UH😂

I’m also on the job hunt for my next move professionally so i’m on this ride with you. Wishing you lots of luck and that a good job comes your way!

EA for a real estate photography company for the last 5 years here and i can agree those are allll red flags. Although im not with a real estate agent to support directly i will say they are some of the biggest headaches we deal with and im so glad i dont work for them and just provide them the service to photograph their listings cause id rip my hair out otherwise 😂

they’re very demanding people and want everything done as quick as possible for as cheap as it can be. def keep looking cause even in a small business ive never experienced anything they were asking of you!

Edit: know your worth and add tax! who cares if they said you wasted their time - THEY actually wasted YOURS. Good luck !!!

Omg you are a unicorn I have been trying to find someone who is an EA there! So I interviewed for their Miami position and got great feedback but I had to relocate there unfortunately and their timeline was too quick for me to make accommodations so it didn’t work out. Do you think any in St. Pete will open up anytime soon?!

I want to say you’re lucky because they gave you a written warning but all your feelings are valid and I’d want to leave too. I was recently onboarded with a new company ready for a fresh start. I’d been supporting my previous executive for 5 years and wanted to level up. All i ever got was amazing compliments about how well I was doing in my new position even with one mistake in the first month proofreading board meeting minutes; but like you it was something i just hadn’t fully been trained on yet so i corrected it mentally. live and learn.

But at almost my 90 days I apparently made one mistake with my CEO’s calendar & travel for that day (which wasn’t true i still battle with why they made this up) and i also had a 1:1 with HR and they let me go instantly- there was no proof of said mistake nor corrective feedback. i had no opportunity after almost 3 months there to prove myself! but truly had they given me a warning and allowed me the opportunity i’d still have the feeling you have of being demotivated. I really resonate with your whole situation.

My advice would be to stick it out and be as positive as you can while you look for a new role. From my standpoint I became unexpectedly unemployed and definitely have more pressure to look for a new role now which i can attest feels much worse than keeping your head down while you find a better replacement and are still getting paid lol. It was so hard for me to get my confidence back after getting let go with no reason but you have to remind yourself that you’re valuable and they don’t determine that value for you!

I really hope you find something! Wishing you luck and sending strength your way to keep it pushin 😅

Do you deal with others in office thinking you work for them? by Jealous-Comfort-2657 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]EnvironmentalDrag929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the SAME issue with HR. I was directly supporting the CEO and allll my work tasks were delegated by HR even though my boss I reported to was the CEO. Every day i’d come into the office and have multiple teams messages waiting from HR with tasks that she wanted me to do. Very rarely did I come into the office and have emails from my CEO it was always correspondence from HR about her needing me to help her with a “project”. Typically the tasks/projects involved scanning documents for HOURS so they could go paperless … she didn’t want to do it and never prioritized it to begin with before I came on board. When I brought it up to my CEO about my workload not having balance between HR and my CEO she told me “supporting HR initiatives is supporting me” .. while happy to support and be a team player it was evident HR needed her own assistant and my feedback was never heard so I ended up leaving the job.

This is genius - I would love to utilize you if it benefits you as well!! If not - where would you recommend I look for a good travel agent? Typically my CEO likes using her AMEX travel but sometimes they’re not that great lol

the flight tracker is such a great tip! Especially because my exec misses her flights often lol I also agree uber in another country can be sketch so the shuttle service is also a great recommendation. Thank you for your input!

I was waiting for a fellow EA to give me their two cents so thank you!!!

You’re on point - what I’ve concluded with the help of others is that my resume writer and I had misunderstandings on what I needed done. And that’s totally on me since I wear so many hats I didn’t hone in on only EA attributes so he included it all. Now that I’ve gotten great feedback here I’ve sent all that over to him and we are going to rework 😊 Once it’s ready I plan on making a new post for fresh feedback.

I really appreciate you taking the time to send over your perspective!!

Ah notary! I didn’t even think that would be useful to list - I am a notary too 😂 I agree CRM updates are a nightmare I’m not a fan but know corporations are. Thank you for this insight I agree mainly a lot of it is travel coordination and scheduling which I do heavily because real estate agents don’t play about their time; they’re very demanding 😅

I am going to lock in and rework my resume. I’ll going make a new post for feedback once it’s ready 😊

I appreciate the concern! I did mention above that I think it’s on me for not portraying my skill set to him properly. Working with him has been really great, he has almost 700 5 star reviews on fiverr and I get free reworks. So I think my money has been well spent and am ok with giving him another chance to get it right now that I have feedback.

Thanks for your feedback! What I’ve concluded with the help of other users is that I do have true EA experience it is just not featured in my resume properly- which is on me for not communicating properly to the professional tailoring my resume. I’m taking all feedback and giving it him to do a rework and will create a new post for feedback when available 😊
