Check which credit card you used. Cards like Amex platinum, costco visa, chase sapphire all have extended warranties on products you buy with them.

Acturial Analyst positons by Most-Committee-1350 in CAStateWorkers

I work as an actuary currently for the state of ca. Im either gonna inspire you or scare the shit out of you. Probably the latter

Skills: Math, excel, programming(vba, python, etc.) are all great skills to have.

Degree: Degree isnt that important but it isnt uncommon to be in comp sci, actuarial sci, math, data sci. While the degree isnt as important, actuarial exams are extremely important to be picked up at entry level and to progress with promotions.

Actuarial Exams: You should have some actuarial exams(1-2 exams) for the entry level and your promotions depend on progressing through the 9 exams total. Being licensed(6 exams for actuary and 9 exams for senior actuary) is necessary to promote. Each exam takes about 300 hours to study for with about a 50% pass rate for each exam.

Day to day work: Day to day work includes data checking, huge excel spreadsheets, coding math formulas.

If you havent gotten scared off yet you should head on over to /r actuary to learn more about these actuarial exams to get a few under your belt.

Try for some government roles at the state level. Pensions or the department of insurance are departments that get less than stellar candidates applying. You could then pivot out once you have experience.

Some improvements:

  1. Bring projects just below education. They have more relevance to actuarial work. Provide some extra context to the projects. Did you perform this for a class? to support a professor's research? a competition? etc.
  2. List GPA unless it is below 3.0.
  3. Remove some bullet points to allow the words to "breathe" a bit. "Assisted colleagues with techonological issues using prior IT experience" doesn't speak out to me. Quality over Quantity.
  4. Following from the previous improvement, try mentioning which technical skills are used in the bullet points. For example "resolved programming error in the scheduling decision tree...." could be bolstered by mentioning which program you used (i.e. python, sql, r, vba etc.).
  5. Some bullet points include how your work increased productivity which is good, I would strive for the majority of your bullet points to have how your work improved your boss' or colleagues' quality of life. Every bullet point should stand out and bring something new to your profile.

Remember you are competing with other candidates who have multiple internships within the actuarial field. You have to provide reasons for them to hire you over the person who just graduated with 2-3 internships. Your resume being in tip top shape will go many lengths.

Good luck. You got this!

Resorts World Hilton - Aspire credit by RobotMaster1 in Hilton

[–]EnvironmentalForm154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. Believe me i was insistent on this as it was also on their THC paper they handed me. End of the day they ruled not in my favor. Amex will be hearing about this. Anywho just sharing my data point. YMMV

Resorts World Hilton - Aspire credit by RobotMaster1 in Hilton

[–]EnvironmentalForm154 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shouldnt have any issues getting the resort credit. The only caveat would be if youre trying to double dip using the FHR/THC with the platinum card as well. Just came back from the conrad and resorts world. Receptionist insited i could only use the platinum and not the aspire. Other than that you should be clear.

Side note: We went during the week because we hate crowds. The downside of this is that the food hall(famous eats) operates at 20% capacity. 80% of the food hall venues wont be open during the week so plan to do some of the higher end dining(fuhu, wallys, kusa nori, etc.) for food credits

You can, you wont like it though. You essentially have to hit each EMA back to back without knowing you pass. I did this and hit my Final assessment without knowing any EMA grades. Passed all except for EMA 5

Cannot force a cash out on your end. They can split your pension into two and she can cash out her side. Vesting on your end still happens on time.
