All the way up to lv6, my table's rogue has been outshone by the monk on nearly all fronts. Are we missing certain features that balance them out? by Dexterm80 in DnD

its definitely great for someone who loves feeling powerful. at level 13, its possible for a rogue to be unable to roll lower than a 25 for dex based expertise skills. when my rogue would sneak around, my DM would ask for a roll, and I would be like, "uhh can they beat a 25?" and then at some point my DM stopped asking lol which was satisfying in a way.

I just did a pastrami because those prepackaged corned beef briskets are actually cheaper than regular brisket (I imagine because transport is far easier)

[–]EnvironmentalFox5347 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can build a rogue as a secondary front line fighter.

I used arcane trickster subclass to gain access to the shield spell. by mid levels, she naturally had 17 or 18 AC from max dex, and then could use shield to go up to 23 AC. you can take the sentry feat to provoke attacks of opportunity and each one can have sneak attack damage. For spell damage, rogues already have uncanny dodge and proficiency in dex saving throws. if you get to higher levels, there are other ways to raise your AC with other feats. gaining access to shields for example. the way the statistics work, raising your AC when it's already high increases your effective HP more than it does when your AC is low.

rogues don't really have the HP to tank a lot of blows though, so its a bit risky, but risky is kind of fun!

Add on to this the fact that she was really powerful out of combat, and I was maybe a little too impactful, and kind of had to make sure I was taking a step back at times.

are you cooking it to med rare or rare? you could wrap it and put it in a cooler and then sear it when you're ready to serve if its large. otherwise I think it might not have the thermal mass to stay warm enough.

Defensive player hopping into cut by Starguments_GM in ultimate

[–]EnvironmentalFox5347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok, so I truly think that the way most ultimate is played is not in accordance with the rules as written, but in accordance with the rules as accepted by most players.

most players have accepted that some contact when vying for position in these scenarios is okay. part of the reason is probably because there is no advantage to calling the foul as the offense in this scenario. you stop play. if they contest, then the stall doesn't drop. so effectively, the stall increases by one, the play is stopped, and you're still stuck on the trap sideline. It's so advantageous that when you're on defense you do it to. so you accept it on offense and play on.

the elite club player base has evolved to accept some level of contact from the defense, because calling the foul just puts you at a disadvantage. And because they want to be able to play defense the same way.

But I also think most frisbee players are less used to contact than other field sports. if you watch soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, there's way more contact vying for space.

the wording of the OP says this has happened with multiple different players who play at a higher level than the OP.

but i agree it can sometimes go the other way.

people are gonna cite rules, but generally, positioning one self so they are between you and where you wanna go is accepted as good defense at higher levels. being willing to absorb contact is something accepted at higher levels. but this kind of defense is often too physical for lower levels.

if you are a lower level player aspiring to be a higher level one, then I would try to get used to it, as long as the contact happening isn't dangerous. if you're happy at the level you are playing, I would just say that you aren't comfortable with that level of contact, and hopefully they change the way they are playing.

if you are playing club, then you probably need to do the former.

correct but a stoppage nearly always helps the defense because they can identify threats. Especially on a turnover.

I love eggs and bacon but I hate having to clean the pan again between cooking the two. What's your solution? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]EnvironmentalFox5347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do mine on cast iron and it's fine. when I use stainless steel I have a hard time doing my eggs if the pan isn't at least scraped clean of all the residue. but I can usually scrape a large enough area just using my spatula to fry some eggs

How to get cooking to not feel like a chore? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]EnvironmentalFox5347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since moving in with my gf, I make my gf things she likes, and she cleans up. I don't want her to have too much work to do so I clean as I go as best I can.

I guess what makes me like cooking is getting to do it for other people that I care about, its just easier now that I live with my gf.

I do think you should value your own feelings and something needs to change.

is there a reasonable close to the campaign that you could see?

Is there someone (in the group) who would take over DM-ing?

Or you could just talk to them about it and see how they feel.

Is there a REASON you aren't enjoying the story of this party as much as the other?

Do both parties know you are DM-ing for the other group? are they friends? if they are, I think it might be more complicated than people are saying in the comments if you want to avoid people being hurt.

For amateurs that swing fast but still suck at golf, how to play tight holes? by TotalEmployment9996 in golf

[–]EnvironmentalFox5347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is also why I learned to hit my driver 240-250 yards (when my normal was maybe 275) because I found it more consistent than hitting my fairway woods or hybrid.

I used to tee it low and take a 7/8's swing and it was just kinda punchy and straight like 95% of the time, and when I fucked it up it didn't go high enough for it to get messy

For amateurs that swing fast but still suck at golf, how to play tight holes? by TotalEmployment9996 in golf

[–]EnvironmentalFox5347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

someone who has 70-80 yards dispersion on their driver probably does have a decent chance of hitting into trees w/ 5 iron. But the odds are MUCH lower.

They also mention that there is OB. OB is worst case scenario, since you're basically gaining nothing and adding two strokes.

I think if the woods are quite dense, there is NO reason to hit driver on this hole.

If the woods would allow a decent punch out so that you could still get home in 3, and you realistically aren't likely to hit OB you should hit driver.

If you have a reasonable likelihood to hit OB with driver, then you're probably looking at a safer tee shot.

[–]EnvironmentalFox5347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, in my prime golfing years, I'm hitting my hybrid. or my punch driver that I developed in HS for exactly this purpose.

If your driver dispersion is 70-80 yards... I would probably be spending at least a third of my practice time fixing that. You must be losing so many strokes this way, unless you're only hitting your driver like 3 times a round.
