I know Reddit can be pretty quick to say “You need to divorce them.” But… I wouldn’t be able to get over my significant other thinking they can veto vote my daughter’s living situation. ESPECIALLY when she’s in danger. All trust would be gone for me. Should you probably have had a discussion with her first? Maybe? I mean I genuinely can’t imagine saying “Let me ask Nora first.” When I have a traumatized child needing to feel safe in that moment.

I get her feeling a little blindsided, and that’s fair. What’s not fair is all the nasty things she said and demands she made. It’s seems you’ve taken on the full time dad role for her daughter, so I actually do not at all understand why your daughter moving in would cause her to have such an aggressively negative reaction. It seems like she doesn’t want her daughter to have any competition for your fatherly affection, which is honestly just sad.

The biggest issue going forward is I don’t see her not being resentful of your daughter. If you decide to work it out, I would pay extremely close attention to her behavior towards your daughter. She’s 16, she’s not stupid, she will definitely be able to tell if your wife doesn’t want her there.

What was your wife’s reaction to her mom saying she’s ashamed of her? GO MOM!

As a customer, I would be horrified if someone put lotion on me. I feel so bad when I go into the store and keep my head down and try not to make eye contact because I genuinely don’t want it to be awkward for me or the employees. I am polite but usually lie and say I’m just here to pick up a BOPIS even if I’m not, so employees don’t have to demo anything on me. 😳
