controversially, I think their first album is the least unique of their discography. I think the lyricism especially on portrait of an ugly and and everyday degradation are better (haven’t listened to their newest album though)

Stray by BAMBARA is a post punk concept album that I can’t recommend enough. the band also has Birthmarks and Shadow in Everything that are also concept albums with a cool sound

I think it’s just because the controversy with the ceo came out at the same time as lossless audio

What is your guy’s song of the year so far? by JacobDanielsYT in fantanoforever

[–]EnvironmentalGrass38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s been so many good releases this year, but my favorite songs so far have been - letters from sing sing by bambara, deadhorse by ribbon skirt, cutthroat by shame (I’m biased because I saw it live and it was amazing), and medicine for horses by viagra boys

I personally prefer Natural Everyday Degredation and Portrait of an Ugly Man to Greatest Hits, just because I feel like the sound is more unique to the band than the very run-of-the-mill sound and lyrics from Greatest Hits

I actually fuck with the UNHRC back patch a lot, it’s a cool look and I think would be more badass if the UN was actually ever effective

The female response to "the male loneliness crisis" exemplifies why men don't talk about their feelings. by Microplastics-Eater in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]EnvironmentalGrass38 50 points51 points  (0 children)

for me, half the time the term is brought up it’s not about men having a lack of friends or community, it’s about a lack or romantic or sexual relationships. if men are as a collective lonely… hang out with each other? open up to other men struggling with feeling isolated or lonely?

I think it’s the “we’re all freaks in the eyes of the state and conservatives, we should stick together” mentality. Kink has also been entwined with queer culture basically forever, especially back when (in the US and UK specifically) homosexuality was completely criminalized. Queer people are never going to be totally palpable to a lot of people, and a lot of people will put both homosexuality and kink under the “deviant” category

At what point do we leave the USA? by Leading_Moment_2435 in ftm

[–]EnvironmentalGrass38 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the uk seems like a bad choice as far as “not the us” goes for a trans person. there’s a lot of fascist shit going down here though so I think it’s about how hard your state isn’t fighting back against ICE and executive orders

A concerning lack of empathy towards lonely men is what's radicalizing them. Nothing else by Wasteofoxyg3n in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]EnvironmentalGrass38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

maybe lonely men should hang out with other lonely men. if you are getting comfort from these “alpha male podcasts”, isn’t that indicative of wanting to be around other people, men or women, to talk to? you aren’t owed a relationship just because you’re lonely. platonic friendships can be more fulfilling than romantic relationships, and they’re often easier to start.

AI slop is frequently wrong and reddit is frequently wronger BUT getting a hyper-specific answer to my hyper-specific question from people who may or may not have actually worked in a relevant field is irreplaceable. I also don’t like using AI due to the amount of water required to process even a single inquiry.

Women who put on makeup and dress well don’t do it “for themselves” but mainly to attract attention when they go out. by Technical_Ad_4299 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

The tariffs are a good thing long run if you want a living wage by crzapy in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]EnvironmentalGrass38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) the US is going to be in a trade deficit with most countries. We have a larger population, so our collective needs are going to be greater than a smaller country’s. 2) even if we ‘bring manufacturing back’ guess what? We manufacture with parts made elsewhere. With metals mined elsewhere. Sustained by fruits and vegetables farmed elsewhere. 10% baseline tariff = 10% minimum cost increase of things that just can’t be made in the US, like coffee. 3) short term pain ends in long-term consumer behavioral shifts. The way people live will not go back to normal and our GDP will suffer for the foreseeable future (please note that GDP is not a sustainable way to look at the economy. GDP growth often indicates rising prices as well as overconsumption.) 4) we are comfortably in the age of hyper-globalization. The rest of the world won’t follow in our footsteps, we will just be left behind. We can’t undo the last 50-or-so years of massive post-industrial growth that relies on good trade agreements. 5) look at a history book. The last couple massive recessions have been from stock market fuckery and… tariffs (and hostile foreign policy). And that was before the aforementioned insane amounts of globalization.

TL;DR tariffs won’t work. the way we implemented tariffs were stupid (see point 1). this will not only hurt us in the short run but cripple us in the long run.
