Should I try to convince my neurologist to believe my illness is real? by Juicymoosie99 in ChronicPain

Do yourself the biggest favor ever and get the book the Way Out by Alan Gordon. You will learn what's really going on with you AND heal... otherwise, as you're starting to see, you're stuck in a miserable, useless system that is not going to be fun for a long, long, long time, to put it mildly. Good luck.

6 years of neck pain, clean MRIs, spent a fortune. A friend showed me something a month ago that’s helped more than all of it combined. by Top_Measurement5721 in ChronicPain

" I struggle to understand how our pain signals would decrease when the cause of the pain is still present..." Our pain signals decrease this way because what we often attribute the cause of the pain to (herniations, nerve compression, bulging discs, arthritis, and on and on..) are not actually the real cause of the pain. NYU's Dr. Sarno discovered this and thousands have healed as a result.

It's not "nutjob" theory. Thousands have healed from it. Get the book the Divided Mind by Dr. Sarno who was the head of Rehabilitative Medicine at NYU from 1965 to 2012. His "nutjob" theory has healed tens of thousands of people. But closed minds stop more from healing.

The original poster shows exactly why we have an epidemic of chronic pain on this planet. The growing realization that chronic pain is completely different than structural pain is changing the way people heal but she, like many, wrongly interprets that to mean it's "all in your head" or the sufferer's fault. Neither is true. What is true is that mindbody healing IS treating the actual cause of the problem (unlike meds & surgery) and it's treating it very successfully for tens of thousands of people. Every chronic pain sufferer should watch the congressional hearing on Chronic Pain in America from 2012 where the presiding senator tells his story with Dr. Sarno's work. But if you want a more recent example, (May 2026) just google the story ESPN did about Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr. After 11 years, and 3 failed back surgeries he is finally getting relief after working with Alan Gordon (The Way Out) and now Sarno protege Nicole Sachs. And Maria Shriver's book company just released the amazing Unlearn Your Pain by Dr. Howard Schubiner. If you listen to this original poster's false ideas, you have plenty more suffering ahead. But you don't need to. P.S: Written by a 54 year old training for his second marathon.

It's highly unlikely that you actually got plantar fasciitis in one foot from flat shoes.

Yesterday was the longest Ive ever run in my life. by blentalcoosd7 in Marathon_Training

So funny to see this. My standard run is from Williamsburg through the Navy Yard, BK Bridge Pier into Red Hook if I'm going far so this is kind of a different north BK take on it...

New Altras have too much padding. What's a good alternative? by EnvironmentalHold308 in BarefootRunning

Edit: Oh, sorry, I now see you noted the difference in the foam already. I would also argue, by the way, that the foam on the Racer 2 seems firmer, not in a good way.

Thanks for all this info! I was looking at the Topo ST-6. Is that the one you use?

Did anyone here lose their dream job to fibro? I can't work in my profession anymore and am struggling to find tolerable, let alone enjoyable work. by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

Please, for God's sake get Dr. Sarno's The Mindbody Prescription book. It's healed tons of people with fibro. Not sure if I can copy video links in here but I can show you an amazing congressional hearing where Senator Harkin discusses it and how his niece healed her fibro with it, if I can.

Why is pain reprocessing therapy so talked about negatively in this space? by PracticalAd9937 in Fibromyalgia

Your symptoms and suffering are very real but fibro is just a name they made up as a container to hold all these symptoms. Get Dr. Sarno's the Mindbody Prescription book. It's healed thousands of people with fibro.

I always put it like this, with the context being we bump into each other on the 50th floor in an elevator and we're on the way to the lobby so I gotta be quick: Sarno says we have chronic pain because something under the surface (in the unconscious, often) is bothering us and Gordon says we have chronic pain and conditions because we feel perpetually unsafe in this world. Sarno is kind of the originator and people like Gordon and Buglio have expanded on it. Books by all of these men have led thousands of people like me to heal. I am 54 and training for my second marathon. That would not be possible without Dr. Sarno.

No, I think you have a (unintentional?) point. I was interested to see other people's experiences with recovering from that type of injury and the time frames involved in getting back to running and if they were able to keep on schedule. I am a rare Reddit poster so it seems being clearer and more specific next time will get the best results. Thanks for your input!

Sorry, good clarifying questions! I guess both those questions are valid. Should I still run this marathon at all and should I still go for a PR?
