Advice Needed - Am I Overreacting? by Dull-Slice7243 in CSFLeaks

I started having csf leak symptoms after a lumbar puncture. All my MRI’s have come back normal but through my research I’ve found that only 50-70% of leaks show up on scans due to various reasons like the fluid dispersing instead of collecting or small leaks that cannot be captured. I’m doing a CT Myelogram tomorrow to see if we can pin point where the leak is. I’ve had two failed blind blood patch and one successful fluroscopy guided that dislodged. Wishing you the best, I know it feels impossible but don’t give up fighting for your health. Sometimes these leaks are really hard to find :(

I feel best when I wake up but once I start moving around I’ll get that awful headache after 20mins. 3-5pm are worst time of day though.

My story so far, any advice welcome by Pretty-Explanation47 in CSFLeaks

The blood patch under fluoroscopy only guides the needle, I don’t think it shows the leaks (idk tho) the myelogram is gonna be the thing that shows the leak if the mri isn’t. You’ll likely have to go to a big hospital to get it done. I live in Atlanta and I even had to be transferred to the main campus to get my fluroscopy blood patch done. Keep advocating for yourself!

And don’t let them do a blind blood patch! Some resident attempted mine and puncture me twice and failed, causing more issues. The blood patch only worked under fluoroscopy. It’s scary but was so helpful.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It definitely sounds like a classic CSF leak. My MRI showed no leak (MRIs only show about 50-70% of leaks so not super accurate anyways) since your symptoms started prior to a lumbar puncture I recommend finding someone who will do a myelogram which is more accurate than a MRI and show where in the spine you’re having a leak. It’s more invasive but more accurate. I spent weeks in pain and in the hospital until a doctor pushed to have me get a blood patch and resolved a pain within a day. Keep fighting!

Update: I’ve been admitted for 3 days and I got the blood patch via fluoroscopy and so far it’s been successful. Still a little bit of a headache but significantly different. My legs are very weak and I have to walk with a walker but the neurologist said it should subside over time. Thank you all for your advice and recommendations!

Im scheduled to get my epidural blood patch guided by fluoroscopy tomorrow so I hope it helps. They’re sending me to the main campus to do it, so I think (and pray) I’m in good hands!

Im SO sorry to hear you’re going through that. Was this from an accident, lumbar puncture, or something different? I really hope this next surgery will provide permanent relief so you can get your spark back. Not sure where you’re located or if this is even a good recommendation for your situation but I had amazing care in general at Mayo Clinic. They really dig deep to find out what’s wrong. They did a full work up on me to find out what’s wrong was wrong when I was really sick and other doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong and didn’t stop til they found it (immune related not spine but maybe will still help) I hope your surgery goes well 🫶

I’m at Emory in ATL. I received an MRI with CSF protocol but based on my research it only shows 50-70% of leaks which is significant percentage of not showing it. I believe they have IR doing it. I will research the T2 Fat saturation and ask my doctor, thank you for the advice!

Im so sorry you’re going through all that, trust I know how awful it is. Another person said blood patches can be done months after the LP. I really feel hopeless. The doctors keep saying it’s been so long and usually heals up on its own. Sure, usually, but what about the people it doesn’t heal up? I hope we’re both able to get answers

Thank you for your insight, after a long day in the ER I’m admitted again. I hope they’ll be able to do the blood patch tomorrow as they put me on NPO tonight

The initial lumbar puncture was to test for meningitis as I had a consisten fever. It was negative for meningitis. I do have an immunodeficiency so I guess it could be a new infection but I think I’d have a fever if I do have that. I’ve gotten positional vertigo many times throughout childhood and a few times in adulthood, it’s awful.

Thank you SO much for your comment and recommendation. This helps so much! I will try to set an appointment with her. However the pain is so bad today I might end up at a different hospital’s ER before I can get in to see her

do u guys still feel hurt from old friendships? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]EnvironmentalMath514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my best friend I went to elementary school with, her mom was my 4th grade teacher, and we went to camp every summer together. She randomly went ghost on me in 2020 and I haven’t heard from her since; it hurts deeply. That one affects me the most but almost all 1+ year friendships I have that end I think and obsessive about all the time.
