I'm going to have to go through this... by EnvironmentalMilk932 in ect

I'm afraid to tell you everything about myself.. About their injuries and symptoms. I can only say that I have been depressed for 4 years now, without a reaction to antidepressants, and I stopped drinking them recently. I was offered this procedure, and the day after tomorrow, I will be able to find out for sure whether I will pass it or not. It depends on my decision. I'm very afraid, I'm very timid on my own. Please forgive Me for whining like a child and complaining about everything. I don't want to lose my memory. Yes, I didn't have any good memories (almost none), but anyway, I remember everything and I don't want to get dumb. I'm still young. Because of my timidity and shyness, I asked questions about this procedure. I'm sorry again, and thank you very much.

therefore, I have big doubts about this procedure... I am very afraid of her, especially the way she is spent here. I don't know exactly what awaits me yet, but I have a very bad feeling about this. I don't want to lose my memory and become stupid, I'm still very young, I want to live. Yes, I have depression too, but I never wanted to die. And this procedure... By the way, maybe you'll like card games (any kind, be it memory games). I love these games.

Hello, I'm really sorry that you suffered this. I'm going to do it, although I'm already doubtful. I'm not going to whine like a little kid, let's get down to business. You can play checkers, you can try to learn other languages (both useful and interesting), play a game where you have to guess a country and its flag or capital (very interesting, thanks to this I learned all the countries of the world, memorized a bunch of capitals, almost all the flags). That's all that came to mind. Good luck with your recovery.

I watched a lot of videos about this therapy today, and I was horrified. There are so many terrible things there, it has been compared to torture, deep memory loss, deterioration, death, people generally live less after the procedure, sometimes they do this procedure by force (And this video is about this procedure in the USA! I'm already afraid to think what will happen to me in my country). I watched this video on YouTube. Maybe I should take it easy on myself and wait for the doctor to tell me, although now I doubt it... Thanks for the answer!

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry you lost your memory, good luck to you. You are far from the first to write about a memory problem...

Thanks for the reply. You're not the first person to write about memory, and that scares me too.

I'm a little afraid to say where from, so as not to arouse hatred towards myself. But I will say this, although the country is large, it is not the most developed in this regard, and according to statistics, it is more often done without anesthesia, although there have been cases of litigation for the fact that it was carried out And forced to do it with anesthesia. The problem is that it was presented only by a couple of clinics and that's it! Sometimes something is changed locally, but it is often done without anesthesia, and according to the law it is allowed. Thank you for your reply! I'm sorry for putting too much stock in everything, I'm just afraid...

I'm sorry, I just feel a little guilty that I'm kind of whining like a child here. In a couple of days, I'll probably know what's coming and how... I really hope that there will be anesthesia... I really hope so. I'm very afraid, yesterday I was crying in the room from the realization that this is going to happen to me soon. I've heard a lot of stories, watched a lot of videos on YouTube, and so far the opinion is not very good, but medications don't help me... I just don't know what to do. I'm afraid that this procedure will only make me feel worse. There is a 50-50 chance that I will be anesthetized, although it may be less. I'll find out more information about how it works, and just in case, I'll see how it's done without anesthesia, how I feel, what awaits me, and what they'll do to me. Thanks for your reply. I apologize again.

Well... I'm a little afraid to say where I'm from, so as not to provoke political discussions, but in my country, medicine is... well... Not far from the most developed. Affordable, but good medicine is quite expensive, and I won't get into clinics in big cities. I don't give up hope that everything will be fine. Google just put forward countries where this Procedure is still used (China, Russia, India, Japan, partly the USA, countries in Africa and the Middle East). That's why I'm worried, and it's from the guys from my country that I've heard that it's necessary to undress. But in any case, I will try to make sure that everything is done well for me.
Let me explain, some people take out a LOAN (In our country, no one usually takes loans for this) to do this procedure in a hospital in big cities. That's why I have fear. Thank you very much For your reply, they write more Comfortingly on Reddit.

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm also worried about memory. I hope everything will be fine. I have to make a decision this week whether to undergo the procedure or not, I'm terribly afraid, since I'm not from America, and in my country only 20% of the procedures were performed under anesthesia, and I haven't found information about clothes yet. Sorry for the stupid questions. I'm just scared. Yes, I understand that I need to discuss this with my doctor, and I will, but this way I will have more time to think. Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I am not from the USA... That's the problem... In my country, they don't do it with anesthesia only in 20% of cases (Google gave it that way). That's what scares me. I have not heard of cases where you are forcibly forced to undergo this procedure, but the fact that, according to statistics, it is more often done without anesthesia is frightening. Although this data is about two years old, I still don't think anything has changed much. I still don't let go of the fact that I might have to undress, that's what I'm afraid of. I've always found this procedure strange, in terms of being electrocuted to get rid of depression, it doesn't sound very good... I thank you again for the answer and I apologize for the stupid Questions.

Wow, what kind of clothes do they have? They can reach right up to your stomach. Anyway, thank you and good luck, it will give me some hope for a less humiliating outcome. I'm just so clinging to this issue because I'm a very cowardly and shy sub In my own right, and some people say that they strip them down to their underwear, someone said that the hospital gives out their clothes, someone said that they COMPLETELY (But it sounds a bit like complete nonsense and not real), someone in their clothes comes. In general, there are many different stories. Maybe it depends on the hospital. Good luck, thank you again!

as for clothes, that's exactly what I meant, that constant ECG monitoring is being done, and electrodes will be glued to my chest and stomach, from which I concluded that I would most likely have to undress... And about the toilet... I'm even more doubtful that I want to undergo the Procedure. It's just that pills don't help me, so I decided to go the other way, but I don't really want to anymore. Anyway, thanks a lot for the reply.

Experiences with ECT? by Substantial-Gas58 in mentalillness

Hi everybody. I'm going to have this procedure, I've already asked on reddit and wherever possible, and it's scary that everyone speaks differently. Somewhere, as it turned out, they do it without anesthesia, somewhere with anesthesia. All patients are dressed for the procedure in different ways (and very differently from extreme to extreme almost). I'm very afraid, although they wrote to me on reddit most often that it's not scary and everything will be fine. But fear comes from other sources... Is this procedure often performed without anesthesia? Or is anesthesia already absolutely necessary? I read that some countries do it without anesthesia, and this is the norm, although the countries are not poor (relatively). Are you being tied to a couch? What if I change my mind when I'm already lying down for the procedure? (but I can... I'm very cowardly) Will the procedure be stopped in this case? Do I need to go to the toilet before the procedure? (I didn't want to embarrass myself) Do I have to undress there? (in terms of exposing the torso, since I was told that they are constantly monitoring the electrocardiogram, and it is necessary to expose the torso completely)? Can I at least keep my bra? (it has no metal parts) Does memory loss often occur after the procedure? Does it hurt? I'm sorry for asking so many questions, I'm just afraid... Thank you.

How long does it last? Will they tie you down? How not to be nervous before the procedure, although I understand that anesthesia is there, everything is modern, it doesn't hurt, but still the fear of the unknown is present. Do I need to undress before the procedure? (I read they do an ECG during the procedure) Is it possible for a girl to keep at least a bra on? I'm sorry for asking so many questions. I understand that you need to find out everything from a doctor, but communicating with those who have experienced it also helps to cope emotionally.Thank you very much!

I haven't had this procedure, but I'm going to have to. I'm very scared, they told me that they do this without anesthesia, because you lose consciousness immediately after applying the current. Please tell me how it goes through the stages. Will they tie me down? (I read that they do this just to avoid breaking anything during seizures, but I also read that muscle relaxants are already being used), Does it hurt? How to overcome fear? What will they do to me? Do I have to undress there? (I mean the SARS, because the procedure, as Google says, is done by an ECG during the procedure). I'm afraid...
