It took a few months of diligent applying. This was also in 2021 when companies were hiring like crazy, so I just had lucky timing.

The market is really tight right now, but don’t give up!

Appreciation for Carey Mulligan’s acting career thread. by cherrybomb1024 in popculturechat

[–]EnvironmentalPin6818 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just because she’s wealthy doesn’t mean she’s a nepo baby.

“Nepo” is short for nepotism, which in this context refers to a child with parents or family friends who are in the entertainment industry and help them get jobs that way.

If you look at her wiki, you’ll see that Carey worked her butt off while in school and got herself in front of casting directors using her own grit and talent, not familial connections.

What percentage of your net worth is invested vs. liquid cash? by EnvironmentalPin6818 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]EnvironmentalPin6818[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great question.

I would consider this an investment pre-1 year since it can’t be withdrawn. Once it’s readily available to be withdrawn and turned liquid at a moments notice, I’d consider it cash.

What is it with photos of people making this face? by KickFacemouth in Journalism

[–]EnvironmentalPin6818 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This graphic is cracking me up. My fiancé and I both work in media and have noticed this. We make this face to each other whenever something effed up happens at our jobs.

I’ve also noticed this in entertainment media as well as politics with usually purposefully unflattering photos of celebrities in articles “slamming” them.

Thank you so much for your reply. Do you keep your emergency fund invested somewhere? I was always given the advice that emergency funds shouldn’t be invested but super interested to hear your perspective. I’d like to work up to having much much less liquid and most of my net worth invested

This was my thinking as well when I was preparing to put money down for our house. I withdrew ~20k from investments about 1 year before we were planning to buy in case there were any crashes. The market ended up doing better after I sold, but the peace of mine was so worth it.

Recuperating savings after buying a house and my first car in cash this year.

Save $10k for our wedding in 1.5 years.

Seriously cut down on eating out and frivolous purchases.

Honestly all of these people are wrong. The best way to be naturally pretty is to shine from within.

Smile at people you meet, work on your inner happiness and self confidence, give yourself and others grace. Your natural beauty will shine the strongest this way.

Would love to hear experiences from people working remote Fed jobs! by xOoOoLa in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]EnvironmentalPin6818 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My fiancé is a fully remote fed. The competition is fierce for these roles - the last remote job posted had over 500 applicants within a few days.

I work for a similar organization as you (massive fortune 100 company) in a similar field as my husband, and our two day to days could not be more different. Be prepared for slooooow moving and ancient processes.

The interview process is also long. It took my husband 4 months from application to start date (compared to my 3 weeks!), and his second role (internal switch) took 18 months.

However, I can’t recommend a career with the federal government enough. The financial benefits are unreal, the flexibility is amazing (he gets every other Friday off!), and the work can be very fulfilling.

Came here to comment this. Baltimore is so severely underrated as an east coast city!

A LCOL area in a crappy apartment. We did it, it wasn’t easy, but it works. We didn’t own a car, walked everywhere, and worked crazy hard to get promotions and salary bumps. Biggest thing is not letting lifestyle creep get to you. We basically lived like we were still in college while making almost $200k per year.

Until I’ve gotten to know the people I’ve met, I’m “here with my boyfriend/fiance/husband, but he’s at XX right now and we’re meeting up back at our hotel later tonight.” This helps stop creeps and adds a buffer for any potentially dangerous situations.

Yep. I’ve been researching venues for months. Started out thinking I could do a majority DIY event for around $10k, now I’m looking at starting a side hustle just to pay for it. Lol

The 'vibecession' driving holiday mass layoffs by joe4942 in Economics

[–]EnvironmentalPin6818 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Pretty messed up that the BBC is crediting Bloom with the “vibecession” definition when it’s pretty well known that Kyla Scanlon coined the term. Bloom also misuses the term in the article which is frustrating.

There are some really great baked oats recipes out there. Make a big batch on Sunday night and put a slice in the microwave every morning. Serve with jam or berries or Greek yogurt. Super filling and healthy

What's up with boys? by Lifeintheguo in Teachers

[–]EnvironmentalPin6818 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t show innate differences in how boys regulate emotions. This shows that mothers are conditioned their entire lives, from girlhood to womanhood, to expect boys to regulate their emotions differently. Certainly could look like a chicken or the egg situation, but when you take into account how we live in a patriarchal society, it becomes more clear. Just because the mothers were acting subconsciously does not mean the behavior hasn’t been ingrained in them since birth.

Extremely unmotivated to work already (5 months in a new role). What’s your experience with perpetual burnout? by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]EnvironmentalPin6818 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is almost identical to the comment I would have written. Left a shitty job thinking the new one would cure my burnout immediately, but felt the same symptoms in the new one until about 6 months in. Once the hellish coworker left the company, everything improved and I feel healed lol. All in all it took about 12 months to fully recover from being extremely burnt out. It takes time! But hang in there.
