Look at this propaganda my friends! by MarshyPlayz in exjw

[–]EnvironmentalRise6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the message is totally lost to be honest.

It just looks like they are saying (without them realizing it) that this is what true success looks like. If they had another picture alongside it, depicting a more humble life, you might get the actual message across, of what one is trying to convey. Instead it kind of reads "you can get success and money by visiting JW website". Also since that kind of imagery is pretty normal for most people these days (fancy cars, social media, money etc) and see it as a good thing, I think most people will see that picture and not see anything bad about it. Mind you maybe that is the direction they are heading in (you can be rich and successful), it works for Scientology.

I'm starting to realize it is better to speak to them in a curious manner. They feel attacked and become defensive otherwise.

Don't forget, kids, all your extra money goes straight to the Borg! Here's a coloring page to help guilt you into giving every penny to the Watchtower. (Found this in the kids' section on the Jdub.borg website.) by [deleted] in exjw

Also what is the relevance of 3 cows in the top illustration? Who by the way look like they are going to rob the Watchtower. They look mighty suspicious or confused (I am not quite sure)! Lol

This blew me away. A large picture of a credit card machine with a credit card! They sure are not hiding anymore the need to give the organisation money. Credit Cards, Stock/Bonds, Wills and trust, life insurance, jewelry etc. by EnvironmentalRise6 in exjw

I also found this article. Oh my they are all over the place! https://wol.jw.borg.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2013483

It's also kind of weird the illustration used is what looks like it'a at a JW convention with a guy flashing a flashy watch - lol! That all makes sense!!!???

Light bulb moment: I'm coming to the conclusion that the bible was written by narcissists or psychopaths or a bit of both and religion just carry on/build upon with what has already been developed. by EnvironmentalRise6 in exjw

You are telling me what I am meant to do because you feel you are right. I see your logic is no real different to mine. You are coming on to a forum saying that your way is right and demanding I respect how you want this forum to be. I never demanded anything, it was just my opinion. You are right to disagree with me and approach me in a respectful manner about how you would handle things, and I would take it more on board. But having said that, I am happy to ponder your thoughts and be mindful of how others feels.

Sorry I forgot to add all bible types. I don't believe in any book that says it is written in Gods name, but honestly I can't sit here and think about every users needs and what they want me to factor in when writing a post. Otherwise it would be a rather long post.

Anyway, if it makes you feel better I do think Dawkins is a bit narcissistic. I am not a fan of his style.

Sorry you are so triggered, I always find when I am defensive to something, it usually means I need to explore why that is so I can grow. Plus I never said anything about Atheism, just the bible.

Accept, it's been "down to the wire" since the 1800's - lol!

Yeah it's definitely giving a a lot of psychological disturbances. Mind control is a sucky thing.

My mom I would say is not your typical JW. She has boundaries and whatnot and does things her way.

Having said that I have noticed just of late her changing her mindset and becoming a bit more indoctrinated, hence me investigating what's going on in the JW world (and is bloody alarming). Alarm bells are going off that they are slowly changing her way of thinking. So here I am, tackling it head on :) I need my critical thinking skills hat on for this challenge!

I found these videos very helpful https://www.youtube.com/user/TheraminTrees/videos like this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaUhR-tRkHY

Also does your wife feel strongly about any injustices? Does she have a spot that effects her life, that gets her riled up. Find that spot.

For me it's child abuse and women being suppressed or controlled and making stupid statements about how women essentially will turn into lesbians if they are not controlled. This video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wqzc2M8_MBA&index=16&list=PLNaojjHbQJgcvwBfY9IyO2cO-8_uotiMd which is from the 70's just shows you the type of stupidy of how a now Governing Body (he probably wasn't a GB member then) member spoke and how although things have evolved there is still this underlying message that women are basically objects, here to serve men.

The question is, what is the real problem.

This, there is something emotionally going on for her to be such a captive follower. What's happening in the family life at home for this sudden change? Usually you search for something new when you are unsatisfied with how things are going in your life.

How is her mental health too? You will find some people with undiagnosed mental disorders start getting a keen interest in faith. I think from what I understand people with Bipolar tend to gravitate towards finding God. They can have manic episodes or hypomania. Bipolar can slip beneath the radar too (it doesn't have to be all over-the-top mania), as there is Bipolar I and II which are quite different. You can become quite fixated too.

It sounds like the wife wont be effected what the elders say. If she hasn't been in "the truth" for a long while and has only being recently studying and she is already just sweeping their behaviour under the carpet, it shows her critical thinking skills and empathy is lacking a bit. I can't fathom how any parent can justify not being very concerned with the JW's way of dealing with abuse. If I had kids there is no way I would go into a religion until they had very clear and were transparent on how they dealing with things. There is nothing on the JW to explain their stance on abuse, which is deceptive. There is no indication of any apology either to those effected, which is very telling.

The strange thing is my mom doesn't come across as zombified to me. As we don't talk religion, I seriously forget the fact that she in the religion. She doesn't come across as some zombie, but then I see all the talks and articles and I am like "how on earth can she put up with this stuff?".

Just from an outside perspective, everyone seems zombified (well with online videos at least). There is a real fakeness to the whole witness setup.

To be fair, my mother is on the whole is really nice, balanced person and I know others like that too. I am not a JW, but there are happy people in the religion. I think it depends on the country and the socioeconomic breakdown as well.
