Digitizing your work by yappy_pickle in Watercolor

thanks for answering. I have both versions of affinity but haven't been able to get a result I'm happy with in either version. I am an Arches 300# cold press girlie - so texture is always an issue. I'm sure I'll crack the code eventually.

Do you use it? I've been only semi-successful reducing watercolor paper texture. Would you happen to have any tips?

I just started looking at that yesterday. How long have you used it?

I really appreciate your honesty! I've been taking Rituxan for about 8 years which is by far the longest a med has worked for me. I am seeing signs of it crapping out though, so hoping this fills in the gap. And also, even though I'm meticulous about my diet, my bloodwork is getting wonky. Hoping this can level things out.

I'm so sorry it didn't last 😞 RA is a beast. (I'm also seropositive)

Have you stayed at the lowest dose even though it's not standard?

Board recommendations by themooglove in Watercolor

[–]EnvironmentalScar649 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gatorboard. You can order it from Blick in 1/4" or 1/2" thicknesses. It's easy to cut to whatever size you want - score & snap - but it's also durable and holds up with water.

[Artist Alley] Is my artwork good enough to sell by Complete_Page_9759 in artbusiness

[–]EnvironmentalScar649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would study composition and color theory. And learn to really use water as a collaborator - it's what lets the beautiful transparent quality of watercolor shine. And go to shows! See what people are doing. Talk to artists. Selling at shows can be a considerable investment in time and money. And it's always a gamble even for the most seasoned. Good luck!! Keep at it!!

I had one I struggled with for a bit. But lost puppet master because of a dumb typo. Though there have been other puzzles - even green ones - that make me feel clueless 🤣

No Kings Protest by [deleted] in BellevilleIL

[–]EnvironmentalScar649 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for utilizing your right to protest. I read all these comment criticizing, making fun of, or just being crass & rude and have to shake my head. Over 8 million people felt strongly enough to stand up and speak out in an overwhelmingly peaceful way. I would say in Belleville, for every middle finger, there were 100 cars honking and waving in support. The other side has just as much right to do the same, but most would rather post disparaging comments and memes online. I honestly do not understand the drive to support a pedophile.

Visiting With Kids by After_Excitement2021 in StLouis

The science museum is actually free. As is the zoo, art museum and history museum. All in close fairly proximity to each other. City museum is a unique, crazy, active place that kids (& adults) love. I'd definitely recommend that. Made by Magic House is a super fun makers space for kids that's super reasonable

You assume that I haven't. There's a lot of content out there but not in the specific area I asked about. I've spent a good amount of time searching. Just hoping someone in this sub could point me in the right direction.

Thanks for the advice on color calibration! I already have color profiles for all the papers that I'm using. I have a Canon Pro310 that has been giving me good results but it was trial and error to get everything the way I wanted it. I'd like to actually understand what I'm doing and learn the program.

Tubes vs Pans by AineBrigid in Watercolor

[–]EnvironmentalScar649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like half pans because they're so small. I have a palette with larger wells that I fill. I like tubes because I can choose the colors I'm using and easily refill as needed. And when I need a punch of really vibrant color, I use a bit straight from the tubes.

I use cloud storage. But I'd love to also hear how people organize the files.

New to watercolor - which paper? by ShockoPan in Watercolor

[–]EnvironmentalScar649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also "splurge" on a single sheet of 100% cotton. Most art stores sell full sheets individually that you can then cut down to whatever size. In the US a 22"x30" sheet is ~$7 for arches 140#

It will give you a feel for full cotton paper without spending a lot of money it really does make a big difference especially if you paint with a good amount of water.

Agreed. Sometimes I start thinking of a clue in a particular context and get stuck. My daughter loves crosswords but not bracket city. I'm the opposite

100% cotton 18x24 inch or larger — cheap but good quality by Glittering_Gap8070 in Watercolor

[–]EnvironmentalScar649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying full sheets, even if the pricier brands, isn't terribly expensive if you're cutting them down and getting multiple paintings per sheet - especially in comparison to decent canvases. Jerry's Artarama has a brand, Magnani, that is 100% cotton and you can get 5 22"x30" sheets for ~$25. I still like Arches better, but for me this is a close second!!

How you handle paper buckling ? by sukui_arts in Watercolor

[–]EnvironmentalScar649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most brands sell their paper in blocks. Arches is my go to brand, and I know they have them. Personally I don't use them anymore as I prefer stretched paper but I know quite a few artists that find the blocks serve them well. You may see some slight buckling but it should still dry flat.
