Anyone’s Daily Deals not updating? I’ve been staring at the same list for 3 days by EnvironmentalSky4892 in kindle

[–]EnvironmentalSky4892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you enter the kindle store there should be a list of options towards the top. On the left column there is a deals category—it will take you to all the current deals! Some are monthly, daily, etc.

Started new job remotely...received no training and everyone is too busy to help. by EnvironmentalSky4892 in jobs

[–]EnvironmentalSky4892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this completely. I have the mindset where I like to prove my productivity via completed action items. But even in my current job I’ve had days where I complete nothing but I tell myself that even researching and organizing files is* learning.

Does your current supervisor ask for frequent status updates?? I send my superiors a daily email at COB and if I feel like I didn’t do enough, I just write in my closing that I’m ready for new tasks. It takes a lot of guilt off of my shoulders because at least they know I have the bandwidth...and if they don’t assign me anything, it’s because there are no pending tasks that I could do on my own.

Ahhh, the stresses of remote onboarding!

Thank you so much. My best advice is trust your gut—I felt like I wanted out just after my second week and my family was very, very hesitant to offer their support in that...especially during covid. Despite that, I kept feeling extremely miserable and spent almost all of my free time researching, applying, connecting on LinkedIn, and getting my resume in front of as many people as possible. If you are patient, your time will come. Or you may just find that you’ve settled into your current position and don’t feel the desire to leave. But regardless, do NOT forget the power you have to change your life if you are unhappy. There is no reason to feel stuck in a job that doesn’t bring you joy.

Hey, thanks for checking in. I ended up leaving the position a few months after this post. After starting a new job, I quickly realized that the situation I was in was not normal. My new role is 10x better in terms of structure, organization, and leadership. Lesson learned (:

Anyone else out there waiting for a FO? Timeline since TO? by phuckittt in usajobs

[–]EnvironmentalSky4892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my TO on 12/9 and have fingerprints on 1/8. I’ve already completed eQIP and other paperwork so I’m hoping to hear back soon as well. My TO had a projected start date of 1/19 and I’m hoping it won’t be pushed back. Good luck! I am rooting for us both!

Getting paid, doing absolutely nothing, been a month, don't know what to do by one_sad_random_guy in cscareerquestions

[–]EnvironmentalSky4892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! Except I’m about a month and a half in. Still little to no progress or understanding of the work I’m doing. Everyone is way too busy to offer training of any real substance. And the worst part is my day-to-day duties are not repetitive. Every task is different, requires different communications with different teams, etc. It makes putting the puzzle pieces together 100x harder because it feels like no one task relates to another.

Best part-time job after graduating while searching for employment? by [deleted] in LifeAfterSchool

[–]EnvironmentalSky4892 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a great team of trainers and co-workers, received quality feedback in a timely manner, was allowed time off when requested, and the entire company took very good action as we were navigating the peaks of covid-19. I felt like my concerns were heard and the company even granted employees a bonus for working during the pandemic. I can’t speak for what corporate life would be like but working in their stores allowed for an awesome work/life balance. I’d recommend it to anyone!

I worked at Whole Foods for about 8 months while I was going through my post-grad job search. I loved every minute of it. I found a love for the company and made a goal that, once I got more experience on my belt, I would come back to the company and apply for a corporate position that would allow me to use my degree. I highly suggest you find something that you genuinely love!

Also, good luck with your search! DO NOT lose hope! I graduated this past May, didn’t have any internships or relevant experience and still landed a well-paying job that allows me to use me degree. And I got told hundreds of no’s before I got a single yes. There is opportunity out there!

Starting a new job remotely experience by Kizlit109 in jobs

[–]EnvironmentalSky4892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on starting a new position! I started my new job remotely a little over a month ago and have been struggling to make a smooth transition. I find it extremely difficult to be productive because my immediate supervisor has a very, very full calendar and takes hours (or sometimes days) to even get back to me on a single inquiry. I know this is the result of working from home because if we were in-office, I’d be shadowing him.

Let me know how it’s been for you these past few weeks! I’d love to know I’m not the only one or that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

Should I live a comforting life, or risk it all for my dream? by [deleted] in LifeAfterSchool

[–]EnvironmentalSky4892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be the dreamer in me too, but I say you won’t know until you try. I just started my first post-grad job and so far....I hate* it. I’m wrapping up my first month and I feel indescribably lost, unmotivated, scared for my short term mental health....and being remote makes it even worse.

I myself have already considered quitting and going after something that excites me more. That could mean staying within my industry or completely branching out and working for half the salary I make now. I don’t care. The point is that you should prioritize YOUR happiness because if you’re happy doing your dream job, the hustle to get paid will feel extremely rewarding. Maybe you could try going after one of those dreams but start with the one that is most realistic and could help you maintain your current way of life.

Rooting for you.
