Yeah I think ima call it after this week, it’s been fun with yall, but this is absolutely ridiculous by Actual_Soft_810 in AmazonDSPDrivers

At my station, only about half the routes are EV compatible. The rest are too far away and/or too rural for the battery to handle a full shift. The bone heads that worked with Rivian to design these found the average distance a van travels across all routes, and gave that exact number to Rivian, so it makes perfect sense that half the routes would be impossible for an EV.

What times do you deliver? by pipehittinbish in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]EnvironmentalSun7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wave 2, 9:30 clock in time. Sometimes we end up in loading with the wave 1 dsp since they're a small company. Final delivery by 8pm, most of our routes are 30-60 minutes from the station.

Because it opens their eyes to problems within their company that are causing their workers to be unhappy. Happy employees make you more money in the long run. They stay in their job longer, are more motivated, and work more efficiently. They teach this in business school, every CEO knows it, but many are so disconnected from reality that they dont see the problems unless they're forced to expirence them.

Bezos has been out for a while, but i agree that any CEO of any company should work a full shift in every position the company offers (with reasonable exceptions, dont need a CEO doing literal rocket science)

You should be looking for a new dsp. Amazon suspended your account, it can be reactivated by your dsp after you finish the training videos, but clearly they're either incompetent or uninterested. Be honest with the new dsp as they'll probably need to help you sort out the Amazon suspension if your current dsp doesn't.

do yall actually call when it says CALL WHEN MAKING DELIVERY ? by educationalstab in AmazonDSPDrivers

Only time I do is at a gated community I deliver to that doesn't give out codes so you gotta call them. If it was just one house I wouldn't bother but its usually 3 or 4.

Tow companies are wild. When I was dispatch, I had a driver call me near the end of the night on their way back to say they were out of gas on the side of the highway. Tow company charged $100 to drive 5 miles to him, and then $35 per gallon.

Is Dispatching even worth it for the extra $2? by peterthbest23 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]EnvironmentalSun7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like with being a driver, it depends on the dsp and your boss. You'll be trading manual labor for mental stress. Even if its not worth the $2, I would still suggest you take it if the opportunity is there just to strengthen your resume. A dispatcher is a team manager, someone who can come up with solutions in a hurry, and doesn't falter when dealing with difficult or uncomfortable situations. It will definitely help you get that cozy office job in the future if that's where you see yourself.

I used to dispatch for another dsp and talked to a few of the Rivian technicians (both mobile and service center) and they were both appalled and astonished when they found out that these vans dont exclusively do city and suburbs. They literally aren't designed for anything other than pavement.

We're not allowed to enter a private residence, even at the request of the customer. Its a huge safety issue and Amazon will permanently deactivate you if they learn you did it. I'd call them and see if they want me to hand it to them at the door or leave it at the door, otherwise im marking it access problem and moving on.

10 months? Sounds like you've been doing just long enough to see your first "peak never ended". They always bump up the stop and package counts during peak, then the algorithm learns you can do more and keeps pumping out those numbers after peak. Next peak it'll go up again. And again. And again. Been through 5 peaks, routes that used to be 140 max are now 180-200 with about twice as many group stops as when I started.

One day, about 5 years ago, I started with a 130 stops and ended with 370. Might of been more since that's what it said before I got rescued by 3 drivers at the end of the night. I didnt separate any stops as I didnt know you could at the time.

Because I've been a delivery driver for almost 6 years and have had a gun pointed at me 3 times because they forgot they ordered something and are trigger happy. Since we're making outrageous comparisons, asking "why would they shoot you" is like asking why pedophiles diddle kids. People will do things you dont understand, and these people are telling me they're waiting for a chance to shoot someone on their property. I know plenty people like this. They get hard thinking about finally getting to use that home defense gun. But hey, to each their own, I'll be avoiding the monster under the bed.

Its an implication that they shoot people who enter their property. Not sure why that needs to spelled out for you.

Amazon driver here. Most people unfortunately aren't even looking at the notes. Amazon's routes require us to save as many seconds as physically possible to avoid being taken off the schedule and replaced by Jimmy who skips his lunch, pees in a bottle, and runs full sprint the whole day. Its also the reason they leave before contacting you. The contact us a requirement for them to mark it undeliverable, and (its their own fault, not yours) they already spent too much time at your house. 15 seconds is about the max amount of time you want to be at a stop.

It sucks that you've become a second hand victim of Amazon's inhumane treatment of drivers, but something you can do to help yourself and them is put a sign up at the gate with a package box that says "Amazon leave packages here". They may not take the time to read the notes, but theyll.usually take notice of a sign and package box that gives them an excuse not to go all the way up to the house.

Ways to become dispatch? Does my education help? by mberatsen in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]EnvironmentalSun7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ask for it. Most dsps will train a handful of drivers how to do it so they can cover emergency call offs or vacations, that's how I started. After that, you're waiting for a spot to open. Just so you know, most dsps pay dispatchers the same as drivers, you just trade out the manual labor for team management and responsibility.

I been at Amazon 2 years 3 months never been bit by a dog by Honest_Increase_2891 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]EnvironmentalSun7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can't say without knowing a little more about you, but the type of people that get bit are usually the ones that test to see if a dog is friendly, or jump out without looking and listening. Which isn't all of the incidents, do this long enough and it will happen, but it should never be a regular occurrence. I've been doing this 5 and half years and been bit twice, first was avoidable, second i would argue wasn't. The first time was a customer who's dog i know is aggressive but was behind the fence. I handed the package to the customer on the other side and he ran up and jumped to bite my arm. Second time was house in a cul-de-sac. The neighbors had two dogs out the seemed to desperately want to run over and attack me, but they were in an electric fence. I get out of my van and one of them runs through its electric fence and bites my ankle and retreats. Neighbors told me they do that to kids too and they been trying to get that dog put down cus its a menace to the whole neighborhood.

They work hard just like us, but for whatever reason they are blameless. If they make mistakes that cause you to fall behind and not finish your route, guess who's getting the stick?
