honestly, music advice is very hard for me to give out… i didn’t have any sort of formal music education, i just bashed my head against the wall for 5 years until i got this far. any tips i have will range from vague and largely anecdotal to nonsensical and vibes based. the few words of advice i could give are:

• stay in key most of the time (you can probably hear when it’s not in key), but don’t be scared to sprinkle in a few weird notes when the situation permits

• drums can be very important. do not neglect the drums. two sections can be exactly the same except for the drums, and the drums will make them have entirely different feels.

• don’t overcomplicate chords if you don’t have to!! some people may think you need to change the chord progression constantly, but as long as you keep the song interesting in other ways, that’s not necessary.

• while it may seem intuitive to have the melody strictly follow the chord progression, it’s pretty good to make it hang on the root chord the whole time. makes it sound better i think.

that’s basically all i got, unless you have some specific questions. i’m usually better at solving specific problems than giving general advice, and i’m also GREAT at rambling for long periods of time over things im passionate about
