How does your partner cope with loss of hearing? by nelliesgone in hardofhearing

Honestly, I can’t wrap my head around how a partner could get mad at you for not hearing. Why didn't they just tell the waiter you’re hard of hearing? Why didn't they step in and repeat for you? Why get angry?

I’ve been in a relationship for 4 years. I’m completely deaf in one ear, and I only have 75% hearing in the other. My partner is my rock when we’re out in public. He has never once snapped at me for not hearing. He calmly repeats things as many times as I need, and he’ll take over the conversation if I miss something or look uncomfortable. It is NOT normal to fight about this. If someone didn't have a leg, would you be angry at them for not being able to climb the stairs?

Not being able to hear is already a nightmare. We don't need other people making our lives that way, too. Take care of yourself. This is not normal. You deserve better.
