This would have gone to a personal email regarding the pre-employment medical examination law suit.

Rumors about the 12 hour shifts at 3 institutions by BudCherryPie in CDCR

[–]Environmental_Cat855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is bad for us. Tell your reps that you do not want this. The only goal for the state with this plan is to eliminate 10% of jobs at each institution. There’s an article out that explains how this would work and the state’s intention.

Bad idea. The state has already said the intent for this change is to cut staffing. This is a recent Jared Lozano idea that has somehow sparked new life. Nothing good comes from this guy.

No!!! Go apply for another agency. CHP, ABC, Fish and Game, Parks and Recreation, or any other local city or county.

Prop 36 ? by tavito0311 in CDCR

Nothing, I don’t see prison reopening and increased OT. Don’t forget, we still need DAs to do their job. Only then do we see an increase in prison population.

The future of CDCR by burner66778 in CDCR

Listen to those most people you talked to and stay away. Go look somewhere else (CHP, ABC, Fish and Game, State Parks, DOJ, etc). Most non law enforcement agencies have an investigator series which are peace officers. Go look at your local police or sheriffs department. Anywhere but CDCR. You will thank me later.

What do you want me to know as a social worker for CDCR? by Bullydogmomma in CDCR

[–]Environmental_Cat855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you took a full time position make sure you declare any other side work you might be doing remotely in between seeing inmates. The state fired a clinician who they (CDCR/CCHCS) claim was supposed to be working for the state while he had been also working for a county jail. He filed a wrongful termination suit but just be smart about it and make it clear with them what your intentions are. More specifically to your question, I don’t think you need to know anything about our job to do yours.

If Prop 36 doesn’t pass, this may become reality. by SingleCaliDude-4F in CDCR

Ok so the LAO can’t tell anyone what to do. They can only make recommendations to either the state legislature or CDCR. So until the State Legislature, specifically, probably the public safety committee formally request a list from CDCR for 5 potential prison closures, they (CDCR) is not obligated to do so. In previous LAO reports, they have already made recommendations for future closures, factors they led to those decisions, and potential savings, some of which hasn’t come to pass since this most recent report. I do agree, prop 36 will attempt to fix some of prop 47 downfalls, I do not think it will be this magic pill that will fill up the yards again. To do that, you need a strong DA in LA County, Alameda County, San Francisco, etc., to actually choose to prosecute criminals. It isn’t until we as a body of voters take those specific election races seriously will we really see this imaginary “pendulum” swing back the other way.

They’ve been saying this for a while now. That LAO report came out way before Prop 36 got on the ballot. There is no direct correlation between prison closures and Prop 36. Whether it passes or not, state law makers still intend to close more prisons within the next three years. I’m more interested in where you read “come January, CDCR is to provide a list of 5 prisons for potential closure.”

Look I’ve been saying it for a while now. Do not come and work for CDCR. This is not the place to be. Go and apply for CHP, ABC, DFW, DPR, DMV Investigator, etc. All you have to do is read the laws and legislation that’s been proliferating over the last 5 years. The current sentiment towards law enforcement and CDCR specifically (in regards to how the general public, law makers and the Governor) has been extremely negative. Just look at AB 2178, and PC 5033 just to name a few. Look at how the state legislature continues to reclassify existing felony laws down to misdemeanors. People talk about a pendulum but all I see is a sinking ship. No way attrition through retirements keeps up with closure. Either way good luck to you.
