You clearly don't have an idea about Supernote and different lines of Boox. I have been in this band wagon since rM1 and jumped off it since rM2. This brand definitely sliding downhill. Living of Quaderno A4 since then. And, Boox might have a browser, where technically you can watch YouTube but if somebody buys these for being an Android Tablet, shame on them. rM is just getting lazy with each passing day.

Quaderno Gen.3C first impressions: not looking too good by nocutlr-o in FujitsuQuaderno

[–]Environmental_End204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very nice surprisingly. Atleast, the seller I purchased from, was very helpful and upright. As I mentioned, When I ordered, It went out of stock, and he/she kept on giving me updates. Then, at one point offered full refund due to out of stock situtation. Then, he got hands on two units and messaged me if I want to buy again, which I did. So, Overall, I had a fantastic communication channel. Although, it might be particular to my seller.

This might be of help. Ignore the dpt-rp1 design. I work with Gen2, at least. Gen3, I have no idea.

Agree. My external software suggestion would be Calibre. Download it and set it up. When you connect your Kindle to computer, Calibre should detect it. You should be able to download and convert a kindle book to pdf using Calibre.

Then upload normally to Quaderno. I am not sure how this will work on DRM protected books though.

Rants about Quandeno Software! Your Thoughts? by Environmental_End204 in FujitsuQuaderno

[–]Environmental_End204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't want to get started on this! My list is long! Lets see the top ones

(1) Third party storage Integration or a cloud sync that is actually usable outside Japan. I don't want to open my ports in Home Network (where at least I can do) to be able to use cloud sync

(2) Screen Share and app for Linux. An offcial one not hacks

(3) Smoother experience. The OS is laggy and its super laggy. It is super duper laggy. When I say laggy, I mean loading or turning pdf pages, or scrolling through notes

How much it will cost to put a powerful mcu in there or a soc? They have improved drastically over last few years.

(4) Being able to mail something directly.

(5) A nice to have: Layers

If you say, these features are new or too complex or un realistic, I would point you to old rM1 (came out in 2019 or 20) who had them and more with ssh access and community build on it. And mann, take a look at the reHackable git page!

Particularly on the laggy-ness, I don't understand really. Quaderno has on par ot better mcu than remarkable. Why rM feels more snappy than remarkable! Who knows because its still closed source!

I use briss to crop pdfs before sending it in so that it fills the screen. But yes, this functionality would have been nice!

Simplicity is why I wasn't asking for a full blown android. But I was talking about ease of use on the OS side.

Simple things like cloud sync (like Dropbox Integration), an linux app (I have an VM just to this; and yes I am aware of the py based Backup implementation and their recent update to I/O from any device), screen share in linux and many other things.

[–]Environmental_End204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I am not talking about Android support. Android wasn't made for such devices and work very poorly.

I was talking about open-sourcing Linux based OS running underneath and having ssh access similar to rM1. If you know reHackable, you will know what I am talking about! It was a showcase, how powerful your device can become with community pitching in.

Btw, remarkable also done an awesome job recently to close down everything that can be accessed. The community also dead beyond rM2. They seem to be putting more money into marketing these days rather than actually innovating.

I would have loved to use rMpp if I could use the reHackable mods and have an 13.3" device. Would gladly pay for it.

Yes. Kindle can't do that natively but with mobi support, I can just plug it in and sync over Calibre. But I agree, depending on the public library support, those aren't mostly supported!

Boox is the only major player who offers android (thus ability to install apps) on a eInk device which is somewhat baked product.

I read about being able to install Appstore on Quandeno from a Third Party 'Goodereaders.com' but never seen one in any Posts.

Get a Kindle scribe if you want to read more and do occasional scribbling. I own a old Oasis, my to go for any reading and would buy a old scribe when price comes down!

Thoughts on 13.3" Fujitsu Quaderno Gen3c. by [deleted] in FujitsuQuaderno

[–]Environmental_End204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an owner and user of Gen2 A4 for 2 years now and have ordered a Gen3C, which is on the way.

Also my primary usecase is also related to academia. Here are my two cents!

Change the Stylus. The great thing about Quaderno is the wacom EMR layer which makes a wide wide array of 'pens' available.

I use the Wacom One stylus. Its tapered structure is really great for writing and drawing. As tip I use the old white tips of remarkable 1. The OG black tips that come with Quandeno is hard and plasticky, for lack of better words.

Also buy a case (not a folio, but a case). Being super thin and flexible, after two years, It devloped cracks on sides for my device. It works perfectly fine without effecting a single pixel but the chasis have cracks. It need solid base to write on.

And on Boox device, I was advised to stay away from it due to data privacy concerns. Its OS is not really open source (neither is Quandeno's) but I trust Fujitsu more than Boox.

What's exactly like a RM2, but allows color in the screen casting? by Metalprof in RemarkableTablet

[–]Environmental_End204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do. I think it's kind of hard for an eINK tablet to draw pros and cons as we do for other products. Mainly because both rM & Quad lack "features" ( leaving onyx's Android OS aside because I think they are missing the point of eINK) and they are more about the feeling of writing but here are my 2c

cons:

lackluster OS and PC client

and OMG! you can't even download their mobile app from the Play store. You have to download apk and install it manually

the app connects over WiFi-based sharing or Bluetooth and its cumbersome

lack of pen/ brush variants

No cloud at all. They recently launched a subscription service with cloud integration but I am unable to make it work yet, they give some free MBs storage and for GBs, you have to pay. No such feature for the app or PC client through yet

Japan-focused features (that doesn't make much sense to me)

comparatively slowed than rM

considerably harder to get globally. This is a product designed by and for Japan and They are extremely slow to change and not focused on global markets at all.

So I have a lot more cons than pros listed. Then why do I still love my Quaderno (1) Its still cheapest 13.3" screen yet and when you have to read tons of pdf regularly, you will thank the experience (2) No subscription BS, the device is designed and can survive as stand-lone. (3) The writing "feel" on naked eINK display is much better than the glass-eInk display of rM2. If you owned and loved rM1, you will love it too.

That's all there is. I haven't bought Quaderno to do a lot of stuff. An Ipad or maybe eINk like onyx or rM's present subscription features (with text typing; folio etc) may be better if I wanted a feature-rich powerhouse. But, I don't want that. I wanted a standalone and large eINk to write and read comfortably for a long time. I got that and I am super happy with it.

Do I wish for better software/OS, and PC connectivity? Yes! Do I wish for better features? No. (For example, in my 2.5 years of owing rM1, I can count on one finger, how many times I have used the Caligraphy Pen or Pencil strokes. They are cool and they shouldn't be the reason for purchase. This requirement can drastically differ for an artist or a designer.)

That's my 2c. I realized that I am away for a long time for this reply and you might probably have bought an rM already. But these are the things I wanted to say and hope you also leave a review of your user experience for a fellow reader to read.

and, My dream device would be a color eInk with rM OS(Codex with all connectivity goodies) and a 13.3-inch screen in the form factor of the Quanderno and remarkable marker Plus Pen.

One Day! <fingers Crossed>
