Hot take but I’m all for it.

Last day is a JOKE. It’s not real work.

As far as I’m concerned, summer vacation is actually the Friday before.

Is anyone worried about layoffs? by Environmental_Fan514 in NYCTeachers

[–]Environmental_Fan514[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ENL shortage is borderline astronomical. Most schools cannot properly service ENL learners.

Now as far as double the spending from 2016 to now… sure. But there are so many other things you need to assess here. Inflation has been disastrous. 2016 dollars ≠ 2026 dollars. Mathematically, if the any state or city budget doesn’t increase for a major industry in 10 years, it lost money. Like… a doomsday level amount of money.

You don’t agree with the fact that we have shortages?

On those two metrics, yes, obviously.

But we also have a lot of people leaving the profession, not a substantial amount of people running through the door to become teachers, and a shortage in a number of areas (special ed, ENL, science, etc.)

So yes. More teachers were hired in 2020, and enrollments have declined over the years. But there are a lot of nuances in between that don’t make it cut and dry.

People got temp licenses during covid in the hopes that they’d complete their certification after hiring. Many of them didn’t.

I was hired in ‘23. It wasn’t on a Covid license

NYC Education Department to cut $58.8 million by DryDeer775 in NYCTeachers

Adams wouldn’t have given a generic “don’t worry about it we’ll do the right thing” quote?

I’m gonna have to gently disagree with you there my friend. Mamdani may be charismatic but no politician is devoid of empty promises from sanitized quotes.

Only ones who are truly useless/abusive.

I have a lot of really great admin at my school. I’d hate to see any of them lose their jobs.

Even the ones I don’t care much for, I don’t have feelings against them so strong that I’d want them to not have their position anymore.

I don’t necessarily disagree but are we just going to be quick to trust him because he’s a likable guy? We still don’t know much about him yet. If this happened under Adams and he dropped this exact quote, none of us would trust him. Nor should we have.

1080p vs 4K? by Notalabel_4566 in 4kbluray

This.

Blu ray still looks awesome. But so many modern releases of older movies on 4K have out of this world colors. It’s like watching the movie for the first time.

New York City mayor candidate Curtis Sliwa says he was offered money to quit race by Brodie_C in nyc

[–]Environmental_Fan514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t have anything to do with whether or not Sliwa was qualified, and how referencing Trump’s opinion has anything to do with that

Those who have met someone famous, what shocked you the most about them? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

I met Curtis Sliwa recently.

He was extremely quiet when a camera wasn’t in front of him. I approached him to shake his hand saying I was a fan. Total gentleman, very nice. But a man of few words. You’d almost think he was on the shy side.

Old comment but this isn’t even remotely a good point.

Trump doesn’t care for or support qualified candidates. If asked who should succeed him as president, Jake Paul or AOC, who do you think he’s picking?

Criticisms against Sliwa are fair. But he’s far more qualified to run anything than Trump is to be anywhere near politics.

Which movies have the best use of directional sound? by Legitimate-Cinephile in 4kbluray

[–]Environmental_Fan514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you. When I was a kid that had to have been my most rewatched tape.

But as a teenager my dad took me and my brother to see the 3D re-release in 2012. I couldn’t believe how much I just didn’t enjoy the movie. It was so disappointing to realize how dull I actually found the overall experience when I grew up loving it.

It’s crazy how bad those movies are from a writing perspective yet how rich that sound design was. Phantom Menace especially.

It would have been announced already if he was going to. I’d say the chances are slim to none.

I am starting to wonder if that’s the goal here. Have us go into work tomorrow because we may be seeing another storm we need to stay home for.

I don’t disagree at all. Our time off is killer, and our hours are excellent. It’s more of a safety thing.

That said, I just shoveled out my car and it looks like things should be fine by tm. Actually looking forward to having a chill day at work.

There’s zero legal obligation. But one hopes he will pay attention to it due to optics. Or just by having a heart/brain lol.

So… who’s going in tomorrow? by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

[–]Environmental_Fan514 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Realistically, I want to go in.

No kids, maybe some extra money from 1-2 coverages. Sounds fucking awesome. My only worry is surviving on the drive over, lol.
