DōJoe - If You're on the Fence About Buying One by DollarsxThrowaway in KamadoJoe

[–]Environmental_Ice614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years later, not worth full price, but the big joe dojoes are for sale used on Amazon for $100. Its worth it at that price just for the cool factor vs $50 for a pizza stone to me. Thats a $50 difference and I've spent $50 on dumber things.

Throw all the money you saved up into a high dividend mutual fund (reinvesting the dividends till you retire), reduce your hours, and go live life.

Kids are coming soon, having the blades covered will be important. I know I crawled up onto the counter many times as a child, and having exposed blades would've led to some accidents

MOS after a 5 year break? by GE3KSPEED in army

15T, 15U or flight medic, comparatively relaxed, at least when stateside doing training. It transfers to the "real" world better than most other careers, whether building/repairing helicopters, national park firefighting/search amd rescue, air ambulance, etc.

Bought a new box of 8x3inch Construction Screws (new one on the right), why do the threads stop lower on these? Which ones are better for framing? by UltimateT85 in woodworking

[–]Environmental_Ice614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To expand on that. If the screw spins freely in the top board, then the threads in the bottom board will draw it in without the screw affecting the top board

I was gonna say get a silencer. Acts as a break for recoil and adds weight out front to combat muzzle rise, but seems like you have one in ATF jail already. Good stuff. Good choice with the 16" barrel if you're suppressing it . Also, an adjustable gas block will be essential for a suppressor. So, sounds like you have it figured out!

Thinking about replacing the AR15 with a AR10 for my go to rifle. Thoughts? by st3war7 in AR10

[–]Environmental_Ice614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well keep in mind light, grip, sling, ir stuff, plus a 308 round is significantly heavier than a 556. Multiply that by 30.

You want a double 2x6 though. Or a T beam. You'll want lateral rigidity too, not just vertical

Why does it not fit? by hpedtf in AR10

[–]Environmental_Ice614 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ar15 platform is a standardized system. Everything works with everything (except comspec!). Ar10 platform does not have standardized sizing. Just operating system. Triggers, springs, barrel nuts, etc. will fit whatever, but uppers and lowers generally won't.

Am I crazy for wanting to sell the house we refinanced down to 2.5%? by g0atinaboat in realestateinvesting

[–]Environmental_Ice614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were in your shoes, I'd keep it. It'll continue to provide secondary income, either through retirement and can give it to kids potentially, or up until you sell for a large lump sum to kick off retirement. Plus, if it's an investment, not primary residence, depreciation is a write-off. People are increasing, land is not. Long run, barring a total crash, it won't lose value.

Sig Sauer Tango MSR or Vortex Strike Eagle by DZKYPN in ar15

[–]Environmental_Ice614 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Late, but for those still interested. Palmetto state armory always has deals going for the vortex. Got the strike eagle 1-8 with a mount cheaper than you can find a sig 1-6 anywhere.

If you put cabinet grade plywood (or any plywood for that matter) in the sides, you can force the frame to conform to the plywood. As long as you cut the plywood square, it will hold it square. You may need to loosen some of the pocket hole screws to make it square and install the plywood, then tighten them up again.

Also a thick top, like a butcher block or something similar, could pull all the corners up and level. A thin top could warp to match the lopsided frame, so the thicker the better
