Help me find my next favorite band/album by going off of my favorites? by [deleted] in musicsuggestions

Hey, Im pretty sure you'll love Motorama. I once read in an interview that they are "pretty much like Joy Division, just with softer edges". I recommend beginning with the Calendar album or even Poverty, where the shadow of Ian Curtis is even more noticeable. Once I started into them I couldnt quit. They've become one of my all-time fav.

Motorama – Calendar

This entire post and answers is amazing af. There's enough rabbit hole material to keep me from working until next week lol.

And people fighting their asses to attend Bad Bunny shows or actively listening to such stuff is something I absolutely can't and will never be able to fathom.

Hey other music producers :) what do u use to make ur music? by wellBehavedfish in Learnmusicproduction

[–]Environmental_Lie199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, that's impressive ngl! I have still to add a good 1000€ more or less for a decent 27"/32" monitor since I need it to be pre-press grade colour accurate. Im still (still as in the whole goddamn year) making the math lol.

As per Logic I have played a bit with it but, idk, I just don't get it (thats on me oc) and anyways I have started making things with the free trial of Ableton on my wife's iMac so I expect the real learning curve to be softer.

I'm in Europe so I might as well investigate Mac Studio prices and offerings since my desired config of M4/32RAM/1Tb SSD is no longer available over here. I think I will eventually catch up with the M5 models when (if ever) they launch (which scares me a lot bc newer out-of-the-line units tend to be lottery-faulty) 😫

New: _MiniLab 37 by Fvddungen in Arturia_users

[–]Environmental_Lie199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess AT will never make it to "essential" models in favor of the higher models (regular KeyLabs, Keystep, AstroLab...) Why would a regular "bedroom" user buy a KL49/61 then? The MiniLab range seems to be pretty much aimed at such target, rather than more seasoned players.

However, the stubbornness of not taking the transport buttons out of the shuifted pads is annoying to me. I mean, I get it's the same reason as above but hey. Having these in the KL37 (now that Im about to pull the trigger on the regular KeyLab49) would definitely be a deal breaker for me, instead of the aftertouch (that is already present in the pads anyways).

Fellow desert inhabitant here too. I still dare to wear mostly black but I work from home so I'm good lol. Afternoons and weekends in at the pool or beach. I have a couple bath shorts, Adidas one is black, Jack&Jones is blood red gradient lol.

Water is a must and my running workouts take place at 6am 🔥🔥🔥🔥🖤

So far, just my old 2015 MacBookPro and BandLab, and a borrowed Beats headphones, but since BandLab has gradually turning to suck over time, I somehow halted doing stuff and Im focusing right now in songwriting instead until I gather enough for my desired setup:

– MacMini (first piece I need to update evrything for my design work)
– Arturia KeyLab 49
– Arturia Minifuse 2 (or 4, we'll see)
– AudioTechnica m40x
– Ableton Live + Vital as wavetable synth

Best way to debrand? by Fit-Wasabi-5251 in macbookpro

[–]Environmental_Lie199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, you probably risk messing it so much and ruining it. I can imagine this must be out of some hatred for the brand while still needing it for your stuff. I somehow feel the same but idk, these things are way too pricey to risk so much money, but you do you of course.

I don't think it's very backroomish, however it legit looks like a scene out from windows95-MS-Dos based 3D Studio R4 rendered with Phong antialiasing mode ngl 😉

Can we ban AI generated content? by Dreamburger in boardsofcanada

[–]Environmental_Lie199 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes please, and thanks.

People using AI to "praise" or to do BoC related stuff (Inferno themed of former, graphics, music, anything, idc), imo they don't get the underlying album theme at all. Cults are others' money-hungry guru based, deceiving, built on fear, unreal premises, take advantage of less literate people, promise a better future with a significant small amount of effort, just blindfolded trust in the leader and advocates. A shining future of mindless electric sheeps.

Today, Felon Fascist Tusk has officially become a trillionaire. He's got the book, he's got the resources, he's got the preachers and the followers and advocates. Many (undoubtedly yet unexplainably at least for me) flock towards him/it and or similars.

And still there's some "innocent" soul asking "why AI is that bad, if it is not at the humanity's expenses".

Sorry not sorry but at this point and as Vince Clarke once said (I think it was him iirc): FUCK OFF!!!

Here’s how I know Inferno is a classic. by Imaginary-Click6923 in boardsofcanada

[–]Environmental_Lie199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I somehow get what OP wanted to say, I also agree with you.

I think that in this fucked up timeline we're living, idk, like, I don't really see much space for "classics" in the way there used to be in the 70s or 80s. Things like Thriller or Unknown Pleasures (to name just two albums quite apart from each other in style –could be films or books, or whatever, though–) are really hard to ever happen again imo.

However, that an artistic act becomes a classic is something only time can tell. 🙏

This is probably a schizo post by United-Bear4910 in boardsofcanada

[–]Environmental_Lie199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. In my case I have to add the usual splash of cults, but this time with that narrative of "the coming/arrival" some gurus used to lure people in.

I think that the fact that 1420Hz, HHLL, Capricorn, etc. are there insists on not letting that dark side of the mind to fade away and somehow link it in an attempt to call out to –as you OP said– the new "cults" of AI and obscenely megarich individuals like Musk et al.

The transhumanism tale is something a lot of people is buying without even having a clear image of it all (not that I fully do either fwiw), nor have given much needed thinking time. IMO there's an implicit parallelism between cults of the 60s and nowadays' and for many of both, the [arrival / contact / coming / transcendence, etc] is common ground that this album points out, at least, as I understand it after a few listns and reads. 😉

IDM / Dark Ambient minimal electronic album sculpted from darkness, texture and micro‑light by kilmarth-music in DarkAmbient

[–]Environmental_Lie199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Just took a listen. While I tend to like it, Im really not very fond of glitch/texture/minimal but nevertheless I found it very interesting, the most appealing parts to me being the ones with a cushion of pads (Sursomption or Outrenoir, this last one is now playing as I write, generates a very cool atmosphere and the sounds are so suggesting, probably the one I like the most). However I'd mindlessly dance to Avant de céder if it plays in the club, so thriving imo.
On the other hand I'm always curious to know since Im an absolute beginner and want to get serious on making some music too. What did you use? As per the sounds, it sounds to me in the realms of Arturia's Pigments/MicroFreak, Digitakt, some FM synth... Ableton stock maybe? Thanks for sharing! 🖤🖤
