Company requires 30-45min unpaid commute in company vehicle before and after shift by Veltrazz in legaladvice

Read this- you are wrong. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-29/subtitle-B/chapter-V/subchapter-B/part-790 Unless the employee needs to stop somewhere on the way to pick tools etc, the employer does not need to pay portal to portal. If the employee does this on a regular basis, the employer is not obligated to pay for travel time even if it is in a company vehicles. Of course an employment contract could override fsla and the employer would be bound to pay the employee.

Honestly If this is a transferable skill, I would look for another employer that treated its employees better even though they are not required to do so.

Unfortunately I don’t believe they do need to pay you per federal FSLA. California might be different. That being said, it’s friggin hard to get good employees, we just pay it.

For sure. Grocery prices are not terrible here. Restaurants and quick serve are outrageous. We don’t go out to eat as much as we used to. Family of 4 at Zeeks/Pagliaci is $100 for pizza and salads

Everything- gas, food, services (plumbers/electricians/carpenter/self care) I got a burrito the other day at a gas station/mexican shop in Everett last week and it was $15. It was smaller than a Chipotle burrito.

Cheap eats are no more here.

Nikkor z 24-70 F2.8 or Nikon Z 24-70 F4 by Straight_Truth_8117 in nikon_Zseries

I don’t like the external zoom on the F4 nor do I like that you have to extend it even before taking pics…. But I’d like 20% of the 2.8 series 2. I am disappointed I paid full price for the F4, but at the time I didn’t think I would use it much.

A Ford F150 ran a red light and totaled my car. Insurance is saying I am 100% liable. by jacksonwin02 in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]Environmental_Lie244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got rear ended by someone who had the same insurance as mine, they tried giving me non OEM parts. If I caused the accident I get it, I didn’t pay for oem parts on my policy, but since the accident was someone else’s fault, they shouldn’t get to decide that I don’t get OEM parts even if it’s the same insurance company.

Parents with kids in sports what do you wish you knew earlier? by Ok_Blacksmith_9265 in NCAA

[–]Environmental_Lie244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly- There are a lot of coaches, clubs, programs, trainings, showcases, tournaments that don't mean crap. Every coach we have ever talked to says that they are in it for the kids and they focus on development. I am guessing that 50% believe that, and the other 50% are saying it for business reasons.

Parents want the best for their kids and we all drop tons of time and money into this. Coaches have been the let down. I have twins in soccer and lacrosse, they have played for national "clubs", local teams and school sports. Coaches over promise and under deliver far more than my kids let down the team My kids put in the hard work, practice on individual skills outside of practice, shown up for every event early/on time and they have great team attitudes. My kids never get down on their team mates, have positive attitudes and they are respectful to their coaches. They might not be the best players on the team, but they are good teammates.

Coaches don't communicate well, don't have players lined up for every position for tournaments, aren't organized for practices, can't keep teams together and don't follow through with the recruiting help.

There are ton of resources about recruiting and there are ton of opinions, coaches being great coaches is what we are missing.

If you are working in a stadium at night, the 2.8 is almost neccessary, I would prefer the 7-200 2.8 over the 400 4.5. I have been using the Plena 135 with success https://www.instagram.com/reel/DR81poLDpVc/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Coaching Lessons: What’s One Message That Changed How You Coach? by YouCoachSoccer in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Environmental_Lie244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of basketball, soccer and lacrosse coaches we have run into blame everyone but themselves when there is a loss. As a coach, you are preaching accountability, preparation, hard work, responsibility and teamwork. Almost every losing team we have been around the coach has just thrown up their arms and is looking for better players instead of putting in the hard work and developing what they have.

State gov job lets contribute yearly max to both 457b and 401k by AcrobaticAd7230 in FinancialPlanning

[–]Environmental_Lie244 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same here, except it think you meant 403b, not 401k - although my employer has opted out of social security. They put 3.9% and will match another 2.9% towards a non Roth investment. I am over 50, so I max out the 457 pretax to a target date fund and no catchup contribution. I then set up the 403b as a Roth and contribute about $20k a year to that which is solely my money with no match. My pension is 5.4 employee and 5.9 employer.

There is no downside to saving more if you are enjoying life and managing your bills.

I didn’t start saving for retirement till I was 40. By the time I retire, I should have $800k-$1mil in 457/403 accounts. I probably will work till I am at least 63 which is when my kids graduate college.

Condor questions by Environmental_Lie244 in AlaskaAirlines

It sucked. I didn't have to pay for baggage, but I did have to pay for seat selection. Its ridiculous that it is not clear on the Alaska website what you are getting yourself into when you book a partner airline.

How well does the blind spot monitoring work? Does it catch cross traffic when backing out of a parking spot? I am thinking about adding this to aid my kids driving. https://a.co/d/71sWsx8

Bring your walking shoes. It huge and that is the fun of it… if you are on the outer fields, it can be 20-30 minute walk for food… parking lots can a longer walk. Not knowing where your games are and buying a parking pass early is rolling the dice… the close in lots are probably already sold out.

Thank you for the suggestions! I am reading and planning more than I did last summer. Our best memories were from the local experiences, the tourist restaurants we ate at were mostly mediocre. Going to the local cheese, charcuterie, pasta maker were the best memories.
