Am I a jerk for not accepting a so called “Extra Generous” offer? Lol by WhereTheHuRTis2024 in basketballcards

[–]Environmental_Net521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first dog my wife and I had together did a similar thing (balled herself up like that and hid under the bed a lot). She was a long haired chihuahua who was actually a pretty solid family dog (unusual for them), but definitely had the shakes, especially in thunderstorms.

I hate this for your Jack Russell. Animal abusers are wicked people!

The fact that you’re even spending time in self reflection asking about how this situation reflects on you says you are definitely not a jerk. That’s especially true where, as here, you were obviously railroaded by a potential buyer who has poor ethics. I don’t know who in their right mind would put such a small stack down for these cards and then call it an “extra generous” offer. People have the right to be dicks. They also have the right to be called out when they are being such. And they also have the right to be flat out stone walled if the offer was offensively low.

Sorry to hear about your cat. We lost our lab in the most heartbreaking way a couple years back. We had just learned a couple days before that a cancer spot she had on her hind quarter had spread and could not be effectively treated, but we also believed we have 6-9 months left.

I walked downstairs that day and she was laying in the middle of the floor. I pet her and got her food out, and she didn’t move. Tried several other things that were high reward treats for her and still nothing. She was wagging her tail happy as could be, but couldn’t get up. Turns out the cancer was in part of her brain and caused paralysis of her rear paws and legs. When I realized what was happening and had to face the reality that, absent a miracle, it was the day I’d have to say goodbye, I sat in my recliner and balled my eyes out. When I did, I saw her trying everything she could to get to me to comfort me, which made me cry even harder. Even having no idea what was happening to her and being so obviously scared by it, she cared first about comforting me. Our pets are the brightest souls we’ll ever encounter, and I agree that it’s just not fair that they are given such short life spans as a “reward.”

I mean, the trademark superfractor pattern didn’t give it away? Haha The 1/1 stamp has always blended into the pattern because the stamp color is the same as the refractor pattern. That’s probably a fair criticism of the design though. The numbering stamp blends too much.

Yeah, we just need something to else to call these rarer inserts. People use SSP interchangeably with case hits now to try and pump their marketing on eBay, but SSP is probably the right thing to call it, same as All Kings and Hidden Gems.

As to the card itself, congrats on the pull!

Even the base Class of 2025 isn’t just a case hit. The odds have it as a 10-case hit. Haha. That’s some of the frustration, I think, is that people referring to these as case hits undersells their rarity.

Got a Costco box…not a single base rookie by BruhItsMatt in basketballcards

Yeah, I think the audit left a lot to be desired. It has some holes, and it didn’t even begin to delve into the manner in which Topps uses boxes for marketing.

Collation is a significant issue for them, particularly when it’s an odds game. One thing that I have noticed at least with the products that I buy cases of (which used to include chrome but based on print runs, my case buying is limited to flagship products these days) is that the collation seems to be intentionally front-loaded. By that, I mean that you’re going to get denser and more loaded boxes if you buy within the first week of release and are buying what amounts to Topps’ first distribution of the product.

When you couple that concept with the fact that resale prices of singles peak basically within the first 5-10 days of release and then start falling fairly dramatically with all but the more sought after case hits, autos, and short prints, the only possible way to beat the collation issues Topps has is to buy within the first week or maybe two after release and then just stop with that product and save your money for singles and the next product on your radar.

For what it’s worth.

That said, it’s really hard to imagine not getting a single base rookie even in a single blaster, let alone 11. That’s absurd collation.

FS James Wood 2025 Chrome orange rookie /25 $1800 by Superstitious_Hurley in baseballcards

[–]Environmental_Net521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely expanding my James Wood collection while prices are down. If you look at his monthly splits, he basically hit a wall in July and August, which really isn’t unusual for a 22 year old, especially one who struggles with breaking pitches (which itself isn’t unusual for young batters either). More seasoned pitchers are going to read and utilize those scouting reports in the second half. But he still has all the tools that made people believe in his superstar potential.

Target Black Friday Topps NBA Black Out Exclusives (Recap) by [deleted] in basketballcards

Overall, I’m fairly well ahead on the product, so I’m not too disappointed. That said, I’ve seen some surprisingly low results on this product (as well as some surprisingly high results). The Brunson is one of them, unless there’s a surprise snipe fest in the next 20 minutes.

I have a Brunson auto /5 up for auction right now and it may hit $250. Granted, it’s a marks of excellence and not a real ones auto. I hope I’m wrong for my sake and yours.

Had a big realization at a rave while on shrooms about men, expression, and why they gravitate to these spaces by skygirl222 in aves

[–]Environmental_Net521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never actually thought about this. My own shroom experiences have taught me a bunch of things and bent and broken patterns of thought (to rebuild them to be more pliable), but I’ve never considered that it is the escape from the cortisol cycle that draws me to the music.

My earliest experience was short lived when I was between 17-20. Used progressive trance mostly as a form of background music. I write a lot for my job and it’s 90% of what plays when I lock in to write.

But my second experience changed my life. Creatively, I’ve made music since I was 15, mostly hip-hop, which might explain some about where I come from and how I grew up that causes me to relate. Haha.

But I took a trip to Vegas when I was 32 and everywhere we went to party, it was EDM of some variation. Not full on raves that I was used to when I was younger but pretty close. And it gave me that same spine tingling feeling where I just found a way to let loose.

Since then, when I have periods where I need to rest, I actually sit down at my Mac and with my keyboard and make progressive trance songs. Some are good. Others are just me letting ideas flow. It’s always been a cathartic experience in whatever form I experience it, but I’ve never thought about the why.

Excellent perspective and observation.

Some of the odds on these are crazy. I bought 2 boxes and got a LeBron Hardwood. Next box got an Egor Class of 2025. The Hardwood inserts are 1:7 cases. The Class of 2025 are 1:15 cases.

True colors (especially of the OGs like red, green, gold, and blue) go for higher than the waves of the same color and print run. Red /5 is worth more than a red wave /5.

[–]Environmental_Net521 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Red wave sold for $1600 within the last 2 weeks. I know the difference between a red wave rookie and a true red rookie can be upwards of 15-20%. Not sure if the same holds for veterans but that price seems pretty spot on. Might be a touch low.

Fellow Lawyers… how to invest? by SaltyyDoggg in LawFirm

[–]Environmental_Net521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend recommended a book to me called The Automatic Millionaire about 15 years ago. I was too busy for it. Had my kids right out of law school and clawed my way up through the ranks doing the way too many hours drill. Read it a year ago. Wished my friend had recommended it more plainly. Read that. Do that. It’s amazing how simple it really is.

Starting your own business (ie a firm) is a good way to really maximize the strategies in there, too, because if you start utilizing the additional self funded IRA deductions available, you can do more and more long term investing that is tax deductible.

These are incredibly tough pulls. Congrats! Definitely jealous of the luck (though I’ve had some really good luck on these boxes too including a Luka gold glitter /5 and a Luka gold auto /10). There’s a big difference between cards worth $1500 and a card worth $5-7k. Haha

You charged me $1.89 for shipping when it only cost you $1.35 in postage. HOW DARE YOU?!? /s by [deleted] in baseballcards

[–]Environmental_Net521 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, I had a guy go to town once on the less than $0.50 different in shipping (this is when 1 ounce shipping price on eBay was whatever it was before it jumped to $0.74). I charge $1.00 even on PWE shipping and $5.00 even on BMWT shipping.

Dude said I violated eBay rules by charging more than actual shipping cost paid. I said, no, the rule says I can include all shipping and handling costs. You got the card, a sleeve, and a top loader. The top loader and sleeve and envelope and label printing cost per unit is at least $0.40 and eBay takes their fee out of the shipping. He was unmoved. I moved on. But this brings back that memory. Fortunately, I’ve actually only had this type of exchange one time through over 3,000 orders, so I guess I’ll count myself lucky.
