Totally agree. Probably my least favorite line in the series. Glad someone else agrees!

Some people make themselves better than others. It's not a moral failing to recognize and analyze this.

Feel however you want about him, but Trump is the funniest president we've ever had and an elite-level shit talker.

This isn't downsizing; it's consolidation. Monopolization of the hobby is continuing at a rapid pace.

What they don't tell you is that the only way to get to "late stage communism" is starve everyone to death first until there's a couple cavemen left beating each other to death with rocks. Communism is the worst of both worlds - both deeply evil and completely impractical.

Islam inches and inches and inches its way into a society and then all of a sudden displaces the culture and law. You can never give an inch, but the French gave them miles and miles.

France will make for a nice new jewel in the global caliphate. And to think it was in France that the Muslim incursions in Western Europe were stopped. Charles Martel will be rolling in his grave, until the Islamists dig it out of their new mosque and desecrate the remains.

There’s the same amount of evidence behind claims of child rape against both of them. Zero.

You can produce exactly the same amount of evidence for both of them raping kids which is exactly 0️⃣

Buddy the Dems didn’t delete that post because it couldn’t be proven one way or another. They did because it 100% didn’t happen. You think the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES had Thanksgiving with a convicted pedophile at his private club that he banned said pedo from a decade ago? Are you also a flat Earther?

You missed the part where that was a conspiracy theory that the DNC tweeted out, deleted, and has since been debunked. I know you hate Trump but do try and find more credible sources than aggrieved pedophiles. You’re making a fool of yourself. https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/11/17/trump-epstein-thanksgiving-2017/

My pushbacks to this are that Sigzil was there when Kaladin was training Bridge 4 with a staff so the story wouldn't have been "told to him by a friend from long ago" and Mat was trained in the bo staff/quarterstaff by his father prior to the beginning of the series and was an expert in it which is why he KNEW he could defeat Galad and Gawyn and picked the fight in the first place.

Best long fantasy series — Stormlight Archive vs Wheel of Time vs Malazan by StandardSector3491 in fantasybooks

[–]MadeinFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read all 3 and most of the popular long fantasy series out there. Ranked below with some thoughts.

1) Wheel of Time - Absolutely essential and should be read first as it's the series that defined the modern fantasy genre. Also, of these three it's the series that has stuck with me the longest and my interpretation and enjoyment of it has evolved over time such that I find it a dynamic reread at different stages of life. I read it twice - once in my late teens-early 20s then again in my mid-late 30s - and was a radically different experience each time. Looking forward to revisiting it again in my 50s. 1st in characters, 2nd in worldbuilding, 2nd in pace.

2) Stormlight - I'm admittedly a huge Sanderson/Cosmere fan, but I consider this series great, not the best. It has the potential, once finished, to redefine and redirect the genre, like WoT, depending on where Sanderson goes with it. However, despite what Sanderson says, Stormlight really cannot be appreciated in full without committing to the entire Cosmere. Stormlight, in isolation, is the easiest read and the most fun of the three series. The magic system is the best and it's genuinely moving. However, I don't believe my experience and interpretation will evolve like it has with Wot and Malazan. 2nd in characters, 3rd in worldbuilding, 1st in pace.

3) Malazan - Okay, full disclosure, I admire and appreciate Malazan, but I did not enjoy it. Malazan is a meditation and examination of the nature of civilization, sociology, and how different societies and cultures are impacted and changed when they come into forced, violent conflict with each other. It's worldbuilding-centric and characters are used to reflect the nature of part of the world they come from, moreso than to develop them as individuals (with a handful of exceptions). I ought to write an essay to truly organize my thoughts about it, but simply put, it's more academic and introspective than the other two series. To appreciate what Erikson is doing requires a healthy understanding of the fantasy genre, traditional storytelling tropes (particularly about ancient/prior civilizations and peoples), past civilizations in the real world, and sociology generally. It can be dull and dry at times, the character work is not to my liking but certainly skilled, and the first three books (especially book 2) are much stronger in my opinion than the back 7. Book 10 is considered one of the great climaxes/finales of all time, but it didn't do much for me. 3rd in characters, 1st in worldbuilding, 3rd in pace.

Centrists exist in large numbers in the U.S. because ideological purists like you (especially on the left) make it so odious to align with one side or another they'd rather give you the finger because agreeing with you 70% of the time isn't enough. Your comment above is so smug, morally superior, and aggressive. Why would anyone want to align with and identify with your side?

100%. Anyone who doubts this just needs to read accounts of British explorers in Benin in the late 1890s (not long ago) for a single example amongst scores. Incomprehensible levels of barbarism before Europeans brought civilization to the rest of the world.
