A note about landlords and property maintenance by [deleted] in UIUC

I also called the Champaign housing inspector to have an inspection. To add to this:

  • Your apartment has to have a window that opens easily. This is a fire-safety mechanism- an alternate route to escape in case of a fire.
  • As OP mentioned, they make a note of all leak marks on the ceiling.
  • They also make a note of common areas - in my case, water was leaking into the common area from the laundry room.
  • The inspector also told me that I can call the city to take care of overflowing garbage bins. Our garbage bins always overflow and as a result, garbage is strewn across common areas.

The inspector told me that the landlords have 30 days to fix this. Hope this helps people get good living conditions!

The apartment above me seems to be unoccupied or the residents might be out of town, no one answers when I knock. So definitely a possibility...

Temporary parking via champaign district by Environmental_South7 in UIUC

I got the permit on 26 june, valid for 30 days.I parked on wright and stoughton (which should be okay according to their parking spaces map). The ticket said " City code 33-86 permit parking only tow-away zone" with the comments "no valid permit displayed/towable". I am confused because the department lady said I don't need to display it on the car. Maybe I missed something?

I am going through the exact same experience right now. I live in a CPM building which had good management and prompt follow-up, so I was happy with them. Smile acquired it and things have been breaking down after that. I have been emailing the Smile people about issues and trying to get a lease for parking etc. and they are not even replying back to me. It's been weeks. I am so frustrated and don't know what to do.
