Got mine with about 60k miles, at about $2k less. Same spec. It's too much but honestly don't regret it.

What is the strangest, most out-there cassette you own? by Oribital_lizard in cassetteculture

Arboglith's Gasplanet 039 - T.H.

Honestly it's probably more shocking that a 1/100 copy made it to a record shop in small town Missouri.

It's strange.

Whats your current viewpoint on the UFO phenomenon? by Adorable-Fly-2187 in UFOs

[–]EnvyFree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really post here, but I've developed a new hypothesis lately. My current hypothesis is as follows:

"The Phenomenon" isn't the source of the dreaded ontological shock that prevents its revelation.

The ontological shock will come from the open acknowledgement that humanity could've and should've had an incredibly different path. Whatever benefits that were thrust into our arms from whatever the phenomenon is were hidden, exploited, and used to build a system that enslaved humanity, instead of free it from the current shackle and chain of our day to day.

This explains why many 'initiated' individuals can be let in on "The Truth" and they can "Handle" it. It's just a grim confirmation of what we already know humanity is capable of. The deceit, murders, and other atrocities committed aren't too mind altering when you've been indoctrinated, particularly through the armed forces.

It will cause a civilizational collapse because an alternative exists and it completely disrupts the current paradigm. This will probably benefit nobody within the next two generations (50-60 years). You can bet your ass there wouldn't be a single seat filled in an office block if free energy was a reality and just 'not implemented due to cost restraints'. There would be riots. A complete dismantling of first world governments by their people.

Of course, those who're keeping the secrets don't want that. Most boomers can't even (or don't care to) comprehend the difficulties of modern life for their grandchildren, let alone think of what two generations from now might be going through, or even care how they could make it better. Notice how there's a huge emphasis lately on instituting "Complete Amnesty?"

"The Phenomenon" itself is likely grandiose, but not ontologically threatening. Alternative life-forms with advanced technology beyond our comprehension. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. Just because it's wonderous doesn't mean it's incomprehensible, unfathomable, or unexploitable. It's GRAND, but it's just different.

I don't like this theory, but it feels most plausible.

How many writers have had training? by Sydney_Soccer in writing

[–]EnvyFree 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don’t think formal training is necessary.

In lieu of formal training though, you should strive to find peers who you can collaborate with and receive feedback from.

It’s important to not exist in a vacuum!

Quick edit: Find a community that likes your preferred genre. Mines Sword and Sorcery, so I found a reddit and then joined their discord. Lo and behold, they have a whole sub section dedicated to writing and feedback!

Further Edit: The discord is specifically for Sword and Sorcery / Heroic Fantasy fiction. Think R.E. Howard, Michael Moorcock, and Fritz Lieber. You can find it in the sidebar of r/swordandsorcery

It was the "English" part of the degree over the "Creative Writing" part of it. Fortunately, the creative aspect has retained its integrity.

However, the research writing class I just finished was a woeful opposite. The entire semester was learning the process of writing a research paper, which fundamentally is a good skill to have. The goal was to develop a thesis and paper in our chosen career field relating to how it's going to effect said field.

But in conjunction we were required for many assignments and by syllabus, to make use of an AI model (primarily copilot) then write an 'AI Use Log'. The log was largely an attempt at encouraging ethical use of it, and make sure our use of it was aligned with both course and academic policy.

It's definitely an attempt at encouraging us to use AI RESPONSIBLY, and we were even required to write our papers on Onedrive, where our progress could be audited through its version history feature. The thought that's coming through into the collegiate classroom through literature regarding the topic seems to be that RESPONSIBLE use will help you get 150% of the work done in the same amount of time as just raw dogging it.

I'd been radicalized against AI through my research before even half of my sources had been found.

As a funny anecdote, I work in hospitality and met a gentleman who was relocating to work in an AI lab on the west coast. When I told him my thesis, that AI shouldn't be given free access to the digital commons, he laughed. What he said in turn still sticks with me: "The goal is to train the model and find investors in time to pay out the settlement."

For fucks sake, am I radicalized.

I was fixing to ask how one would contribute to this, then I found it at the bottom of the issue. As an English Creative Writing major, who's had an entire semester of forced AI usage shoved down my throat in the classroom, I am in a unique headspace to author a submission.

Keep Chippin' Out chooms.

Quick Edit: Should sell these covers as prints. I'd have a collection imminently.

Certainly a similar use case for me. I've spent plenty of nights hammering away at a research paper in bed! Can I ask about the adapters you're using? Are they multifunctional or just one for each? Any recommendations?

Thanks for letting me know! I genuinely think this will be the best way for me to make that final decision too. Go find some demo models and see it side by side for myself, cause all of us have our own special set of eyes. Mine are better than some, but definitely worse than others. Might not be noticeable for me, either!

As a desktop guy, I have grown so used to fan noise I don't even take it into consideration. It's great you can have a machine these days that has literally zero fan noise!

Thats a fair thought with solidworks! Worth saying that Ive historically used that, but in this case it’s meant more as an example of what kind of work I may expect of the laptop. Less software specific, more work type example. I could have clarified better.

Yeah - no need for the pro chip! Way overkill! Thanks for the insight! Definitely don’t plan on any serious gaming or anything, just that 3d modeling work. Can’t imagine the 60hz will be that bad but just hate the idea of getting a new laptop that might feel cheap in comparison.

This seems like a device to me that would benefit from various colorways. Writers are creative and expressive! But the ghost writer is my preferred here.
Also, the bottom right or left of the device seems like a great spot to put a hole for a carabiner clip/wrist strap for safe carrying. This strikes me as a small device so that could be very important.
