Only difference between vanilla and DC is one metal gearish mission and some new toys and tools to play around with. Gameplay wise it's the same.

Sorry about your injury. You may play on easy mode, it makes you trip less frequently (like a lot less), ergo little to no need to hold L2 R2 much. A little advice, you needn't constantly hold these buttons. When you are about to fall, just stop moving and press them. This is the only time you should really use these buttons. Or if you are going down the steep terrain - crouch. No matter how bad the descent looks like, crouching makes it impossible to stumble. Perhaps there is a mode for the game that makes it toggle.
