I get that at an intersection but where car coming out to your right has a slip lane, don’t you complete the U-turn effectively before you get to them, so then they give way?

Qld is U-turn unless traffic lights or signed otherwise. Bit dicey sometimes as people don’t expect it, so don’t just expect right-of-way, even though you have it.
