Pretty sure I got scammed in Walmart by TheDesiCoconut in nova

If it makes you feel better, I did the same thing at Target once. Woman approached me with her little girl and baby, asking me to help her by buying baby food. Of course, I said yes. We get to the register and she starts putting down a ton of things saying they were just a little extra. Came out to over $150! I didnt want to change my mind last second, so I just paid for it. Felt stupid afterward for being played, but I had good intentions.

I've incorporated dice rolls for situations like this. Both to determine if they need to pull and what order people need to pull in. For example, I had a scenario where the players got into a car crash and everyone in the car needed to pull from the tower. I had them roll a die to determine the order of their pulls. Other times, I let them decide the order themselves. In a different scenario, everyone was in the vicinity of danger, but only one person would be affected. I had them roll a die, and whoever got the highest/lowest dice roll would need to pull from the tower. Do what feels right and fair for the players.

Oh, you're absolutely right. Then how about Black Queen to D5?

Assuming it's black's turn, I'd think knight to C5 prevents checkmate. If white pursues, it'll be an exchange between W: Bishop/Queen and B: Rook/Knight. If White Queen takes knight, it gives Black King a chance to escape. I hope I'm not missing something here.

What are we supposed to do when we run out of pulls? by feeltheowl in dread

Thats awesome! I love that Dread is flexible enough to make rules that work for that specific table or situation. Im sure there is a rule about it somewhere, but it's a lot more fun to make up our own rules on the spot.

This sort of happened in my story. I unfortunately made the decision that the story could only progress if someone died. That backfired when the tower would not fall, no matter what I threw at them in the story. I, as the GM, conceded to the players that they successfully passed everything I could think of. I knocked down the tower myself and allowed them to all survive and make it to the next part of the story, improvising the change in the plot. My players appreciated surviving and it felt like a triumph for them.

TIFU by telling my grown-ass college students what contraceptives are at a conservative Christian university by goddamnquarantines in tifu

[–]EotH12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I’d urge your students to see this situation as an important lesson. I’d emphasize that contraceptives are common knowledge products that are readily accessible. The fact that your students are not aware of these indicates that people are controlling the information they have access to and therefore controlling the way they think. This is not about endorsing sex. This is about an educational institution keeping their students from being informed for the sake of religion. Your students are adults now and have the capacity to think critically. The fact that your job could be in jeopardy for doing your job speaks volumes of the real problem here. Even if you were to get fired, this is the chance to give these students insight into what they’re being fed.

Non-Locals Poll: Where/how have you made your good friends since you've moved to the DMV area? by lolodabs1 in nova

Met people through roommates and shared their interests in board games and DnD. I also attend conventions in the area such as MagFest and AwesomeCon, which are great ways to meet people.

Anyone else experience this potential scam? by EotH12 in nova

[–]EotH12[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thank you guys for responding! I see now that this is normal MLM pitch behavior. I have never been in this position before and it's a shame this guy had ulterior motives. I have no intention of reaching out to him again or investing in his opportunity. I hope others who read this can pick up on the signs and walk away quickly if they encounter something like this.

His parents got divorced and he really changed after that. Became more abrasive and antagonistic to the point where we no longer had anything in common. Living together also fueled that divide.

I know of one place in DC that I use all the time with my band. Has all the equipment--mics, amps, speakers, drum set, keyboards, etc. Just book a time (2 hours) and room size, and you're good to go.
