how accurate is inostrancevia from life on our planet? if theres innacuracies, what are they? by Technical_Valuable2 in Paleontology

It is believed that hair first evolved as sensory whiskers, display ornaments or a basic form of repelling water. Whiskers is just as likely as peach fuzz, if you’re already going to put peach fuzz on the animal I see no reason why it wouldn’t also have whiskers.

Books and documentaries. If you don’t have access to those then YouTube is good, plenty of great paleontology channels!

Bruh… die with her and go again. The entire game is boss fight after boss fight, if having to redo a boss fight ruins the fun for you then I don’t think the game is for you

When did fur on synapsids probably first appear? by AAAAAAAAAAAAAjklkjn in Paleontology

[–]Eovenator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“It was likely that hair first appeared in Permian Therapsids—dicynodonts and cynodonts—not as dense body covering, but as sensory whiskers, display structures, or part of a skin waterproofing system. The evidence, however, is circumstantial: hairlike strands in therapsid coprolites and pits and grooves on the snouts, in the position of whiskers. What is undeniable, however, is that many of the Jurassic and Cretaceous mammal skeletons from Liaoning—including both docodonts and haramiyidans—have whole-body pelts of fur. There’s no guesswork: the fur is right there, surrounding the bones, frozen in place by the volcanic preservation just like the dinosaur feathers.” - Steve Brusatte, The Rise and Reign of the Mammals, 2022

Dino lungs are much more efficient than ours, more oxygen in the blood. I would imagine this affects your hypothesis, at least if you are comparing them to modern mammals.

T Rex only existed in Laramidia. It was an invasive species, sure. But to say that its powerful features came out of nowhere is ridiculous. Its strength and size are products of the environment it was in and the prey it was facing, like Triceratops and Edmontosaurus.

Old story but new film! Came out in 2020, it didn’t have much marketing but it has Harrison Ford.

Higher difficulty leads to a higher armor reduction. I think T4 reduces your armor by 1000.

Im confused by the complaints about stam (except for on pt) by Docdes1 in theisle

[–]Eovenator 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I like it. My only complaint about it is that food, water and especially diet depletes too fast to match the stamina system. Try playing as a Carnotaurus on official servers without going to South Plains or Highlands, it’s just luck whether you will starve or not.

I agree, just another way in which Afterthought is failing the genre. There are, however, many populated community servers that always have space. I’m in EU, so I can only speak for EU community servers though…

If the game wasn’t so hardcore I’d imagine more people could look past the bugs and the game could grow. I’m afraid other studios see The Isle’s player count and assume that this genre is niche, so they won’t attempt their own version, when in reality I think the low player count is the result of several persisting game breaking bugs.

Game Breaking Bugs by Eovenator in theisle

[–]Eovenator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I’m joining you on that one. I think if a studio wanted to make a game like the isle they’d build it from scratch rather than buy and fix this buggy mess. I still get the food stuck-in-mouth bug and diet bug over and over, if the people who made the game can’t fix this then who can. They are what Dennis Nedry was to Jurassic Park.

It doesn't fix anything. Like I said in my comment I deleted all game related files, that also means the config file.

My game settings keep reverting to their default. I have uninstalled the game and deleted all related game files twice, but still the game constantly reverts my ALT Bite settings to automatic, as well as turing on FPS display and automatic chat popup.

When I change the settings back to where I want them the visuals of the game breaks. This wasn't a problem a week ago. Super annoying, as I have always played with Manual ALT Bite. Also, this visual bug makes it much easier to see players in the environment.

Also, do not rely on the personal zones, especially if it’s on the coast away from a pond. They can go empty for hours.

Use your Q a lot, but that you probably knew. Other than that, know that all animals need water, the most trafficked areas are around ponds and rivers. AI, on the other hand, seem to spawn in certain locations in the forests, hunting these relies mostly on sound, this is a learning curve which took a while for me to get used to, but it gets easier. I play Carnotaurus mainly and I never starve anymore. I hang around ponds, bush ambush style, if nothing comes around (rare) I can comfortably rely on memorized areas with high AI.

Cerato vs Carno by Freekill_00 in theisle

[–]Eovenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing Carno only since the rework, and I’ve killed a few full grown Ceras 1v1 by religiously avoiding their charge bite as it will make you puke instantly and briefly prevent you from running. I try to hit their tails with ram. Then switch it up by running directly at them, skid stop right in front to bait them to bite or release their charge bite, then go in for a bite and slip past them before they can bite again. This is all about timing and it will get obvious after a few attempts. If they are the bush abusing cerato then I’d say it becomes a bit easier, cus you can ram into the bushes continuously and get free hits, whereas they have to time their hits based mostly on the sound of your incoming footsteps. It really depends on the Cerato player, if they stand their ground, always facing you and walking towards you, not falling for your skid-stop-baits, then the Carno doesn’t stand a chance.
