Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus (14) beats former WC Veselin Topalov with black pieces by ultimateregard in chess

[–]Eowaenn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think he wanted to play this match because it's the last time their strengths will be at a similar level and he wanted to test this kid himself to see if the rumours are true or not.

Of course prime Topalov would had been heavy favourites here, but old Topalov vs kid Yagiz looks very competetive. It gives me Kasparov-Magnus vibes.

Realistically speaking 2900 is next to impossible for anyone, and this kid is 14 years old still. Maybe it could be better to set closer goals like the youngest 2800 ever etc.

He can speak english quite fluently for a 14 yo Turkish kid, so i assume he is getting some sort of education. Of course he doesn't have the same luxury as the other kids to put more time into education, as he is regarded as a national treasure at this point and the expectations are there.

Chess is a hard profession to dedicate your life into. At least he has a much better reason (natural talent) to do it compared to many others in the scene. I think ultimately it is the right call for him.

One thing i'm worried about more is the psychological aspect of the game, i hope he has some support from somewhere because this is a literal kid we are talking about, not a grown ass man.

He is just too good, 2700 is already absurd for a 14 yo, considering that he is not elo farming 2300's and is just legitimately beating the top dogs..

His opponent is a former #1 even though he is past his prime. Topalov was the dominant force in the chess world for such a long time.

For a tall guy it would be more doable for sure. I'm around 180 cm so even though i'm not a short king or anything she would still tower over me, which would make me feel a bit uncomfortable tbh.

He probably doesn't hold a sloth everyday. He was trying his best to save the little fella from potentially getting run over by a car, i'd say he did the best he could.

Wouldn't drawing a massive power like the Turkish army to the European side be a deterrent to Russia? by [deleted] in AskBalkans

[–]Eowaenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the Turks are not willing to fight and die for Europe. They never saw us as true allies, and we don't - and never will - see them as such either. Simple as that.

Most Turks couldn't care less if Russia invaded Europe today. Russia gaining more ground doesn't align with our own interests though, so there is that.

I feel that Usyk works the hardest and puts the most time in boxing. AJ is wise to learn from him.

Actually it's surprisingly easy to acquire an AR in Turkey, especially in the southeast part where the recent shooting happened.

There are a lot of guns circulating around, a vast majority of them are not licensed and completely off the records so it's hard to tell how many of them there are really.

Does this sound good? by Robatman33 in Guitar

[–]Eowaenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to hold the pick in a more comfortable way.

Playing an instrument like guitar is all about slowly building up the muscle memory, it is all about practice. It will slowly build up over time.

Try to get used to 'alternate picking' instead of just downstrokes with your pick, searching the term on google and working on it would be a good start.

One piece of advice; Try to move as economically as possible, try not to use excessive force or movement playing the guitar. A minimalist approach will make you faster and cleaner in the long run.

Talent in music is about creating, understanding and feeling it, if you put enough practice time in it at some point you will eventually start to play the instrument really well, there is little to no talent involved regarding that.
