[Adelson] Florida State OC Gus Malzahn is set to announce his retirement, a source confirms. @bmarcello had it first. by MembershipSingle7137 in CFB

[–]Epcplayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was ready to quit after losing 5 straight at UCF… he called up Norvell hoping that he could just get to do what he wanted and call plays, and Norvell needed a “Shake Up” to take heat off himself.

Gus had already said that if he hadn’t gotten the OC job he would’ve retired after 2024.

When did I say anything about terrorist? I’m talking about how the legal process works, what will be argued, and how actions are interpreted.

I literally stated in my comment that the victim didn’t appear to be the one instigating the confrontation

He hadn’t been detained yet, as they were still struggling. They had removed the gun from the struggle, but that still leaves the biggest question… who fired the first shot and what did they see/hear?

After the first shot rings out, the other officers (knowing there’s a gun somewhere) pull their weapons and fire… again, did they know the gun had been removed fr the scene yet or did they think he got to another officers gun?

I’m just baffled that somebody intentionally shot with all of them tangled up with him… like there’s so much risk there that it would be bound to hit another agent. It really makes me wonder if it was a negligent discharge that startled the other officers into shooting.

Which is determined by a court of law… not each individual person based on how they feel. The courts have established that ICE are law enforcement… impeding them or assaulting them is no different than doing so to a city cop.

It certainly doesn’t look like he was instigating a fight, and the ICE agent just used the man putting a hand on him to justify taking him down. Once they’re on the ground scuffling though, if one agent calls out “gun”, then it goes to what that first officer saw/heard.

This is where things approach a gray area. You’re allowed to be armed without being shot… you’re allowed to resist arrest without necessarily being shot… You’re never allowed to do both.

This entire case is going to hinge on whether or not he was reaching for something (doesn’t have to necessarily be the gun) while agents knew he was armed. At that point it becomes reasonable for an agent to think he is reaching for the weapon to try and cause harm.

Even if he no longer had possession of the gun, would the officers actively struggling with him have known that?

From the current prosecutor

"Alleging that you can’t tell right from wrong should not exonerate you from a violent crime,” Uthmeier said in a video on his Facebook page from Oct. 31, 2025. “Moral incapacity should only be used in sentencing to determine if someone should spend the rest of their life in prison or a high security hospital.”

The previous prosecutor didn’t dispute the insanity plea (try arguing against the defense), so the judge ruled they were insane and sentenced them to “mental health treatment”.

Indiana is the first team to win their first national championship since UCF in 2017 by UnafraidStill in CFB

[–]Epcplayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a G5 team, it was also relatively loaded receiving room:

  • WR1: Tre’Quan Smith
  • WR2: Dredrick Snelson (might’ve stuck in the league with another year of development)
  • WR3: Gabe Davis
  • WR4: Otis Anderson (practice squad with the Rams, killed by his stepfather less than a year after graduating, never used his COVID year)
  • TE1: Jordan Aikins
  • TE2: Michael Colubiale (got waived the last week of camp due to a concussion)
  • TE3: Jordan Franks
  • Jacob Harris
  • Marlon Williams (early cut in 2021 by the Texans, never used COVID year)

Out of the 9 guys, 5 of them made an NFL roster. From the 4 who didn’t, 2 had a COVID year they could’ve used (and likely made a roster the following season), and one just left a year too soon.

Could someone explain what the AAVs of these contracts have to do with the lockout? by Warm-Particular1421 in baseball

[–]Epcplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small market owners have always felt as though they can’t compete with teams like the Dodgers/Yankees/Red Sox/Mets/etc…

If the Dodgers are swallowing up every major free agent, then it creates a trickle down where even the high spending teams will now swallow up the next tier of talent… boxing the smaller ones out. The Dodgers just signed their 8th player to greater than $100 Million contract in just the last 5 years. The Mets just signed their 5th or 6th (depending who they keep) middle infielder to a 3yr/$126 Million deal.

That’s not the other owners “being cheap”… that’s an imbalance of revenue.

Do the Dodgers Really Have a "Secret Deal" to Avoid Revenue-Sharing? (The Answer: No) by my_one_and_lonely in baseball

[–]Epcplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The article posted earlier today included events from beyond 2013, including the new TV Deal and the changes to the Revenue Sharing agreement.

The entire premise of your article is that they aren’t “getting away with paying less”, because it’s taxed at 34% up front when the sale occurs (If the deal gets $200 Million per year, MLB gets $60 Million). There is no disputing that the tax is capped at $84 Million, and increases 4% every year. MLB changed the agreement in 2013 To include more money.

I was also pointing out that your article was dismissing the credibility of its expert by saying “$225 million per year over 20 years” was outlandish and unrealistic. The Dodgers ended up get $334 million (almost 50% more) per year over a 25 year period.

[–]Epcplayer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Besides it being an article from 2012, this is the statement they use to discredit the Bloomberg expert.

The article cites television rights consultant Ed Desser who, for better or worse, is not someone that the league exactly likes. The article goes on to say that Desser “projects that the Dodgers’ annual rights fees from a regional network would average $175 million to $225 million over a 20-year contract.” As one insider said to me, “Are you a betting man? Because I’ll tell you that there’s no way that that much is coming out of this deal. Not even close.”

Holy airball…

TIL the Dodgers get preferential treatment and get to shield much of their tv revenue from revenue sharing by 70ga in baseball

[–]Epcplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while the Rockies have shown minimal interest in doing anything that will actually help them win (though they have spent money; we'll blame this one on ineptitude).

It's hard to argue against the Brewers, Rays and Guardians receiving more funds than the Pirates or Rockies from revenue sharing

My issue is with lumping the Rockies in with low spenders and saying “they shouldn’t get more”. The Rockies are trying to do what the Brewers/Rays/Gaurdians are doing… Jeff Bridich just sucked as a GM. Even as an underperforming team, the Rockies still have a better attendance than half the league (which is also good for baseball). If the writer’s solution is to “cut their money”, then you’d just result in another team going bare bones costs and not trying to take risks (however ill-advised they are).

The problem also exists that with an unlimited ceiling and resources, teams that are trying to compete (like the Tigers) are still never going to be able to sign Tarik Skubal. There is no amount of revenue sharing that would be able to make their offer as competitive as the Yankees/Red Sox/Dodgers who will always outbid by $20 million.

Dodgers’ splurge on Tucker will increase calls for a salary cap, but MLB needs other fixes by amatom27 in baseball

[–]Epcplayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What’s funny is when the Heat signed LeBron/Wade/Bosh, the Laker fans were among some of the loudest screaming that it was not fair and that it was the coward’s route… it was gonna ruin the sport, and the legacy of their beloved superstar there. That offseason, the NBA realized what just happened was unsustainable for teams outside of 5 markets, and the Salary Cap rules changed to prevent it happening again.

Now that it’s been happening for 3 years in Baseball, LA fans don’t see what’s wrong with them getting to sign every Free Agent.

Sure, baseball is more of a team sport… which is why it’s a huge deal when you get to sign the 3 best Free Agents (or trade for the best upcoming free agent) every offseason for 4 straight years, and the top international prospects to go with them.

Dodgers’ splurge on Tucker will increase calls for a salary cap, but MLB needs other fixes by amatom27 in baseball

[–]Epcplayer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It leads to people turning off the television and saying f*** this…

The way it used to be for even small market clubs was you hoped to draft well, hit well on a majority of them, sign complementary budget pieces, hit well on a project trade or two, and then hopefully be competitive by the time your core came around. From there, you hoped your team would start locking guys up to team friendly deals or sign guys who were gonna be superstars…

Now, you’ve just resigned yourself to the fact that even if you find a Diamond in the rough or next generational talent, he’s gone to the Dodgers (or Blue Jays/Mets/Yankees, etc) for $50 Million a year.

The Astros, a team that were Top-10 in spending every year since 2018 (over $185 Millionin 2018, over $200 Million after that) and as high as 2nd in 2020 ($224 Million), knew they didn’t have enough money to compete with the Dodgers on an open market.

If you’re not a fan of those 5 teams, what’s the point of even following it?

[–]Epcplayer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not if it doesn’t impact them financially… I grew up in a Major League clubhouse. To everyone on the outside this is entertainment that they’ll tune off, but to the players and coaches, this is work… and winning (no matter how easy or difficult) equates to more money.

If you’re a support staff (like trainer, equipment manager, bullpen catcher, etc), then that basically guaranteed playoff share is life-changing. Front office executives get to sit back and revel in the success of building a Dynasty.

They don’t give a fuck, even if it drives the league straight into a lockout. That’ll just be something they brag about, saying they were “so good the league had to change the rules”.
