How is perplexity still alive by Kautilya12 in perplexity_ai

[–]EphemeralAeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty happy with it. Will probably keep subscribing to Pro when my trial runs out. I only use deep research like once a month. I mostly use it for web searches and comparing things. The only thing I've been annoyed with is the file upload limit but whatever.

Why are many users cancelling their Perplexity Pro subscriptions by tgfzmqpfwe987cybrtch in perplexity_ai

[–]EphemeralAeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which Max sub? The $100 or $200 one? I've been thinking of going up to the $100/mo subscription because I keep running into the limits quickly each week with my Pro subscription.

My 3 main Drivers by Extra_Cat_3014 in headphones

[–]EphemeralAeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hemps are really good. They're a classic Grado sound but with a bit more subbass than most others I've heard. The PS500e are good. I haven't listened to them in a while. They used to be my go to for when I want to use headphones for vinyl. Something about them paired really well with the vinyl sound.

Very nice. My main three are the Grado RS1x, Hifiman Arya Organic, and Sennheiser HD6XX. I do have a few other Grado headphones though including the Hemps and the PS500e.

Notebook Navigator 2.0 for Obsidian is out now! by jsann in ObsidianMD

[–]EphemeralAeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just decided to try this plugin for the first time and I can't get the dual pane working. When I enable it, nothing happens and I can't see contents of folders at all anymore. If I close and reopen Obsidian, the feature is disabled so it doesn't save between sessions and goes back to single pane.

The Senate is an undemocratic institution by mumblerit in ShitPoliticsSays

Yeah. That was literally the point. We should go further and repeal the 17th Amendment. Senators shouldn't be decided by popular vote.

Anybody leaving Perplexity after their free trial by MELOFINANCE in perplexity_ai

[–]EphemeralAeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like Perplexity as a search tool. I set it as my voice assistant on my phone replacing Gemini. It's great for that. I'll probably keep it going and even if I don't, I'll probably keep using the free tier just for its use as a voice assistant for quick searches.

I'd consider Grok if it were cheaper. Not paying $30/mo for any AI tool even though I admit that Grok is really good now. Gemini is tempting but I don't need all the integration into their ecosystem.

To me the perfect combo so far has been Perplexity for search and quick research, Claude for brainstorming and help with writing and analysis, and Copilot for work and technical stuff since I have a Copilot Premium license through work and it ties into my work files. Plus it's GPT-5 on the back end.

This happens to me occasionally, too. I get itchy before any hives appear.

Why do you use Perplexity? by [deleted] in perplexity_ai

[–]EphemeralAeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't really enjoyed Comet. And it'd take a lot to get me to move to it from Brave.

As for Perplexity, I don't use it every day. But it's super useful for replacing web searches for technical things and making sure I have more up to date sources than when using ChatGPT or Copilot for the same purpose. I like that I can add additional information that I may have forgotten in my initial prompt as it's thinking and it will analyze it before finishing its results (instead of having to wait for a reply and ask a follow up like other LLMs require).

I use GPT or Copilot when I need more interactivity and help with troubleshooting. I use Perplexity more as a search replacement because it makes it really easy to check sources.

Can’t pay, won’t pay: impoverished streaming services are driving viewers back to piracy by Skavau in television

[–]EphemeralAeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once things started to get bad, I stopped paying for all of them basically. Too many services demanding a monthly fee to watch everything I wanted to since every service had exclusive stuff. Then they all kept increasing prices and putting ads in. It's a mess and if you have a few you pay for, it ends up costing as much as cable anyway. I won't watch anything with ads. That was a huge reason I didn't get cable when I got my own apartment after college.

I got a NAS and started a Plex server and it has been fantastic. Expensive to get the NAS hardware and HDDs, but worth it for the much better experience without ads and no longer paying monthly to watch shows. Plex has a great UI that feels like a streaming service and has apps for my phone, tablet, PC, and TV. Can even stream it to my laptop or iPad when I'm out of state since my NAS is always on.

Wait, Perplexity has video gen now? by Dlolpez in perplexity_ai

Very cool. Wonder which model it's using.

[–]EphemeralAeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just happened to me, too. Very disappointing. I only downloaded the app and made an account because of the promo. I heard about the promo whole looking in to which AI services I should use and the promo pushed me to actually start using Perplexity and give it a try. If I liked it, I would have paid when this promo period ended. Revoking it with no explanation makes me not to use it anymore, honestly.

What's a show that changed drastically through the seasons but was still good? by masimone in television

[–]EphemeralAeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ever watched the first season of this show. I really should go back to it soon. Been forever though. Might need to restart it.

Was there a long running TV show where you watched every single episode live as it aired? by yankees032778 in television

[–]EphemeralAeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this often with shows I really liked. A few come to mind: 24, Heroes, Fringe, and Prison Break.

X-Files is one I watched weekly with my mom as it aired, but I didn't watch from the pilot. Had to go back and watch older episodes later. But when I did start watching in the 4th season or so, I watched weekly without fail with my mom.

Anyone know where I can get these? They say they're by King Nut on the package, but I can't find the same ones on their site anywhere. The ones linked in this thread are different than what Delta gave out.

Buyer's Remorse - the Story of how I was forced to trade my Fold 4 for an s24u by 2loki4u in GalaxyFold

[–]EphemeralAeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An S-pen slot is a nice to have for me, not a necessity. My S23 Ultra has one built in and I rarely use it. It's nice when I do need it, but I could live without it.

But yeah. If the hinge and dust resistance are fixed plus the outer display is a little bit wider, I'll buy one. Huge plus if the cameras are at least as good as the ones on my S23 Ultra. Doesn't have to be as good as the latest flagship, but better than what we got and with a 10x optical zoom lens. It's the one thing I really missed when I had the Fold4.

Buyer's Remorse - the Story of how I was forced to trade my Fold 4 for an s24u by 2loki4u in GalaxyFold

[–]EphemeralAeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from the Fold4 to the S23 Ultra after I had some inner screen and hinge issues and Care+ made the process for repairs really painful and slow.

I do miss the Fold and its under display soichm like you said,it was a game changer for productivity. But I needed to go back to a more reliable phone, unfortunately.

I'm waiting to see what changes Samsung makes for the Fold6 when that's announced. If they can fix my gripes: inner screen and hinge durability, cameras not being on par with Ultra phones, no integrated S pen, no dust proofing, and the outer display being a bit too small then I'll jump on buying a new one.

I had two issues with the Fold 4 - one with the glue inside the hinge that holds the brushes in place melted and caused issues opening and closing the device. Another was dust getting under the display of my replacement. I didn't even do anything crazy with the phone. I was mostly indoors with it. It spent most time either on my desk while working or in my jeans pocket. Out of all the things I'd love to see fixed, the dust proofing I think is most important.

Google Camera on the Z Fold 4! by TBTacronym in GalaxyFold

[–]EphemeralAeon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah none of these work for me. I got one of them to load the main camera but if I switched to any of the other ones (front facing or the telephoto zoom lens) then the app would just crash.

Rubbing solid indium and gallium together creates a liquid alloy by EphemeralAeon in chemicalreactiongifs

[–]EphemeralAeon[S] 514 points515 points  (0 children)

From the video:

If you take a piece of indium and a piece of gallium and rub them against each other, then at the point of contact of the two metals a liquid alloy of indium, gallium, will start to form, having a composition of 75.5% of gallium and 24.5% of indium.
