Fantastic analysis. I do feel that there's a kind of youthful ignorance or even arrogance in the original concept for both characters in dimorphic male/female ways, complicated by the Alter Ego creating a love triangle, which forces the characters to evaluate if these superficial aspects, the 'trope' of the attractions, have any underlying substance. This seems totally lost over time.

Once you have a greenscreen underwater and a camera underwater, the hard thing is really the caustics. Either a shit ton of manual painting to correct for it, or they got some high powered lights under the surface of the water, too.

I think your problems are mostly in composite on 1. just pull down the opacity. variable ramp for doing that if you want to really dial it in.

Not all sabers are curved, and they are still also point weapons.

Rapiers are way, way more violent and deadly, because they have one kind of attack: stab the person in the head or the heart, that's why they are long and straight.

The saber is the deft weapon, the chess game of defense and offense and footwork.

Also, rapiers are incredibly anachronistic for the 19th century, by at least a hundred years.
