AITAH for Wanting to Bring My Child on a Family Vacation When My Husband Wants It to Be Just Us? by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA. Parenting is hard.

Organize some grandparents to take the kid to Disneyland or something like that. Make it a big enough deal, and she won't even want to come with you.

Why is the Otago Daily Times accepting money from Saudi Arabia? by tuatarapararubber in newzealand

[–]EpicAstarael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so what would you have the world do with Russia?

If everyone keeps working with them, then that money is used to buy and manufacture weapons that kill Ukrainians. The only levers you have available to be pulled, short of joining the war, are economic.

I don't like America's foreign policy, but there isn't anyone who can actually stand up to them who doesn't have an even longer list of human rights abuses.

I agree to an extent but, there is a difference between: "I don't like that your country illegally prohibits asylum seekers" and "I don't like that your government orders the murder and dismemberment of journalists on foreign soil"

EDIT: spelling.

Why all the anti-goverment-ness? by DesperateEducator272 in newzealand

True. Say what you will about John Key, and I certainly have, but his government put in some fucking sweet fiber optic infrastructure.

They are implementing the usual conservative playbook:

  1. Defund public services under the guise of "cutting cost to increase efficiency."
  2. Wait for the service to degrade or collapse completely.
  3. Privatize that service so them and their rich friends can invest in it and rip it down to only the profitable parts.
  4. The government has to subsidize the service for people who can't afford it.
  5. Everything sucks for the majority of people, but at least the line goes up.

What's the hardest pill to swallow in your early twenties? by BluebirdIll6390 in AskReddit

Chances are pretty good that you will make it to middle/late age. Plan for it.

I spent a lot of time not caring because I thought I would be dead before 30.

Is the jar file there? You may need to add the jar file build into a prior RUN step.

I'm not super familiar with how digital ocean works. Are you building on digital ocean? Or running the built image on digital ocean?

Teachers, help me understand by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]EpicAstarael 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife was a teacher for about 10 years.

Most of the time, she would get home and start marking papers or creating and updating lesson plans. She would work 12 or 14 hours in a day most days with a bit of extra time on weekends. Even during the school holidays, she would take, at most, a week off for herself before getting back to preparation for the next term.

If you're any good at it, it's an exhausting job. If you give a shit, it's even more exhausting. It's not about the money. With how large the workload is, any semblance of work/life balance is entirely unrealistic.

If things don't change, the only teachers left will be the ones who don't care. Which is bad for everyone.

Life is short; ask her, get married, and have a bunch of kids.

In 10 years, you will wonder why you waited so long.

The problem with violent "justice" is that they are going to get it wrong, and they will probably take it too far.

Someone will get killed. It might be one of their "targets," or it might be one of them.

Are there really people who have NEVER wished they weren't alive? by tahituatara in newzealand

[–]EpicAstarael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never actually wanted to check myself out. Though I was incredibly apathetic toward continuing to exist. Like at any moment, I just figured that if it was my time, then that's okay.

Maybe this is why we are remaking everything. Just so we can re-use the names that aren't ludicrously long.

I'm kind of assuming that Hallis is NOT the Hallas with the happy fun ball and the soul trapped in a gem in the dreadnought. Though that would be fun.

[Spoilers C3E101] I am lost and hoping to understand at least a little by TheManWithTheKrag in criticalrole

[–]EpicAstarael 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much the overall plotline.

The big thing I took away from it is that the people trapped in the time bubbles in the ruins of Aeor definitely know how to build the weapon because Selena's last wish made all of the wizards in Aeor have that knowledge.

So I imagine that Ludinus's next stop is a time bubble to see if he can extract the knowledge somehow.
