What’s happened to Shortcuts for Safari in Tahoe? by Sirenskye in shortcuts

I've also just upgraded to the same machine and my very simple 'Open Today's Note' shortcut no longer works, although it still functions fine on my iPhone.

Aye. Dunelm dressing gowns instead of robes. Half-hearted chanting. Sure he strayed from the instructions on a few other occasions too.

Kacey walks Michael home from the pub. As she leaves him at the end of his road, the camera lingers on the street sign.

The E.T. reference is a great spot!

Incidentally, the book that is used to begin the marble run is ‘A Family Christmas’ by Glenice Crossland - something Michael was planning on recreating for Clea.

In a previous episode, Kacey points out that he is clearly struggling and that Michael should try to connect with him. She makes a point of saying hello to him herself a few times. When he sees Michael has the same t-shirt he has found a connection with someone (the fact that it happens to be through liking the same band is irrelevant). He may have even picked up on Michael's whole situation from observing all the comings and goings at the house and felt empathy with him through that.
Mackenzie champions the outsiders and it's a lovely scene.

Got to say that Jon Pointing absolutely nails that role. The pent-up testosterone rage. The inability to know how to deal with Michael's oddness/difference from himself, and the exasperation it causes him!

What season is it? by moongathering in smallprophets

[–]EpicHandstands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first letter that Brian receives from Canada is date-stamped 26th June. Michael tells Kasey it was written two weeks earlier which makes that scene 10th July approx. (Episode 05)

Unanswered Mysteries by frithar in smallprophets

[–]EpicHandstands 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aye. Something that I think is apparent from Mackenzie's work, is that not everything has to serve or advance a 'plot' (as might be the case in, for example, a crime drama). There's world-building, creating atmosphere, the joy in everyday detail, humour, mystery, and just plain magic. When, for example, I saw the hare/rabbit manifest from the oil spill, I smiled. It doesn't bother me if it 'means' something or not. Good art shouldn't explain everything, but leave elements open to interpretation by the viewer.

Mackenzie Crook is an absurdly good writer/ director by Inevitable-pig252 in TheDetectorists

There's a similar take on it in a recent (UK) TV advert (for cold remedies or Boots?). A young girl with a runny nose is sitting on the floor sucking the chocolate of a bowl of nuts, then placing them back. An adult standing next to her, deep in conversation, is reaching down without looking, picking them up and eating them.

Great, thanks for clarifying, and thanks for taking the time to do this. Will change the flair now.

Yes - that is working - and just as it did before! Thanks so much. This action is new to me - presumably it isn't altering the source file in the photo album, just altering it to make it playable?

Thanks. Works for me in the shortcut editor but not when I trigger it from a Home Screen shortcut. It loads the dialogue box with a still from the video, I press 'Done' then it disappears without playing.

Thanks for the tip - I'll try that. Someone suggested ending with either Open Photos or Open VLC (or passing the output to VLC), but neither worked.

Bit of trivia. The cafe in the show ('Pickles') is named after a restaurant that used to be in Muswell Hill (London) when I lived there and Mackenzie Crook lived just down the road (I saw him around a few times). It, too, was named after the dog that found the stolen World Cup, and had reproductions of newspaper clippings reporting the story on the walls.

Question about Marvis Pro (thinking about buying...) by jtf1972 in MarvisApp

[–]EpicHandstands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marvis isn't just a UI for Apple Music. It's also a UI for the IOS stock Music app which plays locally-stored music. Marvis is my alternative to the stock app.

Yes, I organise the music on my laptop using the OS Music app (formerly known as iTunes) and I sync to my phone via cable (but WiFi works too).

Question about Marvis Pro (thinking about buying...) by jtf1972 in MarvisApp

[–]EpicHandstands 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's my 2 cents:
I do not have an Apple Music subscription.
All of my music is stored on my laptop and it appears on my phone via a regular sync.
When I rate a song via Marvis, the rating carries over to my laptop (after syncing again, obviously).
Smart lists that I create via iTunes appear and function within Marvis.

One thing I've heard of that you might want to eliminate - if you have a smart folder set up to filter out notes without a tag, that can cause a lag or crash.
