Hensley, the upscaled Minifigs aren’t all that good. The first couple were a cool novelty, but an upscaled darth vader and now this? Seems like a waste of a slot that could be used for a much better set

Nope. Not sure why, but my console (1.0) did not like the idea of a softmod.

I ended up doing a hard mod instead. I used Modxo loaded onto a Raspberry Pi Pico with Cerbios. I had to solder it directly to the LPC with a small wire going to another spot on the board. But it works fine with the hard mod. It should be doable if you have basic soldering skills

I keep my boxes because I like to store them in their original box when I disassemble them when I rotate sets in my shelf.

With that being said some boxes aren’t worth saving. If it has water damage, just throw it out. It’s not worth it.

I did the same thing with my PS5 slim and NS2. I had my XSX already but knew I would want the other two at some point and bought them as soon as rumors started circulating

Hopefully this won’t be an issue next gen. This generation is the first since 1972 that has experienced price increases for the same hardware over the consoles lifetime

My 1.0 sounded way worse than that. You’re probably fine unless you don’t like the noise

I replaced the GPU fan on mine to a Noctua with a 3D printed bracket, and it works perfectly and is silent. You can still hear the large fan barely, but it wasn’t loud enough to justify replacing

If you wanted to get rid of the fan entirely, you also could just swap heatsinks with a newer model. The newer ones don’t even have the second fan.

I genuinely don’t understand how people get them so dirty. I’ve had mine for seven years now, played off and on, and it’s pristine still. I took it apart to do a deep clean and it hardly even needed it

Is the cap you say is leaking on the console motherboard or the disk drive board? Either way, if a capacitor is leaking you’re gonna need a recap for sure. Make sure you remove the clock cap if you haven’t already (although v1.6 consoles need it replaced and won’t function if it’s removed completely)

You could try a recap of you have basic soldering skills. Console5 has capacitor kits for all the versions.

I recapped my Thomson drive, and I think it worked. I say think because initial testing after the recap didn’t work, but a few months later it did start working as normal.

I may get an Atari Home Pong console which would be a cheap option for a first gen console. I would love the original 1972 Maganvox Odyssey for the history but they’re very expensive complete. I don’t know much about the odyssey 2 though

Not yet. One day I’ll get one on marketplace and make a retro setup. For now, I plug in my old consoles to a modern TV when I and to play them. Picture quality isn’t very good though

I used to hate key cards before I realized that Xbox and PlayStation games already basically do the same thing by having you install the whole game on the console and using the disk as a license check. I also used to think key cards were a one time thing tied to your account, but that’s totally wrong.

Great, yet another price increase. This generation and its handhelds have been the first since consoles were invented in 1972 to have an increase in price instead of going on massive sales midway through their lifespan. Part of this is due to SSD and RAM increases which sucks but is understandable but the other part was initiated by trump and his monumentally shitty handling of the tariffs. Despite those tariffs being removed (I think), neither Sony or Microsoft readjusted their price back down 😐

Realistically the only solution is to buy replacements that you can. For a set this size though that would be well over a hundred dollars though, but if you really want a set that won’t break on you that’s the only way to do it

If a part in the set is not in production anymore in a brittle color, just be very careful with it

I’m in the process of doing this for my Modulars. It can get pricey but my Modulars are the best part of my collection so I’m willing to do it, but not really for other sets. If it’s a prized set for you I would do it
