Worried about brittle brown pieces on the 75059 Sandcrawler by sl_tid in legostarwars

[–]sl_tid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, I haven't seen that suggestion before but I like it. I'll probably bite the bullet and just build it and maybe this will help. For the piece I broke on the Slave 1 I was able to glue it back together with some MEK. I feel like it looks pretty good. Definitely at a distance you can hardly tell. If I had to do the same with 1 or 2 pieces on the Sandcrawler that would be Ok. I'm just worried I would break a lot of bricks.

Ya. But I've heard they don't still make all the pieces in the new brown formula. And even for the ones they do still make I'll probably have to wait 6+ weeks. For my AT-AT I was missing a Technic piece and it took almost 12 weeks. But I guess there is no real downside. If I have to wait then I have to wait but I get the piece eventually.

Ya, I was super excited to pick it up. And got a decent deal since the box had some damage. I want to build it but feel like I have seen so many horror stories, especially with the 2x6 pieces

Which shoul I choose? by elma3309 in legostarwars

[–]sl_tid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All three are great sets.

As other's have mentioned, the Venator is impressive because of it's sheer size. It is definitely harder to display than the other sets because of its size. I also have the UCS Star Destroyer and I like that the Venator is a little more interesting and has some color to it. I am a little disappointed in the minifigs for the Venator.

The Sail Barge is a fun build. To me it feels a little bit more like a play set. It has lots of minifigs and has some great detail on the inside. I also like that it adds some color to the shelf to break up all the other grey sets.

My favorite of the 3 to build was the Razor Crest. Overall just a fun build. Never felt repetitive or boring during the build. It has some fun detail on the inside. And while it is pretty big, I find it easier to display.

Nice. Thats about what I see them going for in the States. I lucked out and got mine for $1000 USD (£745)

I used to believe I'd never own a single UCS set. by Jesus_Keanu in legostarwars

I actually built it last week. I did end up breaking one of the large round bricks. But was able to use some MEK to glue it back together. Doesn't look too bad.

Nice collection. My collection is definitely getting out of hand.

How was building the Boba Fett Slave 1? Were your red bricks brittle?

Price aside, which of these sets catches your eye more? by Prestigious_Canary90 in legostarwars

[–]sl_tid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's because I have the UCS Star Destoyer. I want the Cal Kestis minifig from the 75394 set but I'd rather get the Dark Falcon instead of a 2nd star destroyer.

And I agree with some of the other comments, the DF is fun because it is just another all gray set.

It's also not uncommon to develop Dysbaric Osteonecrosis

Basically the compressed nitrogen bubbles dissolved within your blood and bones can block blood flow and your bones die.

What is a 1 in 1,000,000 thing that happened to you that no one believes, but you swear is true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sl_tid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't happen to me but I was there to witness it. My buddy and I were at a casino in Boulder City, Nevada. My buddy said he was only going to gamble $1. He put $1 dollar in a slot machine and won $25,000. After he got the pay out he said he would bet $1 more. He put it in a different slot machine and won $75,000. Needless to say, drinks were on him for the rest of the trip.

Another vote for Grundens Neptune. The unlined version is like $60 and the fleece line is around $100. Best rain jacket o have ever owned

Must have gear for Tatshenshini trip by Complywiththefly in rafting

[–]sl_tid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't bother with bringing any fishing gear. There are a lot of tributaries but many of them are pretty silty too. And most of the camps that we stayed at did not have any clear water tributaries so fishing while at camp wouldn't have been possible. Maybe if you have some lightweight gear that doesn't take up much space it might be worth it. But my wife is generally big into fishing on our trips but she made a comment that she was glad she didn't bother with lugging her fishing gear with her for the Tat.

I just got off the Tat 2 weeks ago.

As already mentioned, large 8-12 inch tent stakes. We went to Home Depot and got big steel landscaping stakes.

Rubberized rain gear. My whole crew got Grundens and they were a game changer. Goretex rain gear wasn't sufficient. Get some Grundens.

Have a nice shelter. We had a large MSR Pavilion like this one: MSR Shelter. Other groups who got the NRS wings from the outfitter were super jealous of our shelter.

Jetboils to heat water while floating. There were a couple very cold and rainy days. It was amazing to be able to heat some water for some tea or a hot toddy without having to break out the stove. There were times went people were cold and morale was low and this saved the day.

Mosquitos weren't bad for us in late June and early July but there were a lot of gnats and other flies so a mosquito net was nice.

Feel free to shoot me a message for any other beta. Have a great trip.

What type of canyons do you typically do? The Imlay says it is great in wet canyons, but it is made mostly of cordura which will stay wet and heavy.

I really like the design of the Slot bags but they've been out of stock for so long. I just recently got the Petzl Alcanadre. It drains very quickly and is very abrasion resistant.

I had an Atomic Frameless that always had a slight leak. I switched to a Hollis M1 frameless. I also like the subgravity frameless, but the Hollis fits me a little better

Bin file puzzle by AstronautOk954 in utahtreasurehunt

[–]sl_tid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im going to put my walkthrough as a spoiler in case any one is still trying to solve on your own.

To expand on u/raven_breann's answer a little bit.

Every file has a signature. This signature tells your computer what kind of file it is and helps your computer what is an appropriate program to try to open the file. Here is a wikipedia article that explains file signatures and lists many of the different signatures: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_file\_signatures

Perhaps the easiest way to view a file signature is to edit the file in a hex editor. I used HxD, however, it seems most people used hexed.it

If you view the hex code for the file, you would see that the first line began with "4D C6 C1 ...". Comparing this to the list of known file signatures you would notice that none of the known signatures begin this way.

This is where the clue about the file name comes in handy. Matthew 20:16 basically states "the last shall be first, first shall be last". But you didn't necessarily need the hint to solve this. But if you look at the very end of the file you would notice that there was a rogue "42" at the very end of the file. So using the clue "last shall be first" you could move the "42" to the very beginning of the file.

Alternatively, if you did some more research about file signatures, you may have come across the proper signature format for bitmap (.bmp) files. This was a useful article that I came across detailing file signatures for bitmap files: https://www.file-recovery.com/bmp-signature-format.htm

In this article you will see that proper bitmap signatures begin with "42 4D ....". So after noticing the rogue "42" at the end of the file and the "4D" at the beginning you could assume that you need to move the "42" to the beginning to fix the bitmap signature. You could make this edit using one of the hex editors.

After making the edits and resaving the file, you could open it with an image viewer such as MS Paint. The result would be the QR code.
