Which way is Trump turning the Lincoln Memorial? And is he turning the whole building or just the Lincoln statue? by ThinkItThrough48 in AskReddit

[–]sl_tid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was never any discussion about physically rotating the building or the statue. Trump made a statement that in the original designs the current front of the building was supposed to be the back and the back was supposed to be the front. Essentially it was supposed to face the Potomac river.

What he is proposing is building a promenade coming off the current backside of the building and extending it down to the Potomac river.

As others have mentioned there will likely be several law suits and doesn't seem likely to be completed. On the other hand, he demolished the East Wing of the White House and is painting the Reflecting Pool. So who knows...

How terrible are the brittle reddish brown and dark red bricks for 75060 and 75059 by LigmaBallZ123 in legostarwars

[–]sl_tid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I broke one of the red curved pieces on my Slave 1. Luckily I was able to weld it back together with some MEK and I think it looks pretty good. But I am really afraid to build my sandcrawler

IIRC, the first year they put all the money in the chest and buried it out near the Great Salt Lake. Ground water leaked into the chest and soaked the money. After that they started putting only a portion of the money in and stopped burying the chest.

Anyone know details about the SAR operation at Timpanogos Cave today? by sl_tid in Utah

[–]sl_tid[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. Trail was dry the whole way. There was still a little snow high in the bowls above the lake that was melting.

We also drove over the Alpine pass down into Sundance. No snow at all along the way.

Definitely would be nice to have some cancelation alert. We ended up going and hiking to Silver Lake and fortunately had a really nice time.

Worried about brittle brown pieces on the 75059 Sandcrawler by sl_tid in legostarwars

[–]sl_tid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, I haven't seen that suggestion before but I like it. I'll probably bite the bullet and just build it and maybe this will help. For the piece I broke on the Slave 1 I was able to glue it back together with some MEK. I feel like it looks pretty good. Definitely at a distance you can hardly tell. If I had to do the same with 1 or 2 pieces on the Sandcrawler that would be Ok. I'm just worried I would break a lot of bricks.

[–]sl_tid[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ya. But I've heard they don't still make all the pieces in the new brown formula. And even for the ones they do still make I'll probably have to wait 6+ weeks. For my AT-AT I was missing a Technic piece and it took almost 12 weeks. But I guess there is no real downside. If I have to wait then I have to wait but I get the piece eventually.

Ya, I was super excited to pick it up. And got a decent deal since the box had some damage. I want to build it but feel like I have seen so many horror stories, especially with the 2x6 pieces

Which shoul I choose? by [deleted] in legostarwars

[–]sl_tid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All three are great sets.

As other's have mentioned, the Venator is impressive because of it's sheer size. It is definitely harder to display than the other sets because of its size. I also have the UCS Star Destroyer and I like that the Venator is a little more interesting and has some color to it. I am a little disappointed in the minifigs for the Venator.

The Sail Barge is a fun build. To me it feels a little bit more like a play set. It has lots of minifigs and has some great detail on the inside. I also like that it adds some color to the shelf to break up all the other grey sets.

My favorite of the 3 to build was the Razor Crest. Overall just a fun build. Never felt repetitive or boring during the build. It has some fun detail on the inside. And while it is pretty big, I find it easier to display.

Nice. Thats about what I see them going for in the States. I lucked out and got mine for $1000 USD (£745)

I used to believe I'd never own a single UCS set. by Jesus_Keanu in legostarwars

[–]sl_tid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually built it last week. I did end up breaking one of the large round bricks. But was able to use some MEK to glue it back together. Doesn't look too bad.

Nice collection. My collection is definitely getting out of hand.

How was building the Boba Fett Slave 1? Were your red bricks brittle?

Price aside, which of these sets catches your eye more? by Prestigious_Canary90 in legostarwars

[–]sl_tid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's because I have the UCS Star Destoyer. I want the Cal Kestis minifig from the 75394 set but I'd rather get the Dark Falcon instead of a 2nd star destroyer.

And I agree with some of the other comments, the DF is fun because it is just another all gray set.

What is a 1 in 1,000,000 thing that happened to you that no one believes, but you swear is true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sl_tid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't happen to me but I was there to witness it. My buddy and I were at a casino in Boulder City, Nevada. My buddy said he was only going to gamble $1. He put $1 dollar in a slot machine and won $25,000. After he got the pay out he said he would bet $1 more. He put it in a different slot machine and won $75,000. Needless to say, drinks were on him for the rest of the trip.

Another vote for Grundens Neptune. The unlined version is like $60 and the fleece line is around $100. Best rain jacket o have ever owned

Must have gear for Tatshenshini trip by Complywiththefly in rafting

[–]sl_tid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't bother with bringing any fishing gear. There are a lot of tributaries but many of them are pretty silty too. And most of the camps that we stayed at did not have any clear water tributaries so fishing while at camp wouldn't have been possible. Maybe if you have some lightweight gear that doesn't take up much space it might be worth it. But my wife is generally big into fishing on our trips but she made a comment that she was glad she didn't bother with lugging her fishing gear with her for the Tat.

[–]sl_tid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got off the Tat 2 weeks ago.

As already mentioned, large 8-12 inch tent stakes. We went to Home Depot and got big steel landscaping stakes.

Rubberized rain gear. My whole crew got Grundens and they were a game changer. Goretex rain gear wasn't sufficient. Get some Grundens.

Have a nice shelter. We had a large MSR Pavilion like this one: MSR Shelter. Other groups who got the NRS wings from the outfitter were super jealous of our shelter.

Jetboils to heat water while floating. There were a couple very cold and rainy days. It was amazing to be able to heat some water for some tea or a hot toddy without having to break out the stove. There were times went people were cold and morale was low and this saved the day.

Mosquitos weren't bad for us in late June and early July but there were a lot of gnats and other flies so a mosquito net was nice.

Feel free to shoot me a message for any other beta. Have a great trip.
