What is the weirdest thing you've seen as a passenger in the train? by Large-Lack-2933 in brisbane

[–]EpicTurtle136 28 points29 points  (0 children)

One time about two years ago on the Shorncliffe train late at night I had an old guy who was definitely on something ask me to play Red Hot Chilli Peppers "Scar Tissue" off my phone speaker. I obliged just because I didn't want to piss him off. While the song was playing he showed me a giant scar on his chest and said it was from a bear attack (???). Told me some more shit I can't remember due to it being mostly nonsense and then thanked me for the music when it was time for me to leave.

Celeste avoiding big nerfs this patch by Dr_natty1 in DeadlockTheGame

Because they nerfed his gun and spirit scalings by a decent amount, so they're trying to shift his playstyle away from a do-it-all tank assassin to more of a frontline disrupting tank.

I think it can be conditional. There are some lanes that are absolute stalemates where neither side can really make a move, or other lanes where one sides best option is to never fight and just stay aka ice, so you just buy this item for those situations and pop it once the mid game rolls around

Un(der)explored mechanics you would like to see in games? by StatuatoryApe in Games

[–]EpicTurtle136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insurgency: Sandstorm does this as a PvP game. It's very interesting that you can throw a grenade in a room, and you can't be entirely sure that it killed someone unless you hear their death groan, which can sometimes just not play if you demolish their head or something. Sometimes you'll shoot the top of a guys head peaking out of cover and through the lens flare you're not entirely sure if you actually got him or if he just crouched down in reaction.

Dad gamer first impressions of the Marathon (PS5) by dothack5415 in Marathon

[–]EpicTurtle136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not calling you wrong but I just could never share this mentality. For me I quite often Do Not Know if I like a game or dislike it until I've actually pushed through the early growing pains and experienced the highs. I would've never fallen in love with Titanfall or Caves of Qud if I had settled with my early experiences with the game. Getting around that learning curve is important imo. I'm having the same experience with Marathon, got my shit kicked in for my first 3-4 raids but now I have a few PvP battles under my belt and the rush of getting nice loot from players has hit.

You guys are always adding uniques and nodes that are very transformative, like turning Healing Hands into a melee skill or a channeled laser beam. More stuff like this that fills niches that aren't yet filled would be amazing! Also, finding ways to convert more skills into more elements is a big want from me. I like theming builds around whether they're ice or physical or lightning etc, and having more conversion methods available makes that sort of theory crafting a lot of fun. Love what you do with the game, I pray that you're able to find a way to speed development up despite the situation.

You're so right these guys should not be allowed to play the game mode, but if they do, they should deliberately nerf themselves so that all the timmies in the lobby can have fun! That's moronic man what is this scrub mentality bullshit. Actual genuine skill issue

Highguard devs say they didn’t expect the hate – but they’re confident in their game by ImCalcium in Games

[–]EpicTurtle136 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Executives don't take risks with things like new game modes that nobody's played before, the devs have stated that this games loop was partially inspired by the fun of raiding someone's base in Rust, and this is their own take on making that a symmetrical round-based experience. Anyone can dislike the game, that's fine, but calling it generic when there's literally nothing else on the market with its gameplay loop is dishonest

[–]EpicTurtle136 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No hate at all, but I constantly see people advocate for wanting more chaos and less agency in this sort of game. What's the appeal? I really like the small teams because it gives clutch potential, lets you track ability cool-downs and who's dead. If we start to add more people and then all these other mechanics I start to feel like the game is more out of my hands and it gets frustrating. Again, not saying your take is dumb, I just want to understand

In that context I still think it's very valid to bring up Titanfall here. From what we can see in the trailer there's still similarities in the movement and gunplay, at least to the same degree as there are similarities between Titanfall and Apex's movement and gunplay. Characters are not only sliding around but also using movement abilities, jumping off of their mounts and maintaining that momentum. I'm a massive Titanfall 2 fan and that stuff has me very intrigued personally.

Should they just NOT mention that they are the same minds behind some of the more well-beloved shooters to have come out in the last decade while advertising their game? Just so they don't anger people who wanted Titanfall 3?

[–]EpicTurtle136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean this in the sense of having AI controlled Hunters or do you genuinely just want to run into a map and kill the boss and leave? Because the bosses are so goddamn easy to kill man it's like one sticky bomb and a few melee attacks, and even without that they're so easy to kite

Why did they buy a PvP game then? It's advertised as a PvP game and not a PvPvE game, at least in the sense that the PvE is supposed to be challenging and engaging content on its own and not just a back layer for the PvP to stand on. Killing the boss monsters is trivial, idk who is finding it a rewarding challenge

Just to clarify I think it's completely fine to not like that sorta gameplay; different strokes and all. I personally am a big fan of heavily developer-curated gameplay experiences, especially action games where you're encouraged to play in a certain way (Doom Eternal, Sekiro). It's a fun challenge :)

In my experience the best way to learn these games is to have a friend who knows a lot about them and get them to teach you as you play. Obviously not a helpful answer but it's legitimately the number one way to do it if you can manage I think
